luminal pool spaces like these are one of my favorite things to create in blender because they're super simple and satisfying to create [Music] before getting into the aesthetics we need to consider our design and how we're going to model our geometry when it comes to designing liminal spaces there isn't really a strict set of rules it's mostly blocking out the environment until you get something that feels right that said there are a couple of good guidelines to follow during the modelling phase to ensure satisfying results first of all stick to simple geometry shapes like spheres cubes and arches work really well and give it off that liminal vibe this means stay away from detailed geometry second while designing the space you need to constantly be thinking about lighting i found through my experience that holes where sunlight can enter give off a very aesthetic result as the rays are parallel and balance around in the space lining it up again these are just guidelines so feel free to experiment on your own once you've modeled something you're happy with we can move on to texturing lucky for us this is the simplest part of the process what i ended up going with was this tile texture i found online it works great as on its own it's very desaturated giving off a warm bounce light for instance this is what the scene would look like if the tiles were colored very yucky to unwrap our mesh we can either use small uv project or cube projector and then manually slide around the faces if needed [Music] for our water we need to create a cube and scale it into a thin slab that goes above the floor there are 101 ways to make a water shader but this is how i did it to save you guys some hassle i've uploaded this shader for free to download on my behance link in the description [Music] with things nearly complete all we have to do is set up our volumetrics to get a nice volumetric glow we need to make our volume texture very dense and our light source very bright this is what i found gives the best results but just experiment on your own to get things looking volumetric instead of dusty we need to increase our anastrophe the value will vary from scene to scene but somewhere between 0.2 and 0.8 works well so just experiment after that all you have to do is apply your favorite grade and you're done congrats you just made your first liminal pool space we just recently hit 200 subs and i'm stoked to keep making content like this so if you enjoyed it and found value make sure to subscribe
