what's up geniuses my name is adriel vero and welcome back to the channel where we learn to show your genius now you can see i'm not in my usual setup i am at my girlfriend's house in iowa so if you see some cats walking around it's normal so today i'm going to be showing you how to auto-tune in fl studio and the way we're going to be doing it is through new tone just to give you a quick example this is how i sound like un-auto-tuned which by the way i exaggerated on this i don't actually sing this bad and here's how i sound like with auto-tune so this is a really quick and super simple method however i am giving this information to you for free in fact i give a lot of tutorials out for free youtube adsense isn't the most reliable source of income one day could be doing really good and then the next day i could be making nothing so if you want to help support me and the channel feel free to join my patreon down below if you become a patreon you'll get exclusive bonuses that nobody else gets plus i am in the process of making a studio and everybody that becomes a patron will get their name engraved on the plaque that'll hang up in the studio at all times so you'll always be in my videos so feel free to join my patreon down below patreon.com let's get into this tutorial so when i say auto-tune i don't necessarily mean legit auto-tune auto-tune is a plug-in which you can purchase and get however there's many different ways to get that auto-tuned sound but in general what autotune is is just pitch correction pitch correction is getting the pitch of something and correcting it so that is actually on the proper pitch it's supposed to be on auto tune is pitch correction just automatic we're going to be using fl studio's plug-in new tone this is what i always use for my pitch correction and that's how i always get my vocals to sound on pitch however there's another way to do it automatically so it's more like auto-tune this method uses one of fl studio's other plugins called pitcher however i find the first method that i'm going to be talking about that uses new tone the best way to pitch correct and get that auto-tuned sound so first things first what you're going to want to do is open up your mixer channel go over to your effect slot and put in new tone after you have new tone you're going to want to open it up get your vocal click it and drag it into new tone as you can see what it's done is that it's detected the pitch regions of our audio sample and has placed every single pitch onto the piano roll to make it correspond with the proper pitch you would see on a piano as you can see the pitches are all over the place i sang a major scale however this is not in tune with a major scale so the first thing that i always do when pitch correcting is going to the center knob and bringing it up all the way to 100 what this center knob does is it takes every single pitch and shifts it to make sure everything is completely centered on the pitch so instead of being a couple cents off it's going to be a hundred percent on pitch now the next thing that you're going to want to mess around with is variation this variation knob affects how auto-tune it sounds whenever we sing there's variation in our voice that's why there's singers that sing with vibrato have you ever heard somebody sing with vibrato i can't do it but it's that oh sound that you usually hear opera singers sing with basically adjusting the variation is going to be amplifying that rubato or minimizing it so that there's no over bottle whatsoever that's the simplest way that i could put it but instead of explaining to you let me actually show you how it sounds like here's one part of my vocal with a variation set to the default setting if i bring the variation up whatever vibrato that was in my voice is going to be amplified even more so let's bring the variation up to 200 and then if we go the opposite direction to zero percent [Music] i think you get what i'm talking about whenever i'm doing my vocals i usually bring down the variation ever so slightly because i still want it to sound a little natural if you have it all the way down you get that t-pain sound and if that's what you're going for go ahead but for me i like to keep it a little more natural however with this instance i'm gonna make sure that i put it all the way down to zero so you can really hear the effects of pitch correction the next stop that you're gonna wanna focus on is the transition knob and if you have the transition knob set to 100 there's going to be a smooth transition between every single pitch so that it goes smoothly from one pitch to the other but if you set the transition to zero it's going to go straight from one pitch to the other it's gonna sound a little more robotic [Music] and as opposed to 100 [Music] like i said to really show you the effect of pitch correction i'm gonna bring the transition all the way down to zero so you'll really be able to tell that there's some auto-tune on there now we're not exactly done because as you can hear it's still not exactly on pitch so what you're gonna wanna do is go to each individual pitch and move it to where it belongs on the scale this is just going to take some time and for some of you that might find it difficult to find the right pitch this might take even a little more time than usual however this is just something that you have to develop an ear for music theory can help you a lot too so the best advice that i could give to you is to trust your ear so i'm going here adjust every single pitch make sure i get it to the right pitches and then i'm gonna show you how it sounds like after all right so i've pitched corrected everything and if you have a listen everything is on pitch it just took a little bit of me going through and making sure to click and drag every single individual pitch onto their proper pitches now if you're somebody that doesn't like to have that super auto-tune sound you're going to want to have the transition up and the variation up so it sounds a little more natural like this however if there's some parts that you find that the variation could be brought down a bit but you don't want to affect the entire vocal what you can do is click this gear icon which is the advanced edit tool and what this is going to do is going to allow you to adjust the variation volume and the transition of just the individual pitch itself so let's say i wanted this specific pitch to be less varied i can click the bottom drag up and you can see the variation is now set to 17 awesome and doing it this way does not affect any other pitch just that one pitch specifically so once you're done everything sounds like how you like it click this button which is the send to playlist button what that's gonna do is going to send it to your playlist and you can see down here we have our pitch corrected vocals as opposed to the old unpitched corrected vocal so in order to do the other method that i was talking about that does automatically what you're going to want to do is bring picture into your mixer now like i said this pitch correction is done automatically you don't have as much freedom to pitch correct the individual notes that you want to pitch correct so some things might not sound perfect but if you're someone that sings pretty on pitch you're just slightly off this might be a simpler method for you now when i sing this major scale i sang in b major so i want to make sure that i set the scale to major then i want to make sure that the key is in b as you can see i have picture in mixer channel one so i want to make sure that my unpitched vocal goes into mixer channel one and if i play it should be a little more in tune now as you can hear with a vocal like this it is not super on pitch it is still in the key that it's supposed to be in but because we are just so off pitch it's going to snap to the incorrect pitch that we wanted it to snap to however you can hear that it has that really strong autotune effect and if that's something that you're trying to go for but you still want to be on the proper pitches what i would recommend doing is pitch correcting in new tone first and then sending it into picture to get that auto-tuned t-pain sound effect so for example the vocal that we just pitched right now everything sounds in tune but it doesn't have that super auto-tuned sound so what we can do is put it into mixer channel one have picture on and if you give it a listen it'll sound like auto-tune t-pain perfect so this is all you really have to do to get that auto-tune or pitch correction in fl studio if you're new to the channel and want to know more about ethel studio make sure you subscribe
