hi Dave of tips and techniques by Cooper steelworks and this this time around showing you the angle rail bolt the ankle rail bolt is perfect for the connection of handrail to Newell in all postal posts application in the package is the bolt patented get and drilling and cutting guide template now you know a little later on you're going to see a drilling guide that we sell also that can be used for part of the application after you determine the height of the rail you're going to mock the center of the newel I'm going to draw a center line down as a guide you know locate where the bolt will be going into the newel measure down mock that so you get that perfect Center your three drill bits you need is quarter inch 3/8 and 1 inch paddle bit I'm starting off with a quarter inch and I'm going to drill a hole to accept the lag end of the bolt about two and a half to three inches in and now except the whole thing a tip would be in hardwood maple oak to ring that hole a little bit for ease of installation another tip would be I'm taking double waxey a rot wax ring commonly found hardware store put a little bit of wax on the tip of the log in and I'm going to stop that in again I'm going to twist that in it goes in pretty easily by hand using the machine end of that bolt as a handle with twisting and certainly the the wax of grease makes it a little easier another tip is to get a small tube you know pipe slip it over the end and it gives you a little bit more leverage to tighten in that bolt you know it just makes it a little easier and that too protects the machine-man so it doesn't get damaged you want to once you screw it in place you want to make sure the hinge pin is right in line with the face of nool I'm going to show that a little closer right now right here is where that pin should be right a face of nool that's it that's the location for your angle Boult and you got that machine screw sticking out next step is to find the center of the rail mock that draw a line and you know you can either use the measurements in the template that come with the bolt or you know the drill guide I mentioned is right there we use in other applications I'm going to use part of it I'm changing a bit now from quarter inch to 3/8 I'm going to take the drill guide line it up it's perfect for showing it you know in holes in the end grain perpendicular to rail wind up the windows listen now go as deep as I can cleaning away I know I'm going to mock that you look on the template you'll see an eighth inch in from the end and now this one's a little different you go two and a half inches up and that's going to be the center of your one inch hole I'm going to set my miter box at 34 degrees because that's what this application is in this case and I'm going to cut right on that eighth inch I'm going to cut that 1812 I'm going to reintroduce that 3/8 drill onto the rail using the hole that we've already drilled as a guide to go a little bit deeper so the whole holes deep enough to accept the machine then I'm switching over to the 1 inch paddle bit and I'm going to drill out for the the gear head going down it's you know most of the way now I can drill down at least a couple of inches you're going to change over to the 5 millimeter bit put the patented gear head on the end of the shaft which pretty much holds on by itself you put glue on the cut glue on the newel slide the rail over into place the get head balance is right on the tip slide that over onto the shaft using power tighten that all the way down till it's nice and tight and you can see what a great fit you have right up against a goal and it's good and strong you put that 1 inch plug at the bottom covering that hole and you're done so the angles that bolt is available in a single pack or the new twin pack that has a driver and the two wood plugs that you need let's not forget the original zip rail bolt the new slip fix the drill guide and of course super UT no fastener thanks much for more videos coming your way
