now guys Ryan here so I got some upper control arms that are going in the Hilux Shawn my last video I said there was a couple of reasons why you might want to install some upper control arms a couple of those reasons were on full droop of your suspension your factory control arms combined on the strop and also you regain this in the camber and caster adjustment with some aftermarket upper control arms you can also gain more clearance to larger tires and also to different offset rims if they're hitting on the factory you see a aftermarket you see a miter saw a little bit of extra so I got some Blackhawk ECAs by Road safe if you're in Brisbane I recommend go and see Greg a track master for drive at Stefan he's a good bloke and I'll hook you up with a good deal on some upper control arms all right after you crack the real nuts just want to Jack one side up I just got the jack here just gonna have to get that wheel off the ground so I can rip it off get the drill hack going again I would strongly recommend using the dodgiest bottle jack you can possibly find the factory ones great probably have to under the sway bar linkage just there and when we remove this castle nut and cotter pin here from the upper control arm I'm just gonna have to make sure that this assembly doesn't drop and pull on the brake line just the sway bar linkage here is a 17 you want to grab a pair of pliers pull the cotter pin out of the castle nut with the Blackhawk UCAS they come with new cotter pins and new castle nuts so it's not too big of an issue if you damage the pin while removing it so to remove that castle nut it's a 19 millimeter we're gonna have to completely remove the sway bar linkage first because it's in the way pull that out and let it fall down and then you have access to the castle nut there if that's been on there for a few years that's going to be pretty tight so if ever break a bar or something it's gonna make your life a bit easier so because of the way the spindle here mounts to this bolt it actually has to be shocked' free so you just got to give it a tap with a hammer on this flat surface here and it should pop itself loose might need a bit more than a tap but gathered another gentle tap slightly less gentle this time and do this big long bolt that goes all the way through top to pivot points of your upper control arm and if you're lucky you can reach into the engine bay and pull that out without having to unbolt anything though the end of the bolts nineteen milk grabber 19 milk spanner and chuck it on the other end to hold it so I can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure this long bolt is talked up to something like 80 foot pounds from the factory which is quite stiff so definitely a bar will come in handy for this one as well oh yeah so that long bolt straight through there is now undone you can see upper control arm is loose and he's gonna have to help your bonnet and pull that out through the engine bay and if you're lucky it'll come out to up control alarms on the left foot of the factory one on the right is the aftermarket just the angle here through there compared to that will allow more droop down before it hits on the strap there so mine under droop it was actually hitting on the strap and it creates a clunking noise while you're driving so if you have a if you've done a suspension lift and you're getting a clunking that could be a cause so if you are changing the strut now would be the time to do that while the upper control arm is up just on another note as well if you're going anything above a 50mm lift or even with a 50 mil lift I would suggest getting some of these just here this little plate that's a sway bar relocation bracket so a few companies make them and that basically pulls your sway bar just forward enough so that it doesn't contact the strut assembly as mine was doing thats why I've got the relocation in there done I've put the bolt through partially first and just maneuvered the whole unit up in there with the bolt hanging out of it and making sure I've got the washer already on this side just going to hold that up there and select this bolt through and just feed it in get it out the other side so the Blackhawk upper control arm kit came supplied with eight of these washers which are actually cone-shaped and online the factory upper control arms the apex of the cone was in towards the coil on both sides so that's the way I'm putting these ones back the kit came with eight of these for some reason but I can't fit two on the insides and it didn't come like that from the factory so I'm just putting on each of the outsides and I've got that boat now through there and then not done up on the end I'm just going to wait till everything's back together and the cars sitting on the ground and under pressure and then I'll tighten that up fully all right so I'm gonna lift this lower control arm back up just like that so I'm just gonna wind this lower control arm back up so I can get the spindle back into the upper control arms right there already so just lifted it up and off here so that I can get some thread showing through the bottom and I'll bang that nut on and tighten that up to hold the weight there and I can remove this Jack out of here tighten everything back up put the sway bar link back in and then we test it out and do the other side if you got the Black Hawk upper control arms the new supplied Castle Knight is also a 19 same as factory so you just want to do that castle node up make sure you can access the hole where the cotter pin goes through there put your cotter pin through and then bend it out so that it can't come undone all right there it is installed so just go over check that everything's tight got no spare nuts and bolts laying around double check your um bolt up here through the upper control arms tightened up you'll make sure that carful not there with the cotter pin through it make sure your sway bar linkage is done back up if you change the strut make sure your three bolts on top of tight and your one down there sight if you did a remote reservoir make sure you mount that up safely and securely and if you did that sway bar extension bracket you want to check that's all done up as well and then you should be right the truck your tie back on and do the exact same on the other side I almost forgot well you've got your wheel off make sure to get a photo for the gram several knows you're in mechanics one other thing to remember is that these control arms and a lot of others are greasable so to get the cap off you just use a little screwdriver or something like that try not to damage the paint try to leave it from the back so you don't scratch off a bit there you can see and you've got a grease nipple in there so you just give that a grease before you drive too far also you will need a wheel alignment after you do this as these aftermarket upper control arms do change your camber and caster I know there may be obvious thing once you drop your vehicle back on the ground retighten the wheel nuts and do them up in an X pattern for example 1 2 3 4 5 6 hey guys I'm back you've got the ECA Zin all done just went for a wheel alignment and that's all sweet now fortunately camera ran out of batteries and I had to switch over to the GoPro for a little bit at the end there but um you get the idea it's exact same on the other side as it is on the first side so I didn't bother showing you the other one I did find out as well from someone else who had done it that the if you don't have a body lift like I do those bolts are a little bit harder to get out you might have to unbolt your airbox and lift that up a little bit but apart from that everything will be the same with or without a body lift so if you are tossing up between getting the UCAS or not and you do have like a 50 mil lift or they're about to hire I'll definitely recommend it it rides so much nicer now now that has proper alignment because just before everything was maxed out the caster was maxed forward using the lower control arm and then they just used the upper to get what a line that they could and it was okay but pretty rough compared to what it is now differently suggests doing that if you're thinking about it what else here so I do have these other leaf springs in the back here they're actually out of a young RG Colorado so I'm chucking them in now and you probably have to see that in the next video
