how do [Music] hi I'm Chris welcome to kink the support creations outdoors we're gonna build a deck in today and later on we're going to put a fort on top of that child's fort which is gonna be great ask a separate video but today we're gonna do some decking beautiful British weather hitch chucking it down so the first thing is just to prep the ground get rid of the grass that's in there and let's tackle it let's go [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] right so now it stopped raining we're gonna put some fabric down to stop the weeds going back through again make sure nothing [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] now with a small deck int I always like to lay the flanks out so I can cut the beam to size that way you might not have to cut a deck in plank all the way down the middle [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you say that it's nice [Music] soaked in its come to win [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hey morning we got rained off yesterday so we're gonna try again today it's a little bit windier but at least it's dry so let's crack on so here's a really good trick to get square to make sure this is a 90 degree square you don't the workshop set squares aren't gonna be anything like big enough so here's a good mathematical trick if you measure from the corner I remember three four five so one side needs to come down to three foot that black length measure four foot and when we go diagonally across from that back to here we end up with five foot that worked in feet inches meters centimeters just remember three four five and you'll get a perfect square so the next thing once you finish the frame is to get its out on some posts to make sure it's all nice and level I think the wood isn't sound the floor all the time I'm tending to put some blocks underneath just to make sure that's the woods against not just sat on soil all the time usually when you do a decade it's quite often up against a building so I'd screw one of the posts into that building if you've got one here it's just a small freestanding deck so I'm going to make sure that the posts that are going around the edge especially the corners are concreted in just to stop it from moving sideways at all just a penny in to make sure it doesn't move another tip when you're kneeling into here make sure you're not resting on the decking as you kneel into the post it's what we'll do there is the decking will flex very slightly and when you stand up this post isn't sat on that floor anymore so here we are we come back the concrete set overnight making sure that as you go through that you can walk on the planks very carefully and that there's no flex anywhere if you found flex in any of the beams put an extra post in and make sure it's all set and stable the next thing is to put the decking on the top tip before screwing in the ends of the planks I like to use a little countersink bit that just stops these sections here from splitting off which is very easy to do if we just go straight in with the screws [Music] so sometimes you'll get slightly bored bored so I've pinned it in at one end and you can see it's missing at the other make sure that you've just done the ends first because this can happen quite a lot so it's just a matter of pushing that in and screwing it down if you find the pause so big that you can't push it get a spirit or some kind of lever on there and really pin it [Music] so there we go one finished decade [Music] you
