hey viewers check this bike out it's a woman's Gary Fisher mountain bike I picked this up at a yard sale couple weekends ago and there's a few different things I'm going to do on this so I'll probably a couple videos out here but what I'm gonna do today is it's kind of a suspension seatpost here you know so it's like a little shock absorber built into the seat post here and so what I'm gonna do is take this apart clean it lube it and put it back on sometimes these things look get squeaky then they've been in there they'll kind of dry out a little bit side they've come a little bit squeaky in there this one's actually pretty good but anyway it's a good example to show you how to take them apart clean them and live them I'm gonna start off by removing the seat here just loosening these here just get the seat off just make it a little easier to work on like that okay then on the bottom here there's like a little hex fitting on there there's a damper so what you can do is if you want to make the seat post stiffer you can tighten this in if you want to have it a little bit softer you can move it out this is a this one it's a six millimeter hex so I'm just go ahead and remove this that and I pull this stuff out and then there's a spring in here little sitting here like that and not sure what brand this is says postmodern I'm not sure if that's the brand there but most of these seat posts are very similar in what's inside them it's pretty much just a spring in here now at this point you can almost just Lube this stuff up and put it back in there is another part down in here and I'm gonna go ahead and pull this part out here or try I've actually worked on one that was so corroded inside that the little nut and their little screw in there was stripped out okay now I want to remove this little hex nut in the bottom of this seat tube seat post here that will allow me to remove this top part off so I have I'm going to use a four millimeter hex socket on an extension and depending on the seat post it may be a different size down there might be like five or six or something but I can reach down in there and this locks in so I can fit my ratchet wrench onto here like this and to hold it to keep it from turning on the other side I'm going to use an adjustable wrench to kind of grab on to here and hold it like this keep that from turning over there and then I'm gonna unscrew that and OOP it broke loose pretty easily so on this screw this and there's that and then I can pull this out like that and so now it's all apart like that now to lubricate this up I'm going to use something called slick Oleum this is actually designed for shox and other type stuff they won't it affect oring x' and plastics so it's also sold under the name slick honey you can buy this online you might be able to find slick honey it's your local bike shop anyway so I'm gonna go ahead and use some of this and I'm start off by lubricating this part here just put a little bit on all the surfaces here so like slide nice and well and then I can slide this into here like this that allow it to slide nice and smoothly like that and then I want to go ahead and put this part back on here like this this little screw so I'll fit this in here like this Beach this in and try to get that all locked in and screw that in and then use my ratchet wrench here to tighten it in and again I can use my adjustable wrench over on the flat part here like this and then get it nice and tight in there like that then I can grease up the spring here and get it all nice and lubricated in here like this slide this down into here like this now I've got this part here and I get this all lubricated as well like this this slides right in here like this and then I've got this part here and I just thread this in oops like this and then set that to house tip you all want the seatpost to be there just remount the seat on there remount this into the bike frame and you're all set this should last for quite a while it's all nice and lubed up well I got the seat post remounted on the bike and it works nice and smoothly but it works pretty well to begin with but that's how to take apart clean lube and reassemble a suspension seatpost most of the suspension seatpost that you'll see are very similar to this they might be slight differences but they're they're pretty similar I didn't really have to clean it it was pretty clean in there to begin with but if you get in there it's kind of dirty just go ahead and clean the parts with your favorite citrus degreaser or whatever and clean it out there and then just be sure to remove it before you put it back together anyway I hope you found this video useful or interesting if you did please click the like button and I really appreciate
