hello everyone welcome back to my channel again I'm Daniel Chung today we are going to talk about color grading and before we get anything further let's watch the example video I'm going to use for color grading today [Music] okay I hope you guys like the video you just watched and that video is from my Instagram video that I made few months ago now since I started to publish video content like extreme real Tick Tock and YouTube video on my social media do you have been a lot of people asking me about how I color grade my footage to make them loose Cinema Maddie and Moody so in today's video I'm going to use one clip from the Instagram video that you guys just watched to show you guys how I color grade my footage to achieve Moody Lou you guys see on my social media and professional teamwork so without further thought let's get right into it now the software I'm going to use for today is damage resolved and I'm using the studio version of it which is the pay version and for the video footage I'm going to use as example today it was shot by my Sony SMS 3 with color profile as law 3. but don't worry if you're not using the Sony camera in the same color profile like me even you are using other brand of camera and color profile you can still apply my color grading process and structure for any footage you shoot now as you guys can see on the screen I already put the video clip that we are going to color grade today on my timeline and I choose white shot from our video as my example today now here we are in our color page and to save some time you can see I already have 10 nodes with Nan on my Note 3. so let's go through each of them and I will explain all the details you guys should know step by step so the first step I'm going to do is I'm going to clean my CSD node and go to effect library on the right side and type color space transformation and drag the effect on my CST note so what color space transformation does is it can help us to transform our flag log or row footage turn into different color space and Gamma we want like you see all the different camera options over here and like I mentioned earlier my footage was shot by my Sony SMS 3 with slot 3. so in here only option menu for the input color space I'm going to choose Sony X gamma 3 cine and for the input gamma I'm going to choose Sony as law 3. of course you can choose the color space in gamma depends on the camera and the color space setting while you were shooting but in here s gamma 3 cine and Slot 3 are the setting I use now as you can see the cloud transform effect just converted a lot of footage we have into the same color space in gamma of the project which are the rec 709 colors face and if you want to check your timeline color space you can go click the project setting and click color management then you can see your timeline color space and output cosplay for your project and my right now is set to Rex the online gamma 2.4 so to match that in my auto color space I'm going to choose Rec 709 but for the gamma instead choosing the gamma 2.4 I'm going to choose synonym for low for my gamma and the reason is because I'm going to use one of damage results built-in film look like as a base for my color agree and this built-in loss allows you to create a good looking image really fast but they are designed for senior view gamma so that's why even our output color space is Rec 709 but I want to choose the name field log as my output gamma over here and once we finish setting our color space transformation the next thing we are going to do is go click lock and we are going to choose film look and for a lot over here I'm going to choose code at 238360d and once we select it a lot we can go to our correction node and start to do some adjustment for our footage but here's one thing really important you guys should keep in mind you always want to prove your Correctional in front of your cosplay transformation node if you put it behind the cloud space transformational you will lose the color information especially with the highlight and the shadow so that's why I put my correction note in front of my CST note over here now inside the correction note the first thing I want to do is go to add more saturation and contrast for my video to that the whole image looks more saturated and have more contrast in it and then I want to lift my me tongue and Shadow to make the whole scene looks brighter and maybe lower down the Highlight a little bit because I feel right now the storefly looks a little bit too bright and last for the tin I want to add some Greenwich in my image just a little bit not too much and from my y balance I also want my image looks a little bit warmer which here I think it looks perfect now move on to our next step which is our skin note so for now I think my skin looks a little bit too saturated and I want to lower down the saturation only for my skin in order for me to do that I'm going to choose qualifier and click picker then I will use speaker to clean my skin and select my skin individually and to see your selection you can click the Highlight icon over here or use the shortcut shift plus Edge on your keyboard to see your selection and once you see the selection you want to use the range tools on the bottom to make sure you only mainly select your skin but not other thing else if not when you do the adjustment for your selection other part of the image will be affected so once you finish the selection part you want to use the denoise function over here to solve the edges of your selection and most of the time I will set it to between 8 to 11 and in here I will set it to 10. now after we finish the selection part and that's what I want to do is go to our saturation and lower it down and as you can see it will only affect the part that we selected and I want to lower my saturation probably around 42 and you can see the before and after over here and move on to our next step which is our Joker blue note so this note is just for my personal taste for color as you guys can see the blue of our background now looks more like the ocean blue and for me personally I want to achieve the teal blue as the same like this screenshot from The Joker so in order for me to do that I'm going to use the qualifier and pick it again to select the blue part of my image like we just did for our skin and again you can press 3 plus Edge on your keyboard to see the selection range and adjust by that and once you probably selected everything I'm going to change my Hue value to 57 and once I did that when you see the before and after then you can see the blue of my background already lose more tail and lose more similar like the teal blue we see in our reference picture now after we finish adjusting the blue of our background I basically finished 70 of the color grading process for this clip but in order to make this image looks more Moody and pop I'm going to do some adjustment and add some effect to make my image look more cinematic so now if you look at my image I think right now my subject looks a little bit dark so when people first look at this image the focus point will not be on my subject but will be on the store flight it might land in the back because these are the two brightness part in order image so in order to bring more attention back on myself picture I will use this little trick I use all the time when I'm color grading my video and the trick is I'm going to my staff journal and choose window and then I'm going to create a circle Max around my subject and make it bigger enough to cover the whole subject then I'll use the circle on the outside of our mask to reduce the edge softness of our Circle mask and once you finish then I will go to our again to leave our highlight to 1.1 and when you finish the adjustment of the brightness then we are going to click tracker and click track forward and reverse button to check our Max on my subject for the whole clip and once we finish tracking when you see the result after the adjustment for massager you can see my charger looks more standal and eye-catching after I add some brightness on it even just a little bit but still can make a big difference for my image and move on to our next note which is the linear node so in order to make our image looks more Moody I want to add a linear effect to add some Darkness around my subject and by doing that not only my environment will be less noticeable but my subject can also looks more standout in our image so what I'm going to do now is I'm going to taiwania in our effect library and dragging on my linear note and then in the operating mode I'm going to choose Advanced and for the photo shape I'm going to choose rectangle and next I want to make sure the center of my vinian is covered on my subject so I want to choose the center Precision over here and if you can see the center Mark for any reason you can always go to our function menu to click FX overlay to see the center point of your fat and once you make sure your venial fat is mainly cover your subject then you can start to play around winning a fast setting to get the best look you want and it all depends on the personal preference us and you can do whatever you think is the best for your image but for me over here I would adjust the size and the opacity and also the softness to make my minion affect those as natural as possible and once I finish adjusting my renew effect when you see the comparison between the before and after you can tell how much moodier the image looks like compare the image with and without the viney and the fat now move on to our next step which is our selection note so in order to make my image looks more interesting and creative I will always add a collection while glow in your Fab from a highlight in my image and if you want to know more detail about glowing your fat I also made a tutorial for everything you need to know about it and I will put the links down below so please feel free to check it out but back to our topic in here on going to our effect library antihilation then we will check the collection effect on my halation node and the first thing you want to do is go check view isolated region for you to do this you can see the selection range of our collection that and here I will only want to have the Collision effect in the Highlight part of my image which is my land in the storeflight so I would use the sharehold function to adjust our selection range and once you finish the selection you can go down to other just the chain and spare range for our collection of fat and again this all depends on your personal creative choice so you can adjust it until you feel so testify for your footage and here is the before and after comparison between with and without the collection of fat now move on to our last two notes the first one is the the noise node and the second one is the sharpness note and the reason I have these two notes is because if you don't need to see my image you can see there are tons of noise on my footage and I want to denounce my footage to make it look cleaner and at the same time to maintain the sharpness after denoising your image you want to add some sharpness for your footage so that's why I put the sharpness note after already noise note and because I already made in the video specific for this topic before so in here in order to save some times I'm not going to explain all the details over here again but if you guys are interested and want to see the detail and concept behind this topic I will also put the links down below for you guys to watch but in here I will just go to my denotional include motion effect and for the friend I'm going to choose 5 and for the type I'm going to choose better which can give us the better result and for the motion range I'm going to choose small since my software will move in the shop and go down to the sharehold I will send my denois Luma and chroma value both to 15. and next I will go to the special sharehold and unlinked learning options and send my chroma value to 7 to denote the RGB nodes in my image and once we finish the denoting setting you can tell our image looks a lot cleaner after we did an adjustment compared before and after and the last step of this video is we go to our sharpness node and click blur and we set our sharpness to 0.48 and as you can see on the screen my image looks a lot sharper after I add the sharpness new and finally we finish all the color grading process for this video clip here is the final result looks like [Music] myself so here you have it I hope after this video you have more idea about how to achieve the Moody color grading for your video and maybe you can apply the tips and workflow you guys learned from this video to your own personal project so I hope you guys enjoy the video today and maybe you can take something away from it and if you like this video please don't hesitate to click that subscribe button down below and give me a thumbs up I really want to hear from you guys experience from color grading your video so please feel free to tell me what you think and comment down below I will try to reply as soon as possible so it's a wrap for today's video I'm Daniel John I'll see you guys next video peace foreign
