[Music] ed here with heritage garage door today we're going to talk about lubrication for your garage door and how to lubricate your door today we have four different lubrications uh that we're going to talk about the first one is amar a manufactured lubricant that we use frequently these are all uh the first three of these are a silicone-based lubricant uh the very end one being wd-40 where we're not really going to recommend that one but we have it here because it's a very common lubricant that people go to to lubricate their garage doors and i would recommend it so again the amar brand uh silicone base the blaster garage door silicone based and the three-in-one garage door lube which is actually made by wd-40 each one of these are going to do a really good job they're very similar in their their chemicals and materials and you can't go wrong with either one of them so let's go over to the garage door and see what we're going to do okay so we're now we have a subject door this one is a wooden garage door looks like more like a single car garage but double car single car wide narrow doesn't matter they're going to have the similar components um these right here are the hinges what we call the hinges and they're spread out all over the door uh the end hinges have a roller and a roller stem in it of course you've got your garage door cables which are back here on each side there's two go down to the bottom fixture we have our drums that we're going to lubricate as well and most importantly our torsion spring so we're going to start with the lubricating the hinges and today we picked the three-in-one garage door lubricant like i said like i mentioned earlier we can use any one of those three products and when we lubricate the hinge on all these hinges we want to find the movement part of the hinge and it's going to be right in here it doesn't make sense to lubricate the hinge up here we want to find the part where it moves so it's going to be right in here right in here and what you want to do is you'll want to spray those pin points on each hinge and get yourself a rag or a paper towel to wipe this up and you'll go through all the hinges and what we want to do here on the end rollers is we want we want to get the pivot areas and we want to get the hinge sleeve where the roller stem goes into that's going to help it go out back and forth much easier keep your door a lot quieter you don't want to lubricate although some people say to lubricate the roller itself i do not like to lubricate the roller what it does in my experience is it attracts dirt and grime in this roller track and it causes problems down the road okay while you're lubricating these pivot areas of the hinge it wouldn't be a bad idea this is a roller and this is the roller stem as you can see there's a different lubricant on the roller stem it's a grease what we want to use there is a lithium grease it's in some cases it's a little difficult to get the whole stem but get as much as you can with a lithium based grease so i would leave the roller itself the wheel alone so we've got the hinges the center hinges the intermediate hinges the end hinges the roller stem areas what we're going to want to do here is we're going to climb up here shortly on a ladder and we're going to get the end drums and the spring itself so let's go ahead and get up on the one okay now i'm up on the ladder here with my garage door lubricant and what we're going to do is we're going to start from one side and work our way down to the other side so we're going to start off with the drum we're going to get a fair amount of lubricant so when that door goes up it's going to get some lubricant on the the cable itself then we're going to go into this spring now this is a torsion spring there's two torsion springs bolted together um we're going to start with a little lubricant and a cloth underneath it to catch it as this could be a little messy mind you um and you may want to uh think about making sure you get it all wiped up because it could drip on your car or your floor we're going to start at the top let it work it's let gravity pull it down through the spring i'm going to wipe off the bottom and wipe off the top of the door and try it one more time now what i'll do after i do both sides uh when i lubricate both springs and the other drum is i'll actually function the door up and down three or four times just to get it working its way in and then i'll do a final wipe so we're done with this side we're gonna go ahead and go to the other side okay now that we're done with this side uh we're gonna come down the ladder and then like i said earlier we're gonna run the door three or four times up and down let that lubricant sink in and then wipe it off again for one last time okay so we're finished with the lubrication of the door we're just uh making our final wipe down of the door and the springs and we're gonna move on to these three other doors we have in here guys thanks for watching our videos if we can be of any other help give us a call or go to our website heritagedoor.com [Music] you
