what's going on guys it's the bag of tricks here welcome back to another video so in the past I have made videos on how to hit rails but today I thought it would be useful to go over seven common mistakes I see when people are working on learning their rail slides for the first time rail slides can be complicated tricks and there's a lot of small things that if done slightly incorrectly will make them difficult to land so if you're struggling with rail slides I hope this video can help and if it does help you get those rail slides unlocked please leave a like and also be sure to Subs subcribe for more future videos like this one let's hop right into it all right so the most common and most painful mistake I see people making is not getting their weight far enough forward when landing on the rail resulting in a slip out to keep things short when you land on the rail if too much of your weight is on your back foot you're going to slip out so really focus on landing on the rail with slightly more weight on your front foot than your back if you're really struggling with this still check out the video linked in the corner right now which goes over a few good drills to practice this weight distribution tion before even hitting a rail for the first time another very common mistake I see is going too slow into a rail while yes you can make it down rails going very slow it will require a lot more balance and be much more difficult by carrying more speed into the rail it will make staying balance until the end a lot easier think about riding a bike if you ride a bike super slowly it's way more difficult to stay upright than it is if you're riding fast right well the same thing can apply to your skiing rail slides I know it might be a little more scary but take more speed into the rail it's going to help the next mistake I see a lot of times is getting the approach wrong when coming into the rail both the angle you take as well as the amount of Pop you give off the lip are extremely important to get right when sliding rails if you get either wrong you can ruin your rail slide before it even really starts as far as approach angle you don't want to come into the rail angled too much towards the far side but you also don't want to be angled too much towards the close side so you have to find that happy medium let's see an example of both of those [Music] mistakes when you're approaching the rail you don't want to take too much angle into the lip as that will result in you most likely falling off the far side but not enough angle will cause you to slip off to the near side so how do we fix this well a good thing to think about here to help you get this angle right is to try Landing a few feet down the rail from the lip we just talked about going faster into rails and that is going to help with getting the angle right as well by purposefully trying to land further down the rail you're getting your momentum going more paralleled to the rail which is what you want but just because you're Landing further down the rail doesn't mean you want to pop a lot more obviously we want to pop enough to not catch our tips but we also don't want to pop too much causing a violent landing on the rail that can throw off our balance try to get the pop so that when you land on the rail there isn't much impact at all mistake number four has to do with how much rot rot ation you're doing off of the lid rotating your body too much is going to cause you to keep spinning once you land on the rail most likely resulting in you folling off the rail to the far side or Landing switch and splitting it skiing backwards which is always scary and never fun and not rotating enough will cause you to slip off the rail on the close side we really want to contact the rail at exactly 90° of rotation but we also want our spin to be stopping right as we land on the rail we don't want to throw the spin really hard and hit our feet on the rail at 90° rotation and keep rotating we want our rotation to be slowing down and stopping right at that 90° mistake number five is not bending your knees when you land on the rail a lower center of gravity is going to make it much less likely that you slip out and it's just overall going to put you in a more athletic stance that will generally make any ski trick easier not just rail slide so it's always important when doing a ski trick to keep those knees bent keep them soft and be in that that nice athletic stance so stay low keep the knees soft while you slide it looks good and it makes things so much easier so mistake number six is not looking at the end of the rail if you're sliding rails and you're feeling confident and comfortable with your approach angle your pop your speed all of those things but you're still struggling to make it to the end of the rail then you might just be doing the wrong thing with your head and eyes which I see all the time while sliding a rail you want to keep your eyes locked onto the end of the rail don't look down at your feet or anywhere or else stay locked in on the end which is going to keep your body in a consistent position throughout the slide making it a lot easier to slide all the way to the end and really grease that rail so next time you're out on the hill try to look towards the end of the rail as you're sliding and you should notice you're able to make it to the end of the rail much easier the seventh and final mistake is not using your inside edge of your front ski to help grip the rail this is called pedaling and even if you have the balance approach angle speed pop and you're looking at the end of the rail you still might be struggling to really feel like you lock into those rail slides and that's because you're probably not pedling properly or pedaling at all I have a full video about this and I'm going to link it in the upper right corner right now but the tldr is that again you want to use that inside edge of your front ski to kind of grip into the rail to help you control your slide and feel locked into the rail this is a concept that once learned will make a massive Improvement in your rail slide so be sure to check out that video if you're interested in more information and there it is guys seven common mistakes that I see new skiers make when trying to learn their first rail slides if this helped you leave a comment down below and if you have anything else that you're struggling with that you don't think this video covered again leave a comment down below and I will get to those as soon as I can I hope this video helps you guys I hope you guys start greasing rails because rail skiing is so damn fun and I want all you guys to be able to enjoy it again thanks for watching see you in the next one
