got my daughter's lexus here i'm gonna do uh um do a little drain and fill in the i like to do this pretty much maybe every second or third time i do an oil change um it's so easy i mean these cars actually have a filter um you know maybe every hundred change out the filter but i like keeping the fluid clean i mean you gotta get a bunch of people that'll say you change your fluid it'll blow they're full of crap i've built i've worked on the only time that's even a thing if somebody doesn't maintain their and it's so dirty that the fluid is built up varnish and gum inside that and then you change the fluid what's likely to happen is that um you know fluid is very it's high detergent so it will clean all that stuff out and it kind of break breaks loose all that crap off the the walls of the and all the parts and it can plug the filter it can get in the valve body um you know once you get any contaminants in the valve body just wreaks havoc on the transmission so that's the only time other than that keep your transmission maintained keep the fluid clean if it doesn't look pink change it it should look pink all the time especially if you're towing do it more often than recommended a lot of cars like this car is recommended under normal service to never be changed i disagree it's not it's not that much money um this car's got 250 000 on it and it runs and shifts like it's new and i kid you not if you drove this and it didn't have an odometer in it and you had to guess how many miles this had on it you you wouldn't know if it had 30 50 80 100 200 you wouldn't know it's that nice so keep your transmission fluid change i'm going to show you real quick how to do at least on a toyota and a lot of newer cars without dipsticks are like this so this is really the whole thing um doing a quick you know transmission fluid change on a car without a dipstick not as difficult as you think i have tools here that really work for the job so you may not have these tools but you can still manage to do it so it's really not that bad one of the first things i always do whether it's got a dipstick or not measure the fluid measure how much comes out even if it's got a dipstick you've got to have a starting point you don't want to under fill you don't want to overfill um you know just do the job right and and measure and you're freaking golden right there there's a chairmanship pan there's the the drain bolt i mean look at this car 250 000 it doesn't have a bit of oil leaks on it i mean especially for a new york car too this frame is in really nice shape the unibody the sub the subframe the exhaust everything this car is just it's a really nice car i would not be afraid of a high mileage you know toyota or lexus especially especially if it's been taken care of i mean they just they just go so anyway back to the uh the main subject here we're gonna take out that drain plug right there but i'm gonna show you there's a little there's a little kicker so this is a six millimeter on a toyota so you're gonna get you're gonna get some fluid coming out of there because the engine's not running this is only gonna drip out a little bit inside here there's another this is the actual dipstick this is also a six millimeter see that thing pretty easy to figure out that's basically the height of the transmission fluid in this transmission while it's running if you look right there that's how high that fluid level is going to be up when it's running so you take that little bugger out and then all the fluid will drain out of that pan you can see i don't know if you could see that or not but that fluid is pretty clean let me get the light going here you can see through that fluid it's got a little brownish tint but it's pretty clean i want it cleaner than that i'm going to do this drain state it's slowing down that's probably about two and a half three quarts that's usually what you get out of this thing on a drain and fill so once that's done draining i'll put that dipstick back in and we'll cap it and i'll show you how to fill it all right it's pretty much all done drip drip drip so i'm gonna take the dipstick and put it back in the transmission you really don't want to use a wrench for this or a ratchet you can you just have to have a good feel it's only plastic you don't want to strip it now i can get this thing out of my way oh she's not gonna drip no more so just use something you know how to feel for it use something you can feel the plastic you'll be able to feel it when it bottoms right there click done that's it we'll stick that drain bolt back in give it a little tighten nice nice done can't really get any easier than that i'll show you how to fill it now all right let's get going this thing sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do all right i'm gonna show you right here obviously it's a little easier for me but because i'm under a lift but a couple little a couple little ten mil skis right up here and then it'll expose the transmission fill [Music] like cake cake walk click see that you get that little shroud right out of the way you can see right there it's a 24 millimeter we're going to pop that and we're going to pump in the measured amount of transmission fluid just in case you don't get a 24 millimeter socket or wrench i lived through the days of the conversion from american to metric so look at that that's like glass 15 16. just almost identical to a 24 millimeter so you can use that little trick of the trade now i highly recommend using especially for a lot of imports use original equipment transmission fluid um for this one toyota ws original equipment just use the right stuff don't use aftermarket stuff there's my fluid filling device i filled that up with the churny fluid to correct them out three quarts that's what it looks like it's just a pressurized vessel that pumps the fluid up makes it makes life nice nice and easy i did a little cheat to it though they want you to pump that thing by hand it takes for freaking ever so you know what i do i put a valve stem in that little valve stoma stuck in there click i wasn't gonna do it the freaking hard way you kidding me look at that pump that baby up to about 25 psi perfect [Music] now let's let it fly up in here up in here like that turn that valve click let her go she's all done he's all pumped in there let's cap it off stick that guard back up in there like this a little ten mil ski just so you know there's no standard conversion for a 10 millimeter you got a 3 8 it's a little smaller you got a 7 16 just a little bigger so you crap out of luck with that you better have a 10 mil just like that click let's give this thing a startup there she goes i'm going to let her run for a little bit look at the mileage on it 250 000. this thing runs like a clock just such a good car such a well-built car and not because it's a lexus because it's a toyota when you get a toyota avalon basically the same car as this um just freaking bulletproof man so now we got the car running we're gonna pull the drain plug out okay we're gonna let that drip until it stops until it starts to just trickle i always put a little extra in there and only about two and three quarter quart came out i put about three three and a quarter [Applause] so we're gonna let this fluid come down until it's at the top of that fill tube or drain tube i should call it um and then that will be at the right height now technically what you're supposed to do when it stops you cap it take it for a rod get the transmission up to running temperature then do it again because tremendous fluid will expand as it gets hot so the fluid level will raise that's why a lot of the old dipsticks had a hot and a cold mark because it definitely will raise it expands so you'll get the critical um measurement you're going to want to run it get it to running temperature make sure the tranny's up to at least 150 degrees pull that back out and you're gonna see a little more come out and that'll be your operating temperature transmission fluid level so there it goes it's pretty much trickled right off we're gonna cap that up tighten her up we're good to go all right gonna put this baby down she's done take her home go home for the night see you later [Music] if you like this channel and my content please subscribe also click the
