How To Install Seat Guts The Easy Way

yo hey everybody uh so today i got a pretty simple repair that um i'm sure a lot of folks are gonna uh probably say oh what's the point of this anybody knows this how to do this task but anyway we're gonna do today is we got our standard seat rails uh and we got what they call like the seat guts and i see a lot of guys you know struggling to get these things on here so i'm just going to show you a super quick quick and easy way to do it so uh basically these are they're going to be threaded there's a nut and then it's basically a kind of a square shaped shaft in the middle that keeps this from turning so if i pull this all the way off we've got our nut we got this piece here that's kind of uh you know the rail is going to fit right in there get this other side that cradles the rail in there it's kind of a serrated portion there and then a serrated portion here so it's kind of once that's tight it locks together and you can see there's kind of a square shaped hole to keep this from turning so we're going to do is we can leave one side basically on maybe start with it flush one little trick especially on these uh pieces that have lots of basically chrome plated pieces put a little grease there on the threads it's not a whatever a little messy but getting it on there so just just a little bit where the uh you know the nut turns maybe on the face of the nut as well okay so we're gonna do first so that you got this piece here that's where the seat post is going to go and then stop when it comes in contact with that so the seat post is always going to go on these generally i mean you can set it up the other way like this if you want to really push that seat forward but otherwise it's going to go just in this orientation with the whole portion going towards the front of the saddle if i just have it turned upside down here we're going to do is scoop that in let's go ahead and just back this guy all the way off again towards flush okay so we got this we can kind of flip it around so we're going to take this piece lay it on the rails and then we're going to just slide it up it goes in just like so put that piece on and then tighten her up put it on the bike you know we'll find out more you know where we want this to be level or where your preferred uh seat angle and then just you'll evenly tighten these guys down from there uh if you're going to take one of these off for example you know i'll see people you know uh you know just kind of a reverse process you know basically take one nut off slide that piece off push the shaft in just rotate that out and it'll come right off so yeah uh if you've never messed with this kind of uh seat guts usually you'll see these on old vintage uh bmx bikes uh you know old anything older than the 80s 70s and 80s and older than that or this is a pretty common setup on your basic mid-range bikes uh so yeah anyway that's gonna do it for this video uh please consider subscribing to my channel and we will see you guys real soon thanks for watching
