hi today we've got a busy day ahead of us Roger and I have got this Mammoth task we're Shifting The Beacon Hill House we have to shift it across onto this piece of ply so that we can move it over to this table so I can actually use this sheet and set up a window display on it so when I take it to the shop on Sunday I'll know exactly what I'm doing so I need to take this with me poor house has to move so I shall get back to you and let you know how successful we were so we've got it on the board and we haven't damaged anything and nothing has fallen down in the house which has to be quite an achievement I would think so now the next stage is actually doing the transformation over to the other table so minute to time travel L removalists bit of the mouthful have finally managed to get the beacon all shipped it to a new table and so now I've got the whole Frontage there and I can work on that as well and you can see how it's shaping up really this is probably the best way to do it so I'll be back a little bit further on in the the day to tell you about my Georgian house so I promised a little bit of information about my Georgian house so it's this little story when I was 51 I wasn't a militarist I owned a little farm i b anus cattle I was starting up a Vineyard I was on a community uh service Club when I was president and mini were far from my mind and when I 51 I had a stroke I had a stroke on the plane coming from New Zealand to Australia and all of a sudden and instant I became somebody who couldn't speak properly couldn't walk or talk properly couldn't see properly because the stroke was in a little area of my brain that that accepted the messages from my eyes and it was amazing like it was amazing in an awful way and in the first uh appointment of the specialist and he mentioned stroke I thought I know how to deal with that I'd learned about neurons I'd learned about neuron Pathways I knew that with repetitious exercise you can get those neurons making new Pathways around damage and so when I went home I resolved to do a whole lot of rehab of my own and I picked up some crosstitch now I had to match colors I had to match symbols I had to thread a needle I had to cut little holes in a piece of material and after about 3 weeks of doing this patiently I realized it was wrong and I said to my mother-in-law who's looking after me at the time oh my God this is wrong what am I going to do and she said don't cry don't cry Jo and I said no no I'm not crying I'm really happy because this is the first time in 3 weeks that I've realized it's wrong so I knew what I was doing was the right thing to do and I carried on with all my exercises my legs my arms my eyes my hands and doing my cross stitch and finally after about 6 months I was allowed to fly back to New Zealand where relocated my family to about two weeks after I arrived my niece dropped this Georgian house into me she had started it she had started it from a design from Brian Nichols book making dolls houses inasal and this is the actual house but you can see it doesn't look like it because even in my compromised State I knew I had to make it bigger so I put another floor on it and then I gave myself a terrible lot of Woe because it kept going crooked on me and finally I got it to straighten up and then I started to work inside it and so I did the uh ceilings I I sort of covered ceilings off in in one of my videos I painted the ceilings on the man's study and in the music room and in the dining room I'd never made Miniatures before I was working purely off Brian's book I found a dollhouse and Miniatures magazine and so the next task I set myself was making Fimo food because it was small and I could cope with small so my son got used to coming home and finding all this little small food in the oven that he couldn't eat and so so this is how I got myself through a good 2 years I suppose of rehab and then I started making figures and I've never made these figures before in my life out of uh sculpy my first batch I burnt and I had to paint their faces cuz they looked very burnt which was a shame cuz they were nice faces but they were my first ones kind of special my first attempt at making miniature dresses a lot of Firsts in this house basically first in making here another one of my painted burnt ladies and I sort of set this house into a Georgian kind of uh Regency period where it was crossing over into the Regency period and the the Furnishings I bought a lot of those because I wasn't up to making them at the time and as I've gone on through the years I've edit the detail and so I've got a lot of special little things in here upstairs in the uh ladies BWI where the children are at the moment I don't have lots of dolls but I quite like the children's dolls and I found that the children dolls were the best I used to collect these tiny wee things I thought they were rather special there another one and somebody's knitted these bless their hearts and so I've kind of tailored things to suit myself over the years I made this little sewing cabinet and it's got a little treasure in here I have to be very careful that I don't I'm going to have to tip everything out first because it's too small to get out on its own but sorry about my hand there but this is an actual crocher Hawk and a little bamboo case and it's even got the little bit in the middle that had the stamp on it and the Little crocher Hook and it was made by David Edwards some of you might have already guess that he makes beautiful tiny work so there we go and it fits perfectly together so I have to keep it in here because I would lose it otherwise and another little treasure that I have I purchased at a miniatura show and this is made by um John Davenport and he's made all these little brass fittings of the little bone covers to the inkwells all the little brass bits the inlay it all um flicks up it's made in Oak comes down all this inlay work it's actually got a little secret drawer it comes out and it spins around it's got a little drawer that comes out here John did these tiny wee brass knobs himself and this is something think that I treasure also and down in the kitchen I've got a pair of rats that I bought in Sydney once at a show I've got a little um egg basket that my husband bought back from Island for me beautiful my son has brought me back little cooking things from France and so my family have been really supportive with my miniature hobby right from the beginning so the in the lounge or the music room the U piano actually plays when we get to turn the knob [Music] [Music] oops thany hands of course I got a little to that I brought in Sydney which gives me fine meor memories fun memories of Australia a little ceramic one and then down into the dining room most of that has been uh things that I bought my husband bought me the baby cabinet on the back so for a rehabilitation project it was a pretty good one it did take me four years before I could actually talk and walk and um think again at the same speed and then another couple of years and I started up a a Vineyard tour business and I got my license my taxi driver license which meant that I was pretty okay by six years down the track and now I think there's only a few little tells I might hesitate sometimes when I'm talking or I might forget something but I could always put that down to old age so the it's a story actually is of one of perseverance and one of being stubborn and not giving up and so for anybody who has had a small stroke or a little episode of that sort just keep going you know just focus on the little stuff and you'll get through it [Music]
