How to Install Window Casing and Interior Trim

[Music] we had jam extensions on this window prior from the manufacturer but this is a this wall is a little thicker um so we remove those jam extensions and we're going to make our own once I have my reveals marked out on the side of my window frame on here I take my speed square and a stick Rule and I stick my Square against my reveal Mark right there and then I account for 4 and 1/4 in of casing a/4 inch reveal on the jam extension and then 3/4 is our overhang for the stool on there and I make my pencil Mark there so that comes out to 5 and a qu off my reveal I do the same thing on this side make a crow foot right there and then block right here right on my cros foot just tack to the wall and then I can just pull my tape right across here so our overall stool length is 73 in I like to remove this block and then I attack on the other side of my mark here and all that does it gives me just a point where I can then once I have my stool made up there that way it's always in the right spot just butted right up against that block there then to determine the depth of my notch on these horns right here I measure against the window frame to the blue board and that comes out to about 4 and a/4 and it's pretty consistent all the way along here so then what I need to do was since we want an inch and a half projection where our horn sits against the blue board to through the bull nose we want an inch and a half I stuck my speed square on here I marked an inch and a half I gave it an e/ inch for scribe depth and then from that point go four and A4 so 1 2 3 four and a quarter and then I gave that another eighth of scribe depth so the overall depth of this Dimension right here is four and 38 I marked out for my notches cut them again being an E8 in big set it in there double checked and made sure that all these projections should have been about an inch and 5/8 with that extra scribe on there then I take my scribes set it the biggest Gap I have against this this horn right here against our stool against the window or this point here and my biggest Gap ended up being right about here and it was again about an eighth of an inch scrib that all along here here here and here use the table saw and my uh block plane and then it fits perfectly now slot it in again against my block there and what I like to do is just mark right on my reveals right here right on these reveal marks off the front face I Square them across this marks where my jam extensions are going to go then once I make up my gam extensions again those are just ripped to four and a qu all the way around cuz that's the depth from our finish wall into the window it varies a little bit but iuse usually go with the highest number that way you won't have a gap between your jam extension and your window frame there but once I have those marked on my stool I come over I take my jam extension head lay it right on there and find a good distance somewhat arbitrary like how much overhang you just want at least 3/4 of an inch here and over here in between your reveal line and the end of your jam extension head so just Mark that right on here same with this one then I Square these across so I've got my head Jam extension and my legs use a little bit of yellow glue so then I line this reveal mark up exactly on my head there tack it with a brad same on this side so I use the Brads to kind of set it where it is and then I follow it up with screws I use the Brads first cuz it's a lot easier than trying to hold a board pre-drill it and then add a [Music] screw so there's one side set there come over to this side now want a double window like this it can be a little tricky cuz this is going everywhere like that the smart thing to do is take a measurement right here 5 and 5/8 in between my extension legs just cut a piece of scrap tack that on the head lining up each one and that squares it up you've got a little glue squeeze out now is the time to clean it up now for a moment of truth we land right on our reveal marks cuz we're headit up against the block all our joints are perfectly Square in every way get this in there pushed up tight against our window frame tack it in next we'll put the casing legs on the head the header on the apron and called her up for [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] I [Music]
