hey art friends in this lesson we're going to draw a rainbow lore key and we're going to draw it realistic i hope you're excited and you're going to follow along with me you've got a marker and some paper at any time during this lesson if i ever go too fast you can always pause the video to take extra time to finish a step in this lesson i'm using a black marker you don't have to if you don't want to you could use a pencil but if you are using a marker you want to make sure that you have at least two sheets of paper so that your marker doesn't soak through the one sheet and get onto the table we're first going to start by drawing our lower keith's eye up here in the top right of our paper we're just going to draw a small circle now we can also color in that circle solid then let's draw another circle that goes around the first one cool now we could draw the beak let's draw the letter c next to our i we're going to draw about here and we also want to draw that lower than the eye okay now let's draw the the beak we're going to draw the top line first so we're going to draw a diagonal line that comes out and then we're going to draw a curve that comes down now the bottom of this beak is a little lower than that c curve okay now let's draw the mouth we're going to draw a short line that comes out and it's right in the middle of that curve and we're going to draw another curve that goes down back up and then we're going to connect it to the bottom of the beak cool now let's draw the bottom mouth at the bottom of the beak and it's just a simple curve that comes up and connects to the top okay now let's draw the top of our lower kett's head and we're going to draw a curve that comes up over the eye and then curves back and stops behind the eye now let's draw the back of our bird's neck we're going to curve down and then out now let's draw the front of his neck we're just going to draw a short curve that comes down and kind of matches the back of the head too all right now lorikeets have a really cool black mask around their eyes so we'll first draw a little curve above the beak for the nostrils then we're going to draw this cool curve it's going to come over the top of the eye around the eye and then back under and then connect into the beak cool now let's color in that shape around the eye next let's draw the body to our bird we're going to draw a curve on the back so we're going to draw a curve that comes down and then we can also draw the belly and the chest so we're going to draw a line that comes down and then it's going to bend into the belly next we could draw the wing over here we're going to draw a bumpy line we're going to draw use a bunch of u's that are connected together then let's draw the feathers down here we're going to draw the first row of feathers now i'm going to draw a curve that comes down like this and then i'm going to draw another curve in front of it and i'm going to keep repeating that same shape until we come back here and connect to this line cool all right now we can finish the wing we're going to draw longer feathers that come further back so we're going to draw a diagonal line back and then we're going to draw a line that comes up and connects to the front feather now let's divide up the feathers on this part of the wing we're going to draw lines all the way down just like that now we can finish the body and also start the legs we're going to draw another curve right here it's going to come down and then back up and connect to the belly then let's repeat this same shape and we're going to draw it right next to the first one right here we're going to draw it's kind of a v shape comes down and then back up now we're going to finish the tail a little later after we draw the branch let's first draw the feet that are hanging onto the branch so i'm going to draw a backwards c shape right below the body now let's draw a bigger c shape that goes over the top comes down and then connects to the bottom now that's for the first talon we're going to draw another toe that sticks out right next to it i'm going to draw another backwards c shape and then i'm going to draw the bigger c shape that goes over the top around and then connects to the bottom now we're going to draw one more down here it's smaller this is for the bottom toe backwards c and then we can draw another one right next to it like this so it looks like an upside down v and then we're gonna connect it now we're gonna draw the right foot and we're gonna draw it a little different than this one so we're going to start over here we're going to draw almost looks like a sideways u or sideways j then we're going to come back around and over the top and then we're going to stop and that's a lot shorter now let's draw the top of the foot we're going to come out of the feathers right here and we're going to draw a longer talon it's going to come down and then we're gonna connect back up into the first toe we drew cool now right here let's connect it into the feathers all right cool we finished the right foot we're gonna draw another talon underneath but let's draw the branch next so we're going to connect these two feet we're going to draw a curve that connects them then i'm going to draw another curve below this one for the bottom of the branch it's going to come over here we're going to imagine it going behind the first toe and then we're going to connect there and we're going to continue close to the side of the page now let's come back up here and we can finish the top of the branch and we can come over here and finish the left side of the branch off to the side almost touching the side of the paper then we can draw the bottom of the branch again now let's come back over here and let's draw the bottom talon i'm going to draw a v sticking out from behind the branch let's draw this leg connecting into the feather so i'm going to draw two lines coming down touching the toes and we can also draw the tail and it's really long we're going to come down connect to the branch we're going to imagine it going behind the branch and we're going to come out the bottom and then back up looks like the letter v then we can also imagine that going behind the branch and coming back up and connecting to the bird now let's draw a few more feathers on the tail i'm going to draw lines that come down and go behind the branch so i'm going to do that one more time down behind the branch then we can also add a sideways v for more feathers sticking out behind the tail now it kind of looks like just a plain bird it doesn't really look like a lower key yet and now they have tons of colors so let's divide up the colors we're going to draw a zigzag line that comes down behind the head and then we're going to start curving back towards the tail then let's come over here where the neck is and we're going to draw curved lines that are connected to each other and touch that zigzag line that came down then we're going to go a little further we're going to draw curved lines coming down continue that line so we connected to the wing then we're going to continue that line and come under the chest and connect to the belly now the head's blue the back is green and the chest is red and yellow they also have a blue patch underneath their chest on their belly so i'm going to draw another bumpy line comes down and connects to the front of our bird we did it we finished drying our rainbow lower key it looks pretty cool but it's going to look a lot better once we add all the rainbow colors this part i'm going to fast forward but at the end you guys can pause it to match the same coloring i'm halfway done coloring my bird and it's turning out so much better with color on it now on the head i first used a light blue and i colored in a feather texture and then i used dark blue to color in between the feathers to make it look more realistic i also used red for the beak and i left a little highlight on the top of the beak and then i colored the very tip of the beak with yellow and blended that into the red on the back of the head i used bright green and then used a little texture in here for feathers and then used a dark green to finish the wing on the belly i used yellow and red and i used the red to create a feather texture and i smoothed out the texture going back over it with yellow all right i'm going to continue fast forwarding the video and then at the end i'll pause it and explain more of what i did to color my bird on the talons i'm going back and forth i'm not coloring it in solid that way it gives it more of that leathery bird foot feeling that texture that birds have on their feet so it makes it look a little more realistic then i'm going to go back over and smooth it out with my white colored pencil now also on the belly i use dark blue for most of it and then a highlight with a lighter blue on the front this makes it look like there's light shining from the right side of our bird then also i added some shadow with my dark green and also black colored pencil underneath the wing to make this look like the wing is in front of the body now i'm ready to color in the branch that the bird's sitting on i'm going to do the same thing that i did on the bird's feet i'm going to go back and forth in a backwards c motion to make the branch look more 3d then i'm going to go back over it i'm going to start really dark on the bottom of the branch and get lighter towards the top i'm going back over the brown with my light peach and this smooths out the texture but it still keeps the highlight on top of the branch [Music] now if we want a little more contrast we can use our black colored pencil to add a darker shadow on the bottom of our branch now i came back in here and i added a few more lines to the right side of the tail and that's because i i just thought it looked too skinny so that's a fun thing about art is you guys can change your drawings any way you want if you want to take the time and finish your background you can do that you could add more leaves you could even draw another rainbow lower keep back here maybe even smaller all right we did it we finished drawing and coloring our rainbow lower key it looks so much better colored in now you guys can pause the video right now to match the same coloring also remember it's not important if your drawings look exactly like mine most important thing is to have fun and to practice i promise the second time you draw your bird it'll turn out better than the first time we'll see you later our friends goodbye if you had fun following along in this lesson be sure to subscribe to our youtube channel by clicking the circle then you can click the bell to get
