well folks you've seen me mounting the scope on these new rifles that how I sent me and there's one thing that very often happens when people are trying to get the maximum amount of a high relief and what I mean by that is you you don't want to have to lean way forward when you're shooting so most people myself included I get my best ira leaf as the scope does move further back towards my eye I want it so that when I bring my rifle up and I'm in my natural position that I have the full field view in my scope you bring it up and in your natural position you don't want any of the view in the scope to be blocked out sometimes people have their eye relief set from so they have to go way forward to get it well I'll tell you get those scope rings over your eye I'm always trying to get the maximum amount of eye relief in my natural position what ends up happening is when I slide it back that far I've used medium rings so you can get low medium high and extra high well I also like my scope to be as low as possible because I don't have a lot of cheek so I'm pretty low when I'm in my natural position so if I use super high rings then I'm having to lift my chin I'll just do it this way if this is my rifle and this is my stock end up having to put my cheek higher than is my natural position so I like it to be as low as possible but right here what I'm putting on here is a vx6 it's a 50 millimeter so with a 50 millimeter I have a bigger bail out on the end and I through these medium rings on there just for illustration purposes because I knew this was going to happen what happened when I slowed it back to where my maximum eye relief is at now you can see that I take a piece of paper and I can't slide it between the rifle barrel and the bell of the scope that means the bellow my scope is sitting on the rifle barrel not what you want to make that work with these lower rings I'd have to move this scope way forward which isn't the end of the world other than now I've lost my fall I relief in my natural shooting position so what I'm gonna do to correct that I'm gonna take the next level of rings these are mediums I'm gonna put highs it's gonna allow me to slide my scope as far back as possible for the maximum eye relief and still have clearance right here between the Bell of the scope and the barrel if you're mounting your own scope really think this through in most instances if you're using something that's 50 millimeter or larger objective lens you're probably going to need high or extra high rings to get the clearance here between the belly your scope and the barrel now just a little piece I thought I'd throw out there I've seen it enough times I've watched people out at the range struggle with point of impact moving all over I'm gonna go and look at their set up their barrel is touching their scope you're just you're not gonna have consistency at that point so what I'm gonna do here I'm gonna take these rings off these mediums so I'm gonna put high is on there and slide it back get my maximum my relief and this 300 Win Mag this brand new house that they sent me we're gonna be set to go because elk season is coming up soon thank you for watching
