hey there this is leo with remodeling calculator and uh we are inside ms international warehouse where there is a huge selection of granite marble quartz and uh soapstone many other types of countertops etc and so i want to make this video about how to choose a countertop and how to get pricing on them so basically when you go to a granite shop um they'll show you a few samples that are like six by six inches sometimes of 12 by 12 inches but you don't really know what the actual stone will look like so uh if you want to know exactly what you are getting you they will usually send you to a big supplier that uh actually sells them the stones and uh the fabricator on your company that will install your countertops they're the fabricators so they will then price it for you uh so that's what we are doing we came to msi and uh we are looking at stones and uh right now we are leaning toward this stone right here that's why i started the video with it so it's a beautiful stone and uh i don't think it was actually among the samples but are fabricated but even if it was you would probably see a little square like this from which you cannot tell anything about the stone but when you go to the supplier you can see how beautiful it is and that also so we found another stone that we like but it has a defect so let me show you and while i'm walking there i'll talk so yeah um basically you want to go to the supplier and see what you're actually getting unless you're okay with getting whatever looks like the sample you chose but if you're picky and very particular about what you want to get it's best to go to the supplier and choose the stone so we also like this one it's really white color granite but the problem with it has this line on it and it's it's kind of you can't clean it off so it's defect so and uh we wanted to get this phone but that defect might be a problem so we want to talk to our fabricator if they can work around it and make pieces that uh will not show that line when they actually make our countertops now as far as pricing so uh for example this stone it's pretty beautiful but it's not it's not the cheapest one but also not very expensive this is 45 dollars per square foot installed and the one that i started with it's uh the least price on that was 69 but uh when we called to get pricing so you go to the supplier you choose the stones you like you write down the colors and you call yours your fabricator to get the actual pricing the supplier in this case msi does not give you pricing they only sell wholesale they don't sell to the consumers and i mean what would you do with the slabs granite anyway so we called our supplier and they said regular price on this one the tuna per door was 69 per square foot but they would do it for 60 dollars which is actually pretty nice because when you go to uh you go to granite shops and uh and i mean fabricators the guys that actually do install your granites you see prices on cars that like exceed hundred dollars or around hundred dollars per square foot when you go to home depot you see this ugly granite pieces that are like you know start at 59 like something like this this is a very basic color and the granite the price goes up the smaller the grain the cheaper is the stone itself so when you have a pretty good uh a pretty good uh you know we have these long lines big pieces of the same color then the price goes up and when you have something like this there's just a bunch of small grains then the price goes down but even something like that at home depot it starts around 49 50 bucks per square foot and you never get to see the stone that you're getting so you see the small sample at this little corner here at the store and you say okay i chose this color and that's what you get you don't know the stone that you will get whereas if you go to a supplier like this one you get to see the stones you get to pick one then if you like the song and you're ready to get it they tag it for you they put your name on it and hold it in this case for a week so during this week you have enough time to talk to your fabricator to put a deposit on it and then fabricator buys the stone and uh from there they go on to measure your kitchen and then install your countertops so that's how the pricing or that's how the process of selecting granite or marble or even quartz countertops works and actually this is a recommended method because if you don't see the stone you get don't be surprised when you get something that you don't like because it's uh even like the same color stones that one with the line that i showed you river white thus stones from a different batch of the same color they're completely different they're much more purple and uh they don't look anything like the one that i showed you with the line of the defect so yeah when if you want to get a specific stone a specific color in combination go to the go to your fabricator and they will send you to their supplier where you can choose the stone and this way you can actually get even a better pricing like i said that color that we want it was listed for 69 so probably never even look at it but here we liked it we called it in and they told us it's 60 dollars per square foot which is pretty good it's a very special color and i like it a lot all right so thanks for watching this was leo with the modeling calculator i am making this video inside msi warehouse and uh please like the video if you enjoyed it subscribe to my channel and i'll see you in the next one when it will actually be building the counter tops installing the countertops as well as kitchen cabinets alright see ya
