How To Grow Trees From Acorns. (Sawtooth Oaks)

so this is Steven what is your name Oh Harris and then what are these acorns saw-toothed oak acorns so me and my best man Harris here went out at the middle kind of latter part of September and went and picked all of these and harvested all of them so we can grow trees out of it these are the Sawtooth Oaks show the people what you've collected yeah so what we did is we put them in a frigerator all winter long and yeah those are some dandies sawtooth Oaks make the biggest hugest acorns anyway so what we did is we put these in the frigerator dark and cold and then we just pulled them out its first a year February and so what we're going to do is plant them give us one second we'll demonstrate how we plant them okay so what we've got here is just a normal Styrofoam cup Bob in the packs of 24 and scoop are so completely full get it all flush at the top pack it in pretty good yep my best man here is making the hole for the apron just a little deep press we've already looked through a bunch of these and picked out the cream of the crop so we're just putting our anchoring in there I put them in sideways you can put them in head up tell whichever way you want to I put them sideways and just get it packed in right below the surface and man hold on my bestman here with the drill bit so what we do is just drills the hole about yay whoo good job so anyway so we drilled us the drill hole so when it rains whoo the water won't hold in the cup have a good dream but it'll still hold good moisture and then we will stack it there with all the rest of ours we've got tubs where we set them outside yeah we've got lots more to do look at our bag of acorns all right thanks for joining us all right so we're here it's May 1st now it's me and my main man Harris these are the contraptions of where I've put the trees so the last time you took a Styrofoam cup submerge the acorn they're here it's May first now a lot of what I'll show you here in just a second the acorn will start a tap root the tap root will go into the ground in this instance our Styrofoam cup and then once this tap root is established then you'll see the tree start to sprout so let's take a closer look here these are all caged up because your worst enemy is a squirrel so we've got burrs and everything set up here just to yeah just to keep the squirrels away we don't like squirrel errs yes no wait one so as you can see here this is probably my number one tree that's already sprouted it's already like 6 inches that one's 3 inches that one's two and a half but if you zoom in right here on this one you can see the little tap root and that's the tap root it comes out at the end of the acre or interns goes into the ground and then soon we will have a big sprout come out just like our best tree we've got growing yeah it rained today so they got good water so this is our production we've got one two three four you know thirty forty trees planted so we'll see what our odds are and we'll come back here and that's probably about two months and give you a new update on what's going on what do you say all right so it is June 8th you followed this through when we did the yeah when we did the acorns everything so you will zoom in here just a little bit this is what we are a couple of months later so here's our star from Cup and they're again these are our sawtooth Oaks that's about getting close to 12 inches long and we here's another 8 9 10 inches long so anyway we had a hundred percent success on the acres and sprouting and growing trees but the squirrels did major damage and we lost about half our crop so we don't they can't so anyway we ended up with about half of our production because of the squirrels yeah so at first I just had mesh over the top bucket yeah but once the squirrels I mean once the trees got a certain high I had to be a little proactive and put a whole big thing on top of it there again I'm in the city and we have a lot of squirrels the main nemesis of all this yeah yeah did you run him off no what okay anyway so hold one of our trees and then thank y'all for joining with us so what we will do from here in end of October we will go and pick the site and plant them thank you this our whole crop of salt Cheetos we started in September when the acreage spell kept him in the frigerator all winter and now we have trees oh and I would like to add the miracle grow soil did super good yes because we don't have any weeds or anything in it okay good job so there's no weeds or anything in it last year we had a lot of weeds in her crop but anyway this year is a lot cleaner thanks for joining us [Music]
