[Music] here's the invasive mean that any kids have run through a field in Minnesota knows about it's called the stinging nettle and catch your ankles or your hands it's real bad well not all that bad but it can be a real pain anyways they make good cookin and they're a great treat for the whole family and they're really nutritious here's how you cook stinging nettles stinging nettles grow almost everywhere in Minnesota if you harvest them you want to break gloves my gloves unfortunately have a hole in it so I need to be careful but you're gonna grab the stem cut it off and then cut the leaves into a bowl some people cook with the stems but I find them a little tough [Music] you want to harvest the plants when they're about 2 feet tall they taller than that and then leaves them together little tough and leathery well nice and tender that should be a good amount if you look carefully you can see those little arrows there on the stems and underneath the leaves that's what gets you next fill your bowl with water and carefully watch all your leaves sturm them soak for a couple minutes and then stir them again just poured the strainer we are ready to cook so we're just gonna heat up some olive oil [Applause] sir the code elusive y'all get coated the full olive oil so the cook is all all the leaves are soft for five minutes so that's how you cook stinging nettles a fun family treat my name is Rob Barret you love some cooking for dads cook well it's worth it amazingly good you
