[Music] screws how do you choose there are so many of these things let's dive into the huge world of screws and figure out which is best for your DIY project before you begin there are lots of Drive types so make sure you're using a screwdriver or drill that has the right drive for your screw head Phillips and Flathead are still the most common but you'll still see Square Drive hex and torques or star bit screws screws are made to work with different materials so we want to find the right screw for the material we're using wood screws are used for attaching wood to wood this is really handy for a lot of DIY projects like building a farmhouse table they have coarse threads with sharp points and work great for non-structural wood projects for building projects you can use structural wood screws instead very similar but they're much stronger with an unthreaded shaft at the top deck screws are designed for you guessed it decks these are similar to regular wood screws but come in several materials and can be used for fencing and other outdoor projects lag screws have a hex head and are used for fastening heavy materials or pieces that handle large loads you'll need a wrench or socket to install these by the way screws can handle more than just wood projects there are lots of types for other applications as well one common style is sheet metal screws the sharp threads go all the way up and they are used for fastening sheet metal to itself or other soft materials machine screws can secure other metal components together and sometimes you will see these with a socket cap this will require a wrench or socket to install and you'll notice that they don't have a sharp tip so you'll need a pilot hole or a nut with these screws drywall screws have deeper threads than normal screws and a flared bugle head designed to attach the drywall to the studs securely concrete screws are used for concrete brick and other masonry applications most screws are metal which can corrode in wet applications so if you're working on an outdoor project be sure your screws have a corrosion resistant coating or plating whenever you're installing a screw ensure that you have the right length of screw for your job measure your work piece and be sure that your screw will get a good grip into the material without sticking out the other side so now that you pick the right screw your job should be done in no time leave a comment below on any topics you'd like for us to cover head over to lowes.com to learn more and like And subscribe for more great DIY tips [Music] foreign
