one, two, three, four! Rev up your engines! It's time for the Scotty Kilmer Channel if you're challenging the spark plugs out
in your engine, only to discover that your spark plugs are covered with oil
like this, don't freak out, it doesn't mean that your engine is going to blow up,
it just means that your spark plug tubes are leaking, and I'm going to show you how
to fix that today, now the spark plug tubes are built into
the valve cover, so you have to remove the valve cover to change them, so first
take all the spark plug wires out and put them to the side, then take the
clamps off the hoses that go to the valve cover, and pull them off, then
remove the wiring harness off of the top of the cover here, then get a big socket
to take the nuts off the top of the valve cover, just remove all four of these
nuts, 1,2,3,4, then spin them all off, now the valve covers will often stick on, so
get a screwdriver and pry under, with a little prying and wiggling, you can
usually get it off, and here are the leaking seals, you just take them out and
replace them, now it's a good idea to buy a package of seals and the valve cover
gasket in one kit, so you replace them all at the same time while you have it
taken apart, so first fit the valve cover gasket on top of the valve cover, and put
a little sealer on the corners, so it doesn't fall out, then let the sealer dry about 15 minutes,
so it doesn't fall off when you turn it upside down and put it on the engine, I'm
using this purple colored gasket, that's made out of silicon, it lasts a long time
and doesn't need re-tightening, then just put the valve cover back on top of the
holes, then get the spark tube gaskets, and put a little sealer on the inside, on the
lip that touches it, and place them on top of the spark plug tubes, then put the
bolts back on top and tighten them up, then do the final tightening by the
inside front one, then the inside back one, then the inside front one here, and
the final inside back one here to tighten it up, and then of course put the
hoses back on, and of course put the spark plug wires back in, put them in
their holes till they snap, and put the wiring harness back in it's hole, and a
lot of times you'll spill some oil, so to do a good job, clean it off with some
brake cleaner before you start the car, spray it until you get all the oil off
and it won't smoke, so the next time you find oil all over your spark plugs, don't
freak out, change the spark plug tubes on your engine instead, and remember if
you've got any car questions just visit scotty kilmer.com and I'll answer them
as soon as I get back from this ride!
