How Space King CHANGED the Indie Animation Scene FOREVER (Analysis/Review)

okay so everyone's agreeing that impy is the best part of this 4K parody right guys okay good glad we're on the same [Music] page ropes and Trends they exist for a reason and there's some things that have been very successful lately one thing that's been successful for like the past 15 years is humanization of certain characters people still like that edge but they want the characters to be a little deeper than they used to sometimes people get sick of it you see that happening recently it looks like this is a new answer to Indie space being so focused on angst and drama I've talked about this several times before the big difference between the early 2000s 2010s just aimless edgy unsympathetic animations versus the story driven character Arc driven animations and whose preference is right or wrong it doesn't really matter really doesn't that's once again up to preference however there's clearly a market Niche for both of them there's plenty of independent animation targeted at mentally ill teenage girls but what about mentally ill teenage boys the LA of sensitization of YouTube and a lot their policies especially but flashget specifically has not really changed at all since the early 2010s he's edgy new grounds through and through there really isn't much more to that this animator specifically references Warhammer 4 Decay a lot like he obviously loves that franchise so much so that now he's making an indie animation pilot also very obviously heavily inspired by Warhammer 40K it is a ripoff but I don't think he's hiding that either it's a Chanel for an original fret series which the lawyer told us to tell you has absolutely nothing to do with Warhammer he clearly just wants to make a Warhammer 40 Cas story you know he doesn't have the rights because he's not ungodly Rich because we're not willing to sell the show to Hollywood for them to turn into dog [ __ ] like everything else so support us on patreon and we'll turn every dollar to making more episodes of space king we cannot fund more episodes without you so might as well do his own thing thus enters the space king an indie animated pilot that is basically everything I just described I don't need to say it again you know now what are my thoughts on the project how come you didn't get transfixed by her boobs Hemer she's an alien okay so hate buer gay and I'll get you a castle made of hate where no one can question your statistics did you like that did you not like that well that's what you're going to get so there isn't too much more the only thing specifically notable is obviously the titular lore of space king I don't even know if it's going to follow the same characters every episode if it does get picked up or anything happens with it it could just kill the entire cast and just have a bunch of stories rounding a search for one McGuffin honestly people do criticize McGuffin story lines a lot the idea of making the McGuffin so important that actually overshadows the main cast to the point that McGuffin Quest the story itself is more of a main character than the actual main characters that has some potential if they do that and given that Warhammer is lore Bas Series where one of the big appeals is that every civilization is evil but has their own propaganda and Lord that portrays thems as the good guys in their own historical books that could work I don't know if it's going to do that though I probably not it's mostly just going to be some goofy edgy fun however one thing I'm seeing discuss is kind of interesting is this thing might also be one of those shows with a bigger impact on the cultural Zite gist tired of all your media being filled with the lamest [ __ ] possible want a show that doesn't hate your male power fantasy but Embraces them they even admit the point of the show is to appeal to this demographic that has been feeling a little neglected over the past few years you know there's plenty of independent animation targeted at mentally ill teenage girls but what about mentally ill teenage I mean right out the gate like the main character his entire personality is being an evil brutish jock and even when it looks like he's going to learn a lesson he's going to develop he throws a bomb just at the person he just made a deal with who just wanted to protect their kids for no reason he just really is a certified hater he's going to be mounted on Mount hatm this dude just hates stuff he wants to kill things like that's his personality that's his goal I sure you can say a statue gaset him saying go search for space king but n those are his own thoughts and that's what he is and that's kind of what the show is instead of being like every other show where oh yeah you got to develop you got to become a better person you got to have depth no this guy's just an ass and there's something appealing there you know sometimes you just want a funny time poly Global extraction initiated extraction complete a sometimes funny time and you just want people to be violent you know it's fiction just have your crazy fantasy going off here people are feeling seen from this you see it even in the comment section of the clip I upload the other day you you're seeing it and this is kind of bringing in a new age of Indie animation if this does become popular because one thing with Indie animation is the stuff that has become popular it's had a lot of overlap it's been good but it's been seemingly serious cynical characters becoming more emotionally vulnerable over time every other show seems to have a similar art going on so if you want dumb fun well here's some dumb fun for you I take in all honesty I do kind prefer the newer Trend to be honest over the just edgy new ground characters being bad people and whatnot you know some of the jokes they drag on too long it gets a little old like I don't know how else to describe it they're just grabbing penis energy for like 2 minutes I like I don't why I don't care like 2 minutes for that joke that no no no come on guys I think we can do better okay and also it's going to be fun seeing Twitter realize that flash gits is basically the antithesis of Twitter they cancel wholesome creators all the time this will be hilarious to see how he responds and makes fun of Twitter for trying to make up lies and try to cancel him as well in summary whether you like it or not this is opening up more competition for the end scene and more variety which is objectively a good thing once again whether you like it or not I'm so far I'm not entirely sold on it but it gave me a chuckle every now and then and I am pretty nostalgic for the new grounds type stuff these days so if you like that go subscribe to flash kit Channel he has got a lot of other funny edgy entertaining parody
