hey everyone i hope you're enjoying quilt week we are having a blast here this week already and it's only tuesday um we are here today with linda she just showed us a great tip on how to fold a quilt a lot of us fold them in half and fold them in half again and half again and store them away she has a great tip on how to fold these quilts and linda if you'd like to show us yes we could take our mask off so we could talk so you can hear us better too the important thing when you're folding your quilts is to to fold on the diagonal of the fabric so what you're going to do is take the longer edge of a rectangle or it could be a square and you're gonna you're gonna fold in each side like a tent okay so you can see right here this is the diagonal on the fabric so then what you do next is you take this far end no not that the corner of the tent and you bring it up to the top of the tent and you just bring this out like this so again this is on the diagonal so then all you have to do is fold this in to meet the edges here still it's on the diagonal and the important thing about being on the diagonal is it doesn't make permanent creases in your quilt like um if you fold them straight so now what we're going to do to make it smaller is we're going to bring this over so leah to meet this still you can see they're on the diagonal so that takes the stress off your seams as well right yes it does and it's really important if you're going to store them for any length of time because when you bring them out from storage you don't have all these creases so then what we're going to do is let's bring this down here and i'll bring this down here and you can do this part any way you want because it's still on the diagonal and so here you have a quilt that is totally folded on the diagonal and it actually it ends up being smaller and more complicated than holding it that way absolutely if you have a stack of quilts like i do in a closet where you just put them up this will keep them safe and preserve without having all these permanent folds which when you bring them out to the bed it looks really bad right you almost have to iron them before you can actually put them out but you've already you've already um kind of ruined you know those creases even with ironing it it doesn't come out as well awesome that's how you do it all right thank you everyone hope to see you in this week
