hey salesforce friends and welcome back to the channel in the video today we're going to be exploring why you need to be learning how to do salesforce flows how to use them how to build them and you need to be doing that now we'll also be exploring how salesforce are kind of changing the role of the salesforce administrator whether you want to or not if you want to kind of progress your career in salesforce you're going to be doing a bit more developer things you could becoming a bit more of a developer in general rather than just an administrator but that's a good thing because you're going to increase your skill set and you know what salesforce are going to make it super easy for you they're going to empower you with the tools to automate things and be able to become effectively a developer in salesforce without having to know how to code that is the key thing and that was also how i've become so successful as well because i do not code but i've been doing this for a long time and i've done all right and just a quick little note this video is being sponsored by talent stacker talent stacker is a fantastic community of people and a business that's able to get you on a program and a fast track to getting your first salesforce certification in administration so whether you had never heard of salesforce i probably don't know why you're looking at this video but if you not in salesforce yet and you want to become an administrator or you're already in salesforce and you want to progress your career even further then check out talent stacker there's a link in the description that will take you to a five-day challenge to very quickly um getting up to speed on your path and your career path into salesforce and you can also sign up and continue with talent stacker and which is the best thing about it the big community of people all around the world and that are doing the same as you and community learning is the best thing you'll meet some fantastic people that are on the same journey as you so yeah check it out talent stacker um that's sponsoring this video uh link is below and in fact with talent stacker i'll be doing a little q a video uh with uh bradley bradley rice who runs sound stacker so check that out end of october um and yeah if you've signed up then you should get details about all of that in any case let's look now at what we're talking about here why do you need to learn how to use salesforce flows let's have a look [Music] okay so first things first if you don't know what salesforce flows is check out the videos that i've got up in the cards up here um or look at my channel for some other um videos around flows the one i've got up here is an introduction to salesforce flows essentially it's an automation tool the ability to do business processes um without having to manually do it with clicks on the screen but yeah it's a tool an automation tool effectively for everyone else who does know or if you want to check that video out later um here's here's the crux of it so why is it important that you need to learn salesforce flows well the first real reason is because of career progression now if you are an administrator and i mean you could be a developer already but if you're in salesforce already and you know you're doing good you're ticking along and you do not want to go anywhere you want to just stay where you are and just do nothing but just the admin stuff i still feel that you're going to be stuck and you're going to have to learn flows if you however have the a little bit of ambition and maybe you don't want to just sit around and just reset user passwords all the time and do reports and you want to you want to progress your career you want to earn more money you want to have more responsibility you want to make more of an impact in the business that you're in well if that's the case you're going to have to learn salesforce floors there's no two ways about it and the reason for that is because way a lot of us start out on where i started out i started as an administrator and that's where you learn the basics of salesforce and there's a lot you can do there's a lot that you can offer the business um by being an administrator and the knowledge that you have but where do you go from being an administrator in salesforce well it's going to be difficult to go to different areas without also having a bit of development experience and the thing that scares a lot of people and it scared me is developer i'm not a developer i don't know code that's okay i never knew code i knew bits and bobs of html and stuff but enough probably the same as what a lot of people do here or that you couldn't google in about two seconds so i'm not a coder never have been but as an administrator progressing into a bit of a developer role is going to be naturally is going to naturally have to happen anyway because even if there's already development in the system there's going to be a need there's going to be an ask of you as an administrator to automate a process is there any way that we can make this process a bit easier do we have to click this and click that and click this and by learning salesforce flows not only will you be able to say oh yes there is an ability for me to automate this or in conversations in meetings you can actually come up with ideas to help streamline the business but you'll also be able to actually execute it so the business won't have to go out and buy a developer and go oh that's going to be expensive you know it's like it's like when your boiler breaks down or your car breaks down you've got to go get a specialist who knows how to tinker with it well you don't if you're not using code if you're not using apex and with salesforce flows you can do a lot of process automation in fact you probably do it all if you're thinking about career progression that is going to be the natural path for you to move next onto to be what i call a functional developer i think salesforce call it a platform developer for stockholm developer in the sense that you are not using code but you're using the tools the declarative declarative tools um that are in there in other words clicks not code do you know what salesforce are making it a lot easier for you as well because there's going to be lot there's lots of tutorials there's trailhead uh modules that you can see again if you don't know what trailhead is look in the description you can sign up for free and do some modules and there's also videos that like i do um like i've said i've got a len the basics about flows so i've got all those videos there and there's lots of great other content that you can find out about how to learn to use flows and build them yourselves so that's good and final thing i'll say on the career progression path thing is that yes if you're starting out with an administrator you're getting foundational knowledge about sharing rules about the objects about fields field level security and all of these things that will help build a picture of how salesforce works and how you can kind of make it relevant to the business which is the key thing that's the secret source is you being able to tie together the technicalities of salesforce what it can do and how you do it with the needs of the business which is essentially me saying well the career path that i see a lot of people that will get they'll go on to become more successful in salesforce and you know increase their and revenue their salaries and and where they want to go in life with it is from an administrator developer is the next thing like i said and this was in my experience as well is into a consultant so as a sales force consultant you're kind of at that tier where you're actually engaging more with the business um or other businesses and other clients if you're working for a consultancy where you're basically taking on board exactly what they do as a business and you're kind of analyzing all of that as well as the needs and their ambitions about where they want to go with the business and they happen to have salesforce and then apply all of that business knowledge um and findings through being a business analyst then applying that to the salesforce system and by having that administrator foundation you know kind of not just the basics but the foundation of salesforce itself you also have been on the client side so you know in other words you've worked for someone who a business that has salesforce so you know some of the challenges internally and the politics and the because again it's people you know in businesses and then you're also learning how to develop it so you know even though you might not be the most technical person as i'm not you know enough about the technicalities about what's achievable and what isn't and where essentially flows is pretty much where we can't go anymore with flows it we needed a coder maybe you're developing a website and you've got the templates there using communities or salesforce experience but yeah they want to customize it so much more to time with their brand we need a css or a web developer in order to finish that bit off so those are the types of knowledge that you'll get over time but that's where i see you also if you want to progressing onto administrator developer platform or functional developer and then on to a consultant and consultant seems like a million miles away but actually a lot of the skills that you're doing as an administrator is and as a developer and that's why the developer is important is to be a good developer and a good administrator you've got to learn about the business learn about the people and kind of translate those needs and those requirements into action into actual uh development into an actual finished solution in salesforce and then from there once you've got that consultative experience obviously on the foundation and the development and the administration that you've had um then you can go any sort of direction you could be a solution architect kind of more functional side you could be a technical architect if you do love the technical side and want to learn coding or want to learn more you don't even need to be coding you could be more like um you know different technologies that are outside of salesforce and learn more about those so yeah there's lots of paths available but for me that is kind of like the start of the path for a lot of people and will actually make you a good solution architect or wherever it is that you want to go uh or senior consultant and the best ones have got that kind of basis that knowledge that experience from the beginning the second and huge reason why you should be letting salesforce uh flows is because that eventually soon will be the only tool that you can use to automate business processes in salesforce right okay not the only tool approvals approval flows will still be relevant okay those still that still will be about for quite a long time salesforce flows however for for in terms of being able to do lots of other business processes apart from um doing the approvals will be the only tool in salesforce you'll still have apex so you'll still have the need for you know clever coders that could do clever things but for everything that you don't want to do with code salesforce flow will be it and you may be asking well wait a minute what about process builder what about workflow rules those ain't gonna be here anymore now i've done another video where in the early days where i talked about the difference between workflow rules process builder and salesforce flows and in that video i did predict that you shouldn't probably be maybe thinking about salesforce flows more because as time goes by and has it has it has gone by um they've actually improved the usability and relevance and features within salesforce flows and therefore they have announced and this is official now that in the last in this dreamforce 21 they've announced that they are going to be moving away from process builder and workflow rules and in order to do that they're actually going to be launching some migration tools so in spring 22 they're going to be launching a migration tool for workflow rules so if you aren't going to be doing it anyway they're going to be like well yes you could do it now and i recommend you start doing it now um but if you need help we're going to do it we're going to give you a migration tool then the next release the summer 22 they're going to be launching another migration tool but this time for process builder and process builder at flows and flows process builder automations so once they've done that migration tool straight away they're going to be doing the migration tool for process builder and again they're kind of saying you know here's a tool now there's no excuses move all of these away into flow and convert them into flow um and then winter 23 so the year after albeit but you've only got a year to move all of those across into flow because then you are they're not going to be allowing you to create new workflow rules and new process builder and automation processes now yes winter 23 might seem far away but you won't be able to create any new ones i think you'll still be able to edit existing ones potentially but i think quite soon after winter 23 so kind of spring maybe summer and and even before then they're going to be announcing that hey you're going to kind of need to you know move them across properly because we're going to turn them off however i don't think they'll switch it off completely straight away because there'll be a lot of people like yourselves that are watching this that your org is on classic and i'm working with some big clients at the moment who have still got classic classic salesforce ui in any case it could take a while for a lot of businesses so they won't be turning off straight away so there you have it those are my main thoughts about why you should be using salesforce flows and do you know what i mean we're talking a lot of you'll be watching this because you're interested in why that is an important topic but like i said about the career path thing if you are starting out in salesforce or you're kind of wanting you're not even in salesforce but you want to kind of you're interested in moving over into it or you could be in salesforce and you need some help to kind of get your certification do you know what the best way to do it is is to do it with other people that is learning salesforce i'm going to be putting a link in the description please go down and check it out click on that link and it'll take you to this screen where you'll be able to sign up for free to join a challenge it's a five-day salesforce challenge where you'll be able to learn about how very quickly again five days how to kind of get on the path to achieving your certification and progressing further on from that as well it's a really fantastic um thing there you go the link's there click on it now sign up and you can get some information and um yeah it's brilliant a final thing i would say is that if you do uh go down the talent stackaroo i will be doing a special video a q a session uh at the end of october so please do check that out you'll be able to get details if you sign up to talent stacker and then you'll be able to kind of check that out if you're part of one of their members program group um so yeah fantastic check it out hopefully you'll maybe learn a little bit more about me or about certain things about salesforce or my experience about getting to where i am now even with this channel um but until then until the next time hopefully and i'm sure you are living happy productive salesforce lives but always remember at the salesforce be with you
