this video is sponsored by dehancer I'm going to show you how to create this film look in Premiere Pro now there's two ways that I'm going to show you how I do this and the first one is going to be with just the plugins that come inside of Premiere Pro and the other is going to be with the hanser which is a paid option down here I'll have my clip on the timeline and the first thing I want to create is some halation and what halation is is just that glowing effect that you see around like a light source or certain dark objects in film and it looks really good so in order to create this I'm just going to go ahead and click on my clip hold down option or alt on the keyboard and then drag this clip onto video layer number two and that's going to duplicate it then I'm just going to go ahead and select that second clip go over here to the double arrows and go down to effects and I'm going to type in Channel blur then click and drag Channel blur onto that second clip go up here to effect controls and then scroll down to the channel blur effect and over here under red blurriness I'm just going to change this to 50. then make sure that you have repeat Edge pixels checked off then go up here to opacity blending mode and just change this to lighten and now if I zoom this in you can see that there is some halation that's been applied around the dark edges of my clip and that actually looks pretty good if you're not happy with how that looks what you can do is just go back over here under Channel blur and you can bring this down just a little bit until you dial it in and make it look the way that you want it to next I'm going to add some Bloom and that's just that dreamy hazy soft look that you see in film in order to create this I'm just going to go ahead and make another duplicate of my first clip on video layer number one so I'm going to click on it hold down alt or option and then drag this to video layer number three then click on video layer number three go over here to the effects Tab and then type in Luma key then just go ahead and click and drag Luma key onto that clip on video layer number three and now I just want to turn off video layer number two by clicking on this I button here as well as video layer number one then I'm just going to go back up here to Luma key and bring the cutoff all the way up to 100 at first and this is what's going to act as a mask so I'm just going to slowly bring this back and I want to just make sure that I include the highlights in my scene as well as a little bit of my face and I think Eight's probably going to be pretty good then I'm going to go back over here under the effects Tab and then type in gaussian blur and then click and drag gaussian blur onto that clip as well scroll down here and then I'm going to change the blurriness to 50 make sure that you check repeat Edge pixels and then horizontal and vertical are both selected then I'm just going to go back and turn these two video layers back on I'm going to go up here to opacity and I'm just going to bring this down until I find something that I like now I want to add in some film grain so in order to do that I'm just going to make another duplicate of that video layer Number One Clip and drag it onto video layer number four and then go ahead and select that clip go back over here to the effects Tab and now I'm going to search up noise click and drag noise onto that clip on video layer number four and then go up here to effects controls and scroll down to noise and I'm just going to change this to something like 10 and then I'm going to uncheck the box for use color noise you can leave that on if you want and then I'm just going to go up here to opacity blending mode and I'm going to change this to lighten now in order to give it those film colors I'll just go up here to the double arrows and go back to the project table then I'm going to go down here to this new item button and create an adjustment layer make sure this matches your sequence settings and press ok then I'll click and drag that adjustment layer onto video layer number five and spread it across all of my Clips go ahead and select it and then go up here to the color workspace then I'm just going to go down to the creative Tab and here under this look drop down Premiere Pro has a bunch of good looking Luts that you can use so I'm just going to select this one right here and I actually think this is too much so I'm going to play around with the intensity so I'm just going to drag this down until I have a desired look I think that looks pretty good right there I'm going to go back up here to the basic correction tab because I feel like this is a little bit underexposed I'm just going to bring those Shadows up just a little bit you can also add some of those widescreen black bars by going back over here to the double arrows and go into your project table clicking and dragging an adjustment layer again onto that next video layer above and drag it across your Clips go ahead and click on that clip go over here to the double arrows and go down to effects and type in crop and then click and drag the crop effect onto that new adjustment layer and then under effect controls up here just go up here at the top and type in 13 and then down here at the bottom type in 13 as well and now you have those cool little widescreen black bars I'll go ahead and play it back now the answer makes this ridiculously easy not just because it's a film emulation plug-in but it's just so simple to be able to go in and apply these different effects super quickly so in order to do this I have my same clip over here on the timeline as well I'm just going to click and drag an adjustment layer above that clip and then stretch it across then I'm going to select that adjustment layer and then go up here to the double arrows and go down to effects and I'm going to type in dehancer and then click and drag dehancer onto that adjustment layer then I'm just going to go up here to effect controls and scroll down to the dehancer effect and then drop down the film tab here and over here under profile you can see that there is a ton of different film emulations to choose from one that I like specifically is the Kodak Porta 800 so I'm just going to click on that one and then for push and pull down here you can use this to increase your exposure if you like next I'm going to go down here to film grain and I'm going to just focus on the shadows mid-tones and highlights so I'm going to change the Shadows to 10. I'm going to change my mid tones to nine and I'm going to change my highlights to nine and but you can play around and choose whichever one that you like like it doesn't have to be this it's going to be on a clip by clip basis what's really nice about the film grain and dehancer is that it's not just an overlay that lays over top of your footage it actually recreates the image using the grain also just make sure that you have this box checked for enable next I'm just going to scroll down here to the halation tab and drop that down and then I'm going to scroll down here and check the box for enabled that way this effect actually it gets applied to the clip and I'm just going to focus on local and Global diffusion so I'm going to change the local diffusion to something like 40. we'll go with 45 that looks good to me and then for Global diffusion I think 20 looks good you can play around with these settings for each clip that you have then I'm going to scroll down here to bloom and I'm just going to make sure that this box is checked for enabled and I'm just going to go here to amplify and increase this until I have a look that I actually like if you want to add those widescreen bars just go ahead and duplicate by holding on alt or option on these widescreen bars on this adjustment layer and drag it over top of that clip I also want to just go ahead and reposition this within the frame so I can see a little bit more of that background if you want to try out the answer for yourself they do have a free trial I'll leave a link down in the description and you can get 10 off the video editing plugins by using Code Tyler thank you so much to dehancer for sponsoring today's video if you want to know how I create the VHS effect in Premiere Pro check out this video right here and if you're looking to improve your video editing skills don't forget to subscribe and hit the Bell so you don't miss anything I'll see you in the next video
