[Music] i'm juliette color and welcome to my channel hi guys welcome back i am juliette colora if you are new and we are going to be talking about and working on hooping some hats today and getting some really good sew outs on some hats and um what i'm talking about pretty specifically is getting things hooped correctly so that you do not have issues with the design shifting here and you get better sell out on these than this we're going to be dealing with all the issues with the lettering not looking well and um just pour quality of stitch out on the hat and things shifting this design even shifted over here so i'm going to talk about all of this today so that we can get good sellouts on these richardson 112s that everybody seems to want to do so got my hoop ready the first thing that we need to do is have the proper size of backing for sewing on hats whether you're stitching on these richardson 112s which are structured hats on structured hats it doesn't matter mesh no mesh this backing here and i took this from a client specifically because this is how they're hooping it the backing is not even big enough to cover the front two panels so this is going to allow the hat to shift this is the only problem with this hat so this other one here with this like horse thing shifted same thing not enough backing the proper amount of backing that you need to get good stitch outs on these wide angle cap drivers is a 19 inch piece my ruler is 18 inches so i'm just going to go a little longer than my ruler here all right i have my 19 inch piece a little bit bigger have the proper size backing we're going to keep our ruler around because we're going to need that later so the first thing i'm going to do is our gauge has the ability to rotate and so i'm going to rotate it around and i'm going to loosen up my strap first thing i'm going to do is take my backing i'm going to say the first thing probably over and over it's okay all right we're going to put our backing onto our hoop over these stabilizer bars that stick out on our hoop here we want to be over the stabilizer bar and we want to crimp down our backing this backing is just like when you're doing flats your backing needs to go edge to edge this is the edge of our hoop so i'm going to rotate this around so i can get to the other side and a little long it's fine we're going to go up and over the other bar and clip it down i'm gonna come back to the center of the hoop just so that i have a base of where to go my backing is now i'm gonna go all the way around stabilizing the entire hat i'm going to get my hat the first thing you'll do with these that have an arc to them is you're going to flatten this out people are going to do what they want with the bill of the hat later we need it flat to get good embroideries so then i'm going to take my sweat band put it down and around now the bill needs to come all the way to our tab here and rotate to the left if you are going to be sewing on the side of the hat maybe you need a made in the usa tag here or an established with a date here we want to make sure that right now we get this nice and straight so the seam that goes from the bill of your hat around is what we're going to follow with our strap so that we get a nice straight line just on the back side our teeth are going to go down in the groove all the way around to the other side of the hat same thing make sure that my seam is nice and straight take my stage one clip it now this is where we're going to take our ruler again and measure we want to measure from the most stable part of the hat which hat hoop which is the steel bar here out to this part of the hat out here and it could be inches millimeters centimeters it doesn't matter what we really need is a measurement that's the same so i'm just going to measure this one is 1 and an eighth so i'm going to make this side one and an eighth with the matching holding it in place i can lock this down now the next step that we're going to do is rotate to the side either side because i'm already here i just work from the right side you're going to take your clip from the back side and what we're going to do is we're going to pull our seam because we have a little buckle here we want to smooth this out so i'm going to grab my seam and pull making this smooth here flatten out my hat as best i can here without stretching it some of the stretch fit hats you'll have to be careful to kind of find the balance between pulling it tight and not stretching we're going to take our clips and move them to the top fastening the hat to the backing to the stabilizer bar and i'm going to take my second clip and come all the way to the very outside edge of that bar and clip it there so this whole area is stabilized and ready for embroidery not only that the whole hat is now stabilized from here to the other side so over here i'm going to do the same thing i'm going to take my clip from the back side pull this strap nice and flush get my hat nice and smooth whether it's got fabric or mesh here doesn't matter put our clips on the first one and the second one now then this is all nice and stable however the last thing that we need to deal with is any time you're hooping a standard hat like this these hats are built with an arc to it the arc goes high and back down here all of our equipment is a perfect circle so there's a little bit of a gap that's going to be right in the top of the hat here on our equipment and you can see that here see this little bit right here where it moves and bounces this is what we have to control next on these hats so that we get that good sew out this is just the hat is too far away so it's grabbing it and pushing it down so we're going to take our steamer we have a little i have a little handheld steamer because i have space seating there we go nice steamy and i'm gonna warm this hat up going to put my glove on so don't burn my hand and what i want to achieve is getting this hat delay flat against our perfect circles that might be enough yeah now all of that is gone the hat is nice and stable now gonna be a perfect circle and this is gonna stitch very well from here all the way out okay do me a favor go down and click on the subscribe button give a thumbs up to the video if you want to see more absolutely hit the notification maybe it's that way notification button
