[Music] hi today i'm going to show you how to create breakout rooms in zoom breakout rooms allow you to split your meetings and zoom into separate sessions you can move your participants into different rooms as long as you are the host before you can do all this you will have to enable the breakout room feature in your account settings to do that go to settings and then go to in meeting advanced and make sure that under breakout rooms where it says allow host to split meeting participants into separate smaller rooms is enabled and is blue if you would like to allow host to assign participants to breakout rooms when you schedule then you can click on that blue box once you're in your zoom meeting on the bottom you're going to see a button that says breakout rooms the first thing it's going to ask you is if you want to assign breakout rooms automatically or manually if you're going to use this for small groups i recommend that you use manually and then you're going to click on create breakout rooms and here you can have as many rooms as you want here i have two rooms set up if you want to add more rooms in the bottom you can click add a room you can also rename them if you want to rename them after the name of the group that you're going to use for example this could be my small group the next one could be um the giraffe group and you can put the dolphin group however many groups that you need and then before you go ahead and assign click on your options and look at your settings i usually leave the two top um squares unchecked because the top one says if you want to create rooms automatically and i don't i know specifically who i want to put in each group so i want to do it manually i don't want it random and then the second checkbox is if i want to allow participants to come back to the main room but if i click on that then i'm going to have students going back and forth and i'm going to have to be reminding them to go back to their room so i just rather leave it unchecked so that they cannot leave the room unless i close the rooms the next check mark is to have a timer so for example after 20 minutes i want to end the rooms and it'll notify me whenever the time is up once the time is up i'm going to have a countdown for students to see and they'll be able to see how long they have before the room automatically brings them back if you want to add another room you can click add room and here where it says assign it'll show you everybody that's in your zoom meeting and who you can assign to that small group i'm going to click on student and then for the giraffe group if i click a sign i can click on the remaining students once you're ready for the students to go to their room you would click on open all rooms now on their end they're going to get a box that says the host is inviting you to join a breakout room and what you're going to need to do is let them know to click on the blue button that says join breakout room if not they will still remain in the main room so until they click on that blue button they will remain here once they click on that blue button then it will take them to their breakout room now i'm in the main room by myself and if i click on breakout rooms i can join either of these two breakout rooms if i want to check what they're doing or if i want to visit them and give them some small group instruction so here i'm going to join the giraffe group i simply click on join join group yes and now it'll take me to that breakout room once i'm here you can see that students can ask for help um when they click on the button that says ask for help it'll give you an alert for you to join that room and if i'm done giving instruction in this small group i simply click on leave room and i don't want to leave the meeting i just want to leave the breakout room and it'll return me back to the main session if i click back on breakout room i can either join the other group or close all rooms something else you can do is you can move students to another group so here when i click on student 2 and then i click on move to i'm going to choose i want to move them to small group so it's going to move the student to the next group something else you can do is broadcast a message to all so here you can type to your students and say don't forget to write the date on your assignment and the students will all get that message on the top of their screen at the top you'll also see the timer of how much longer the students have in that room so that's something that your students will also see the time remaining and once you're ready to close all the rooms you simply close all the rooms and it'll give them a timer of how long they have before the rooms close and they have to come back if they don't click on return to main session then it'll automatically bring them back and little by little you'll see all of your students coming back to your main room there we go everybody's back so once again don't forget step one you have to enable the breakout rooms in your settings before you start your zoom meeting afterwards you're going to get the breakout room icon in the bottom of your screen and you're going to create the rooms either automatically or manually once you choose manually you're going to go to options and you're going to check mark the settings that you want and finally you can assign who you want to each breakout room thank you for watching this video i hope this tutorial helps you with creating breakout rooms for your class i will also add a link with
