hi this is chris with stupid raisins and in this video i'm going to show you how to add voice over into final cut pro uh hold up aren't you going to introduce me of course of course everyone inner voice inner voice everyone thanks for that now let's get to the good stuff couldn't have said it better myself i'm gonna share with you how to record a voiceover and import that file into final cut pro and then we're going to enhance that audio with existing audio effects built into final cut pro and then finally we're going to take a look at how to cut that clip into your timeline let's go check it out okay so we're gonna look at creating a voiceover for your video so i've got a couple clips together i've added some music i have a title it's all about creating a video but if we want a voiceover for this we're gonna have to do a little extra work now there's a couple different ways you can do this you can have some professional audio gear like i'm using here i got a rode microphone going into a zoom recorder pretty awesome setup but let's say you don't have that kind of budget maybe you don't have access to that equipment so for today's example we're gonna be using the voice memo app on the iphone all right and then we're gonna go ahead and press record so i'm just gonna say some things that have to do with our video so every video starts with an idea and then you gotta get out there and press record then you can bring your footage into your timeline and start creating your masterpiece all right little dramatic i know but i think that's gonna work then we're gonna share this to the computer all right we got that shared to our computer let's go ahead and go to import it we're gonna look at our downloads and boom we got our video voice over there let's just every video starts with there it is now what i want to show you in here is there's a couple options you can check or uncheck under analyze audio you can select fix audio problems separate mono and group stereo audio or remove silent channels so we're going to go to make sure that fixed audio problems is selected that way that final cut can analyze our audio just to make sure it sounds great it'll make some changes to help us out so import selected all right so we have that voiceover appearing right here we're going to drag that into our timeline all right so we got that clip in here now that clip is is a little long so we're going to hit shift z what shift z does is it expands your timeline to fill the whole screen alright so we're going to scrub this forward to where we started our actual voiceover every video starts with an idea all right so let's just cut out everything before that drag this over all right little dramatic i know all right we'll cut off the end all right let's clear up our workspace let's close the browser window on the left and then we're going to make sure we're in the audio inspector which is shown by the speaker icon now because we did that audio analysis at the beginning when we imported the clips it already did the uh the the analysis for us you can see that green check mark you can press this one to just automatically do that balancing but we want to do a little bit of fine tuning so let's show that so it looks like it liked everything it was hearing but if you wanted to let's say that this gotta get out there and press record let's say that this clip wasn't loud enough loudness is just like it sounds it pumps a little more power into your voice now noise if you have some noise in the background let's say there's a fan going in the background we're just gonna add just a little bit to that today hum removal if you hear a frequency in the background you can apply it here and then from here what i want to show you is a few audio effects that you can add to fill out your voice a little more so let's say your voice is a little on the higher end we can actually dive in here and go to the effects browser let's scroll down to audio we'll go to all and right here final cut has a built-in base enhancer now i put this in almost every audio clip it just adds a lot more bass to the sound of the voice so i'm going to drop that in i typically go a little lower maybe like 30 on the amount and then you got to get out there and press record just makes the voice sound just a little deeper there's one down here that i also like to use which is called the voiceover enhancement let's drag that over there and then it has a few presets and you can go with a punchy male vocal get out there and press record you can try a smooth male vocal and then you got to get out there and press record you just want to listen for whatever sounds good if you find that it sounds great without it of course you can uncheck this box or compare it's a interesting thing to note is you'll notice here when we click this on and off these waveforms change dramatically and that's exactly what's happening with these enhancements is they are adjusting and lowering raising the frequency of different parts of the audio clip now i want you to know we share new videos like this all the time to help with your final cut pro projects listen to your inner voice and subscribe to our channel and hit the bell so you get notified when we release a new video so if you like your audio edit then we're good to go we can start cutting so one thing i want you to consider is compound clips so we can take this just simply this voiceover we can right click and go to new compound clip let's name that voiceover all right with that compound clip created it has now put itself into our library let's click on the library browser and we'll see this voiceover is now its own clip so if we double click on this compound clip it now is in its own timeline so we can return to this clip any time we double click even if we cut this apart if these were not compound clips we'd have to adjust each one of these individually to make them all sound the same again but since it's a compound clip we can double click come in here make the adjustments here say we want to turn off the base enhancer we come back here and those changes take effect across all those compound clips so what's great about audio and final cut pro is you have these waveforms in fact we can accent them a little bit by clicking this icon over here and these options will change how little or how much of the waveform we want you can see those waveforms where i started speaking every video starts with an idea to where it trails off and shows that not much is happening in this section so we want to cut that back all right so what i want to do is i want to edit these down all right now that we've adjusted that over our whole timeline let's take a look at this every video starts with an idea and then you got to get out there and press record then you can bring your footage into your timeline and start creating your masterpiece so voiceover adds just that extra layer of professionalism to your videos any part of the process that i showed you today you can replace with a different type of tool and achieve the same effect in your videos and with that we've reached the end thanks for tagging along voiceovers can greatly enhance your projects speaking of that i have a free gift for you a pack of final cut pro plugins to enhance your videos and impress your clients
