in this video we are going to learn how to build a DIY free fly glider out of foam board stick along till the end to learn how to build this buttery smooth glider this aircraft will be made by using a styrofoam sheet so this is a Dollar Tree foam board which is almost half a centimeters thick and I'm just going to start off by taking my pen and drying out the shape of the fuselage I just came out of this design with the top of my head so I'll still share this design in the planner so be sure to check that out save your mind once you cut that out you want to trace that same design on another piece of Styrofoam so you end up with two identical pieces of the fuselage to reinforce the body I'm gonna use this barbecue stick trim out the little end and this barbecue stick is going to lay in between the two bodies and this is just going to add some rigidity to the body of this aircraft [Music] using some hot glue I'm going to attach this barbecue stick and also attach the two pieces together [Music] to smooth it off the curves you can use a sandpaper block I think this is a good step because you need to ensure this plane is well aerodynamic in the air once we're done with the fuselage let's jump into the wings again the dimensions will be provided in the planner so be sure to check that out but essentially I'm just drawing out some triangles from the edge of this Center piece of the wing and it looks a lot more like a diamond it's not really a diamond but you get my idea we're gonna apply that same technique to the side plates as well These Wings Are pretty long gliders tend to have longer Wings because that's what reduces uh the drag well the thin Wings reduce the drag but longer Wings allow your aircraft to be a lot higher in the air [Music] to perform our aerodynamical shape the airfoil we're going to perform a bevel cut on the Leading Edge of the wing do the same for the side plates as well as the center section of the wing as well do not neglect the step because we want to have an airfoil shape perform a bevel cut to the side plate and this is going to allow you to stick it to the center piece of the wing in an angle this is known as the dihedral [Music] let's now attach the wing to the fuselage so notice that this plane has a little angle of attack of almost five to seven degrees this angle of attack will help your plane establish a bit of lift in the air you will notice in the planner that the area where the wing sits on the fuselage it has a bit of an upward angle let's work on the tail so this little rectangular piece is going to be the horizontal stabilizer and essentially we're going to do the same thing that we did with the side plates so uh just cutting out that little triangles from the Leading Edge just having a little Aesthetics from this [Music] we want to stick the horizontal stabilizer on top of the vertical stabilizer [Music] be sure to also perform that little airfoil design on the tail as well [Music] so the Dollar Tree styrofoam has a paper lamination and our goal is to stick the two pieces together and not have the paper in between so rather than sticking that vertical stabilizer to the paper we want to eliminate that paper lamination only in that little section [Music] I'm going to apply this little electric tape uh it's it serves two purposes so first of all it looks pretty dope I definitely encourage you to do that but second of all it actually provides some strength on the Leading Edge so I guarantee you will crash your glider multiple times in several areas of the house or even Outdoors so do not neglect the stuff [Music] it is crucial to have a perpendicular shape so just have good inspection and with that you're ready to stick the tail on the fuselage oh and also apply these decals to the Leading Edge of the Wings as well because these are the most vulnerable to crash [Music] our airplane is almost complete uh just need to add some nose weight so I chose these uh metal washers you can choose a coin or anything uh but basically I'm just doubling up these metal washers and attaching two on either side of the nose [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music]
