Everything is easier when the hole is 1.75 trailer widths and 100 ft of room in front.

Never been anywhere that had that much room.

A 45Β° back is 90% of the time easier than a 90Β° back

Nice! I never thought about what I was doing, just done it so many times over the years that it’s automatic. It would have been nice to have it explained like this way back when I was learning

When the dude stopped and got out of the truck when he was 150 away from that spot, honestly, I'd have no idea wtf he was doing and I'd probably be in that spot by the time he got done walking around his truck.

[Music] today we're going to talk about backing we're going to do the classic 45 but we're also going to show you how to modify that a little bit in case you have limited room forward of you so today herb's going to be moving down parallel to the hole our hole is right here he's going to stop about halfway to the hole he's going to observe the hole check it out make sure there's no obstacles or anything that could interfere and then he's going to drive forward until his left shoulder is about halfway down the next trailer then he's going to start out going to 12 noon and then he's going to cut it back hard to nine o'clock now if this was limited forward room instead of going to 12 only go to about 10 30 and then start coming back to the nine and that'll give you more forward room so we're going to get herb going here and again he's creeping he's not going fast that's important you want to stay somewhat close to the hole you don't want to be 20 30 feet out from the hole and what he's going to do is get about halfway into the hole and he's going to stop and now you can see he's observing what's going on behind him any obstacles there he's looking for the other side seeing obstacles there now what he's going to do is he's going to go to his mark up here and begin his turn to 12 o'clock so when his left shoulder gets halfway to the trailer middle of the trailer which it is now see starting a hard hard right he's going to hold that hard right until the tractor comes to the 12 o'clock position now he's hard left coming back to the 9 o'clock position when the tractor comes to the nine o'clock position you're gonna see him straighten out his wheels and come to a stop okay so now we're gonna get out we're gonna walk around the trailer checking for obstacles on all sides of us to the left to the right up down behind us forward everything you just never know what you're going to run into so we go all the way around this is called the blind side when you're on the passenger side of the trailer this is the blind side this is where bad things happen so when you get out to look make sure you make a full walk around don't just walk where you can see walk all the way around it's really going to save you a lot of time and aggravation he's going to put his seat belt back on you notice his four ways are engaged he's going to tap the horn so now he's going backwards now he's at idle he's just taking it easy notice the steer tires are straight he's not turning them yet notice how the tractor is starting to angle the front of the trailer back and the back of the trailer is starting to turn in so now you see at this point he's going to start coming left with his steer tire so he's turning left see the trailer is starting to back in now starting to go back in he's hard left right now but one thing we noticed there see he's coming in too deep he's going to be hitting that trailer if he kept going back so now he's going to pull forward wheels to the hard right and again just that idle he's going to go to the hard right and then he straightens it out and he looks behind him and he's got a real nice angle going back so again you're just turning the steer tire to drive the trailer tandems into the holes and you see now they're going in if you notice the steer he's not turning the wheel crazy don't turn the wheel crazy a little bit here a little bit there and now he's angling in you'll see him start coming back with the wheel to the left so now he's straight with his tractor and his trailer and you can see him going into the hole again at idle and you see he's in the hole he's backing up to the front of the trailers even with the brown drill next to them and that back is complete so today we learned about the classic 45 degree angle back we also showed you how to handle if you're limited to your forward room if you have questions on any other backs and there are many there's the 90 there's just a number of other backs straight backs and so forth that are available to you if you got questions on any of those backs speak with your leader and as always if you're looking for a job come see us at schneider one eight hundred four four pride schneiderjobs.com thank you
