[Music] in this video I show you how to achieve realism on your interior renders using twin motion and its path tracing rendering technology for me this is the best style of interior image that I I see around personally and what I mean by that is it's that lovely overcast soft shadow kind of style lighting and mood and even the coloring as well very neutral tones I really really do like this style and it's actually a little harder to achieve than you might think so what we're going to do is we're going to talk you through how to create this image quickly uh mod little using SketchUp and we're going to use twin motion to create the renders so let's jump into SketchUp to get moving and I'll see it on the other side [Music] foreign let's import into twin motion Collapse by material yeah all that looks about right let's get rid of all starting stuff now in the introduction I mentioned that it's a little harder to achieve than you might think to qualify that what I mean is sometimes takes quite a bit of tinkering to get the really nice exposure of the image combined with what is an overcast day that's often where if you're trying to strike that balance so let's just pop some basic materials on for now I will improve these using Mega scans but it's nice to just craft the scene initially that's just I won't say that the new interfaces here spot on as well mix things a lot easier yeah we have all governance certain things of the wall a little bit of light leak there but I've Tracer mountains might impact though so I believe we don't want any translucency on these curtains because they're quite solid in the shop there we go glass lots of just test that in a second in using the PATH train set sometimes it reacts differently or something generic for that platform outside on this image here by the way shout out to math dot interior as well what a lovely shot um on this image it's it's a white background anyway and and to be honest with you sometimes that does detracting quality in the image but this image is that good it doesn't so we're just going to stick to a a white background as well and then just a simple metal to the window I've matched the blinds as well so then let's move into the furniture now the two things that stand out to me that we need to get absolutely spot on or the computer and the chair obviously we've got an iMac and we've got quite a nice quite a nice modern again neutral neutral toned desk chair now twin motion has got a good inbuilt library and it comes with sketchfab and in my video about what's the best rendering engine I Do cover all this but if I can be completely honest if I'm going for absolute quality no compromise then I am using 3D sky I've downloaded this chair I was not exactly it's got like the nice little cutout and stuff like that so I've gone to 3D Sky downloaded the iMac and that chair and then I've got them open in 3ds Max and the reason for having them open in 3ds Max is the ability to export to fbx now I appreciate the 3ds Max needs a license and it's not cheap we have a license for 3ds Max as part of our um overall Autodesk licensing that we've got it's like an architectural Suite well for those who haven't got access to 3ds Max you can use something called lime exporter now I know it says Lumi in there but it gives you an fbx file a format and that's the important thing so uh actually sorry I don't know whether this is completely free to say trial version there both um nonetheless it's certainly going to be cheaper than 3ds Max I can tell you that so with those two downloaded and in 3ds Max what I want to do is delete one of them and this is the importance really of using a modeling software to um what you call it to to open the Mac scene because sometimes it isn't just the single model so using even like lime exporter can have its flaws now what I would recommend there is if you're struggling to get it into a modeling program to delete excess it might just be with download another another file um because yeah if you haven't got the ability to wear the citizen what what's the point but I'm sure there are other options out there but as I say the principle is download it from a top website like 3D sky and then we want to export it um to an fbx and before we do yeah I just wanna just want to mess with the table smooth modifier and then we want to collapse all the reason for that is it comes in smoother so we collapse that because when you export to fbx it doesn't recognize that modifier stack and the key thing we want to look out for as well which is why you've probably seen some funky colors here is as long as the materials or differentiated um we're okay so I just wanted to let me just pick the screen there we go so you can see there the material stack so twin motion will recognize that so exports I'll just do desktop yeah fbx okay and then same here actually do we have any smoothing on here really modifiers nope good okay then we want to go to our import section here [Music] yeah I thought it would break up you can select the folder that it's contained and then that selects the whole thing scale are down a touch as well something like that I'll do and it's same again for the is that select the folder and then the important thing here is that we're confident that this geometry is absolutely spot on when we're going for quality there should be no compromise but when it comes to your assets upon me now let's see if we are split properly we these ones have a bit of so there's a bit too much textures about maybe a glass that's not perfect we do want the we want the screen that we just [Music] you know what we'll we'll leave that for now those look like it's flat anyway so we'll just leave that as a foreign black gloss surface and I will go back to the lovely matte Chrome [Music] and in the materials you can actually just make a new one and we'll just call this White [Music] and we'll take the material of the screen popped out there so what we're missing is is the the bezel around the edge well that's fine that one that won't hear the image [Music] we then want a palette legs I think again I'll go for the math Chrome and you see the way the legs there let's see if we can update that so what I didn't do I didn't collapse the I didn't collapse the legs so they looked fairly clunky so if I then update that export let's see if we then go into import share and just hit refresh lovely and let's get a nice fabric that's got a bit of a pattern to it oh sign in and download that one not quite it's quite convincing actually maybe just turn the scaled up that's good then what we can do is quite easily now just move into some of the some of the inbuilt assets let me just slide that over so now we've got things like books and accessories and lamps and all that sort of stuff so so look I'm just gonna I'm just gonna populate this with some inbuilt assets and I'll be back [Music] [Music] our assets are in and all we need to do now is jump into the path tracer and play with the settings and we need to get our um our environment light spot on as well it wants to be a an overcast environment so let's just pop it's a library to one side first says right HDR environment now this is nothing what it'll look like um when we've got path tracer on but it's quicker to just work in real time mode all right so just turned the library off but I need it Skies let's do low Sun overcast and we want to go for something that's quite neutral we don't want it to affect the colors of the scene too much it wants to be quite Gray I think that's nice let's load that in and then just see where the sunlight lands if we can let's just drop it in now I didn't think that that would give us direct sunlight but that is too harsh it doesn't look like it is on there but anyway let's go again maybe something like that one though I'll download a couple and the key here I IPS I think this is what makes this image so effective is is how soft the Shadows are so let's I'll just turn the video off to find another sky and figure out why this menu had dropped away and I I couldn't couldn't tell you how to get it back on um through these menus down here however what did they do was I simply dragged a sky just into the scene and then all my settings popped up thankfully so maybe cloudy we need something more we need something a little stronger to block the direct somehow that's quite nice but now that we've got this back on let's just let's just drop it in there and all I wanted to do was just get the direction right that's all I wonder what that looked like with the pathway so now you can see the softness of the Shadow there so that'll that'll do us right and then what we want to do is with the pass Chase it on let's just let's just turn the settings to low so it loads quickly and then we just want to mess with the intensity and we want to play with the exposure as well okay let's turn the render it off and you can see the difference dating levels of exposure it would be nice if they were a little more aligned but it's not the end of the world um right so now what we want to do is set up the camera so media create image and if it wants fine you want to jump in it and we want to make sure that we're getting the aspect ratio correct okay might be that much actually let's do let's do two thousand by three thousand so that's quite a nice aspect ratio with that in place we can then get the focal length spot on it isn't a huge amount of the windows on show here where it says one to six by the way for Speed I'm gonna hit one I just really settles down the speed when you when you're trying to fine tune I think that is quite important that's also looking for the two point perspective there we go so that's not bad but we can't see the the top so let's just bring that focal length in a higher camera but looking down so that'll do that'll do you know we don't wanna we don't want to get too car either way it looks like we're quite horizontal there so that'll do is when we hit refresh to just save that camera view now what we're lacking is really high quality materials now I think there are only two in play that we need to address and it's the floor and the timber surround and we want the floor particularly to be a lot lighter so it bounces the lights around better a dark floor kind of sucks a life out of the scene and then we just wanna slightly more effective it Timber behind my just hit three let's be the camera so with a mega scans now if you want the best materials I would recommend this place wood parquet now it doesn't give you an a preview like it goes on the inbuilt library so you've got a gonna have a good good lean in on your computer but first and foremost I'm looking for the right sort of tone and I do like the the Chevron style flooring as well so this is nice it's nice and Light if we got our Direction it looks in but the scale looks a bit a bit off let's just have that okay that looks okay might be spot on but you're gonna be like that you know veneer and again just diets I get the saturated oh sometimes if you continue scrolling it loads more but it's not nice at all try this one maybe we can play with the the settings a little bit so we can darken that off a touch and we can reduce the saturation I think that's quite nice again scale wants to come down 0.7 6 isn't that a decent match and then we can then select that change it to apply to object and drag that on you want to rotate it just so that's horizontal with it all let me just let me just load that in what are those settings 0.6 1.2 and rotate that 90 degrees and away we go if we go back to our camera and just seeing the path takes it on you can see there those materials are much more convincing hasn't quite got a as pronounced a like at the other The Joint debunk map so that's a bit of a shame really maybe let's try and find another floor or something that's a little whiter Chevron again now if you're not quite getting it from the from the mega scans library then I would advise that you go to a good website like a um polygon or something like that I do quite like that floor enough so let me just uh I'll just keep it as it is a good floor the roughness wants to go up fraction let's just do 65. there's also a new setting and it's new to me which has grown so that's obviously too much we've just put like five percent in it just adds a little bit of imperfections in the surface so that'll do was the floor doesn't quite safe isn't quite as pronounced as that one that that is doing a really nice job but you get the idea okay and then what we do is we want to add in some artificial lighting so that's that's getting there but then give us our lights to give us a little bit more control over the lighting I then just want to rotate that let's just come inside obviously it's a little blown then if I jump into the image and then select that light that is it 10 Shadows on volumetric shadows as well the cooler temperature wants to be quite cool like that and then it's a case of playing with the intensity subtlety is is key so I think I think something like that you feel like the camera is still a little more elevated like so I think that's I think that's nice for the that light coming in you can see we're getting really nice contact Shadows at the base just jump holes in there I forgot that math Chrome I feel like that needs a little bit of roughness hold on snakes and then just giving it a bit of something a bit of color it was too pale for my liking if we then drop that it might it may have automatically applied actually let's jump back the image there we go see look at the difference that's made and we can just lift that extraction but that's much nicer so now it's a case of let's jump into our image path chaser let's increase the bounces so tense gives us a bit more bounce life we obviously want to lift the quality and we want it to still be high in two five six that wasn't quite enough this filtering here lower values give more give sharpen images so I like to do 1.5 nice and sharp and then let's crank the samples up to something 2000 if your computer can can handle that so okay that's that's it for kind of this step and we'll just make some final tweaks in Photoshop so let me render this off and I'll be back in Photoshop okay so we're going to just make our final tweaks in Photoshop you can see there that first and foremost that the Shadows or the lighting within the timber surround it's a lot lighter than where I've got it's actually it's actually quite quite a bit shallower as well but anyway um also there's a couple little blemishes there that's not perfect so I'm not really gonna mess with that bit of the mappings gone a little bit arrival it's not too bad but I am I'm just going to use the Clone stamp tool to so those apply Mission songs we just looks a bit darker maybe just use them there you go um that was a simple case really of camera raw filter I think at least the exposure will drop the highlights you can see by dropping the highlights we're getting that lovely soft shadowing effect there we also do our lift the Shadows so we'll bring in a bit of lightness to the back there increase the contrast lifting the texture slider adds a bit of sharpness a bit more clarity add a bit of haze there's a little bit more color gray in the Colby ad I do like the fact that they've got something behind the camera so the reflection on the computer is emphasized we could have done something similar but I don't think in the time that we've spent on this one with a million miles off one last little touch I like to do so I'll just duplicate the layer look at me software is mixed up there go back into camera raw I like to use the Cinematic presets you can see I've got them open actually just for a little little floaty to finish something like that's nice that really adds realism I've duplicated the layer because then I I use the opacity to play with the strength fifty percent I think that's not not too far off let's be honest this one this one is is is still better or I'd like to think that they've spent a bit more time than than I have on this one but I hope that this gives you an indication of how to use twin motions path Tracer for really good levels of realism thanks for watching
