How to Easily Remove Silicone Caulk Without Using Chemicals

Hi, everyone! It's Jeff with Home Repair Tutor. As you can see here, the silicone caulk between the backsplash and counter needs to be replaced. It's fissured and cracked, and it's just not looking good. So if you don't want to use a chemical caulk remover, you can use a razor blade. But sometimes the caulk is difficult to scrape off. So what do you do? What are your options? You don't want to ruin an expensive countertop like this one or an expensive backsplash by using a chemical caulk remover. So an option that I thought of is a standard hairdryer. Now one word of caution: Ask your wife for permission before doing this. And yes, I'm talking from experience. But what I did is I ran the hairdryer on high heat for 30-40 seconds across an 8-10 section of the caulk. And that warmed up the caulk enough that I could use the straight razor again to easily remove all the caulk on the vertical surface that touched the tile as well as on the horizontal surface that touched the granite countertop. Remove all the caulk in between these two surfaces and underneath the tile, and any caulk that remains on the grout as well. Because when you go to add the new silicone caulk, it won't stick properly. So this is my big tip for you.
