what's up welcome back so i've had this idea for a while now uh you might have seen my previous video where i 3d printed an intake and i actually tried installing set intake on my frontier but it didn't really fit it didn't really work to be fair it wasn't actually meant to be ran on the car it was a mold so i could make a carbon fiber intake for my truck but since i tried it i was thinking can i get away with 3d printing an entire cold air intake or short ram intake whatever for my nissan frontier would it last would it run so i think i'm gonna do that right on out cool that's what i need [Music] so all right so after a bunch of playing around i finally got a shape i like this is uh the original kind of extrusion i created to match that profile and then what i ended up with as you can see it's quite a bit larger od id might have a little bit of overlap here and there but anywhere you're seeing the mesh basically means the id is larger and it's pretty much all the way through obviously i kept the ends as close as possible so i could reuse the factory couplers here it is without the mesh i've also added on the breather for the valve cover and then i'm going to figure out how many slices i have to make in it for 3d printing and then i'll also create some kind of a alignment guide just so when i glue it all together it all flows and matches how it's supposed to [Music] [Music] all right what's up welcome to the garage i just got done printing all the pieces to the intake here they are here is the three-part assembly i've loosely taped it together just to you know align it i did forget to actually strude cut that hole someone had to drill it out luckily this is all solid so it shouldn't cause any problems um this as you might have seen in the time lapse the support was kind of failing and then it happened to catch midway through and then um you know support the rest of the master flow sensor mount this wasn't super pretty but i'm just going to roll with it for the time being eventually i will clean it up maybe use like jb weld to fill the voids and smooth it out a little bit more if you're wondering why it's so big is to adapt this uh six inch id air filter that i have had sitting around for a while should be a pretty easy install so i'm going to glue the pieces together with acetone um at these joints let that dry and then i'm going to go ahead and install it don't mind all the mess sorry i've got a lot of projects going on right now [Music] do [Music] all right it's kind of a shame going from that night nice matte plastic to this uneven gloss but it is what it is [Music] so so here it is full 3d printed intake on my 2018 frontier it's kind of ugly but it seems to be holding i'm lucky actually had this hose i'm not going to worry about clamping it for the time being i think it's fine um i guess all there is to do now is start it and give it a test drive so i actually brought uh all the factory intake setup uh the pipe the filter the whole thing and the tools to reinstall it just in case this one leaves me stranded because who knows it's very possible yo i cannot believe this is working so far really for the noise and kind of just an experiment to see if this would work it is working this would work to get you out of a pinch if you absolutely need to put an intake on something for the time being or whatever it would work in the right conditions in i think a limited capacity i wouldn't want to take i wouldn't want to rely on this intake to go you know uh from las vegas to la or you know a several hour drive i would not trust it um but right now to the post office with an ambient temperature of 56 degrees outside give or take it seems to be pretty happy okay so i've started to stop it three times no check engine light it seems to be working just fine but here's the real test hey all right everything looks pretty good it's all still in place nothing squishy nothing soft it's all still tight given this needs to be better supported but uh yo there you have it 3d printed intake it's working a moment of truth here uh i've driven about 40 miles with the intake on and it's still together and feels good holy crap it's working i still want to drive it across states but it is working right now please leave a like comment subscribe thanks for watching i'll see you guys in the next one council you
