thank you [Music] hey everybody I'm Nick with drain my lawn and today I'm going to show you two different ways to make clean out clean outs for your downspouts now these clean out connectors are going to be a way for your uh for you to connect your downspouts to a corrugated drain system now that could be double wall or single wall corrugated I'll have double wall in my demonstration because that's what we recommend we use on our installations you could also even have adaptions make this an adaption to to PVC so obviously you would use the PVC so first we're going to start with the corrugated side of things um what you'll need to make a downspout connector is you'll need a y a 90 degree elbow the downspout connection this is actually where your uh where the downspout goes into a great full four inch grate and P ee of corrugated pipe single wall is what we recommend for this because it's easy and it has um it clicks very easy way on on the outside on the inside and these act as your like Connections in between so what you do is you're going to take your y start with your y here and you're going to have your um you have your your PVC or sorry your downspout connector right here and this is going to as you see it just sits in there very Loosely this is what your extra pipe is for now if your downspout's really high for some reason then you can make this a longer thing but this is going to essentially function just to lock in there to offer a connection point foreign and there you go and so this is what the Top's going to look like this is going to connect to your downspout and then this is going to go in uh down into the ground so um this is your this is your actual clean out right here then this is how we're going to connect it to your drain system you have the Y and the uh the um I'm sorry the Y and the 90 degree angle and we do the same thing like we did on the top we're going to take it we're going to put this little piece of pipe inside of it like that just pop the other end on you can make this a little shorter if you have the space for it so I use six corrugations uh as my measure so I don't cut it short you see I only have one corrugation in the middle you can go five and this is now your uh PVC or no your corrugated cleanup this connects to your downspout this is your clean out area access for cleaning you know washing cleaning taking out debris and this connects directly to your corrugated pipe you take the little uh four inch grate pop it in there and that just sits in there stopping things from coming in getting out uh that is going to it's not going to be it's all going to be kind of hidden from sight you see it's not the cleanest visual look but uh this sits up against the house pointing out of sight and then this can be turned any direction and then with your uh with your pipe when you're ready to connect to your system you just take it and pop it on and there you go so this has popped this for for demonstration purposes is sitting here but this little piece has the it clicks onto the corrugations and this is what your system looks like so now we're going to go on to the PVC Method All right so now we're going to use PVC now this is still going to connect to a corrugated system which this will allow for a much cleaner look and has some other functionality this will not leak or be as um as weepy as as a corrugated corrugated clean out and it won't it's just going to look cleaner so even if you have a corrugated system with a single wall corrugated pipe which is fine to use in a lot of situations you're going to have a nice clean look with a PVC connector at the top so like with this this is not watertight the only way to make this somewhat watertight is to seal this with tape it's possible it's kind of difficult though once you have everything set up you have to like take it back out and you have to really wrap it really hard and make sure it doesn't move and then if you got it all wrong you have to take off the type the the tape this I'm going to show you there's a different method so we have our this is the NDS like the thin PVC this is not schedule 40. you don't need schedule 40 this is just mainly for function of moving water and having a clean out so they're why have our downspout connection see here this is going to be similar we're going to need a piece of pipe to connect into in between these two to kind of make them work we also then we'll have our same have our same four inch grate for our clean out I'll have a uh nine uh or sorry a 90 degree angle as you can see this has one section uh so one female side on this side and one male side that's an important thing it stops your connections it reduces the amount of connections you have to make and makes it shorter smaller profile makes it easier to install so and then oh lastly we have a PVC to corrugated adapter this is important this is an important piece to the whole puzzle you can do this a number of ways but this one piece makes it very easy so if you find this uh this is going to be your friend in this situation so you can get them at box stores and things so what we're going to do is something called this is what we use with our double wall corrugated it's a um this is a pipe sealant that's a little brush it's gray doesn't look very pretty the reason has different color than white typically so you can see it so what we're going to do first so we're just going to we're gonna coat the inside or the outside of this all the way around here and this is just going to act as a so X is two things X is a lubricant and a sealer but does not Harden so it doesn't become solid and dropping some here does not become solid and it could become it can come off later on so that's that's a real important feature we're not P we're not gluing this together so we sit this in here and push it in and it sets in there pretty well now you have a little bit of Play It's it moves better than if you didn't have this stuff on it it's still tough because it's it's tight but you can turn it so this is I'm going to leave this here for right now you can clean up any extra at the end so you have our connection here you see it's already kind of smaller so this is where right here where we're going to need our um we are going to need our downspout connection uh to connect to our y here and so this is where we're going to use our little piece of a little piece of pipe for this little piece of pipe is our single it's a it's the skinny PVC the drainage PVC that you see at the store and we're going to do this on both sides we're going to go we're gonna just get this nice and goopy on both sides and the reason we do this rather than glue is so you can change it down the road if you mess up and then also if you ever need to take it apart you can sit that right in there just like that okay and then I'm going to do the same on this side so you can connect this um you can you can make this without you when you're like like right now I can use this on in the field later so I'm putting this together and the guys are going to be able to use this as is so you can take your time put it in a uh have it put together in a nice comfortable spot like I'm doing right now and then use it later so there we go all right as you see it's a little bit more a little bit bigger of a gap than I could have had a smaller piece of that PVC there um but here we go we got our connection and then so this will go to our this is a large uh downspout connection and then we're just going to take this and this is what you'll see when you're all said and done when everything's and everything's finished I'm going to turn this real quick well instead is gonna be a lot easier I didn't put enough of the uh of the uh the sealant on it but when you have this connection have it all together this is going to connect right to your corrugated system with this connection so this slides right in with the same kind of the same ease I'm just gonna so you can use the the the sealant um or you like right now for these purposes I'm just going to stick this in here and then this connects to your corrugated pipe so no matter what type you have this is double wall corrugated it's going to pop right in and your system is going to run water and you're not going to have any place for leaks on this so it's not pressurized so you don't have to worry about that and if you ever have to clean this up take this clean this out check for clogs run water through the system you have it right here these are your two ways PVC and corrugated we're actually switching to PVC um as we work through our corrugated stock because the corrugated is easy because it's all connected it's all the same type of material but what we've found is that this has a much better look to it and we just think it's going to make our customers happier so we're going to go with this they're cost similar in price so maybe this is a little bit more expensive especially if you're going to be doing it yourself you'll need to buy the sealant which will be about ten dollars and you only take a little bit more time and care but and then you'll need to buy that single that little skinny four inch PVC and you'll be good to go so this has been helpful subscribe let us know leave a comment uh check us out at drainmylawn.com if you're in
