how to build a gothic gauntlet by David J kite net armor templates calm as you can see this is pretty close to a gothic design I made a little bit easier than a typical fluted design of gauntlets from that era but this is a lot of fun to build and really as a cool design and honestly it was pretty easy as far as gone let's go so this is one of the easier builds guys even though it looks a lot more complicated so grab your hammers let's get started [Music] get your template by clicking under the video or in the video are going directly to armor templates comm or all of my templates are available while you're there you can click in the top corner tools and materials where you can open my Amazon store on all the tools you see in this video in other videos are right here for you to buy here's all your parts cut out this is 20 gauge steel and brass a lot of the parts look very similar so make sure to keep track of them by labeling them it's good to sand the parts while you well you have them flat it makes a lot easier as you can see I've got some score marks on the back side not the front side but the backside of these pieces and using a masonry chisel and a hammer and some rubber we're going to make some creases in these parts as you can see right here very simple to do now I've got a little piece of steel in a vise and I'm going to turn the pieces over and I'm going to round them from the other side so it gives it sort of a scalloped look this is to simulate fluting which is a lot more complicated to make but this looks pretty good and it's a lot easier to do finish finish making all the parts they have to fit obviously on your hand and all of the parts have to fit together so keep that in mind as you're building here I'm rounding the end of the knuckle plate built the same way but just hammering the ends to make it a little bit more interesting to look at at the end I get a lot of questions on my finger jig this is a one inch inside diameter pipe that I've cut in half and put in a piece of wood and root it in this is a 3/4 inch pipe that's really all it is it's not not that hard to find the stuff in the make-your-own and I'm going to put the pieces in put the put the pipe on top and whack it with a hammer and you'll see that it doesn't quite give you a perfect curve so you're gonna take the piece back out move it a bit and finish by finishing off the sides like that and go ahead and build all the finger pieces just like this including the brass knuckle pieces now the ends I ended up rounding over which makes it look a lot more professional a lot more just totally finished like a piece of art as you can see the lone left is unfinished on the right is rounded much better not hard to do either very easy these pieces you can see they're different it doesn't matter which way you you put them just make sure they're going in all the same direction for all your pieces here I've got a piece of leather inside the one of the finger pieces and I'm going to pop a hole here and put a roofing nail through cut it off and then hammer this down and make sure you leave a little bit of space between the parts because if you don't you won't be able to bend your fingers very well and as you can see we're doing the same thing with the end pieces or the knuckle pieces and I'm putting it on the glove and I'm marking where that end hole is and both ends actually for these these strips of leather with the finger plates on them will be riveted to the glove now we're only going to rivet the tips for now we're not going to rivet to the rest of the glove until were a little further along put something up inside the glove see don't hurt the leather and rivet the ends of all the fingers on now line up and place nails through the glove and through the leather here and do the same thing now this little if you if you find that the the fingers are pulling away from the glove some you can add an additional nail there in the middle like I did on the thumb here I'm popping holes for the little heart designs a little silly actually but this is Gothic styling so it is what it is and to get those hearts cut out I used a jeweler saw also found in my Amazon store there was actually a lot easier than I thought so very very money very well spent now I'm filing the ends to give a little bit better appearance you can see the top ones not done in the bottom his bottom looks better now I'm using a chisel of some kind I found in the garage and I'm just scoring the vambrace section and I'm making it so that I'm hitting it harder as I'm closer to the wrist and as you get further away and hitting less and less and it ends up kind of blending that the transition very well now I'm just rounding the inside of these scallops and I have to after i push on this I obviously make some score marks and have to sand those away but I think it worked really well now it's shaped so we'll have to round it to the forearm you can see I'm doing that here on a piece of exhaust pipe looking good looking good now obviously the brass accents that we've cut out don't fit exactly because they're flat so we have to round them a bit to get them to fit the piece now I'm using copper rod to make my own rivets putting them through the holes only do one hole at a time though because you're never getting to line up otherwise it was actually a mistake I made with the with the hand pieces do not pop the holes until you have completed the parts we have all the parts riveted on but we're gonna leave these two holes open because we're going to attach a strap as you can see here very simple simple design now for some of the parts I decided to use these leather rivets these are in my Amazon store as well and just put these together and then hammer it downs in the back and you got already-made rivets now this hole here and the one the other side that corresponds those are going to be riveted through the glove on both sides and then also these holes here are going to be riveted into the glove to hold it to the glove both sides and that's really it guys there's nothing to it I mean it takes a lot up takes a while to to get the pieces built but the actual shaping is no time at all and really it I mean look how awesome it looks this is probably my favorite gauntlet maybe the Infinity Gauntlet but my favorite of my own designs so looks great and you guys are gonna have a ball building it it's a lot easier than it looks [Music] make sure to check out all the other stuff I've built all of this stuff can be found on my youtube channel and on the
