How Much Is This Painting Worth? | Web Appraisal | Bismarck

brought in this wall painting don't know very much about it other than I bought it on the Saturday auction in summertime in North Dakota every Saturday there's a household auction I'd love to go to them bought it because I liked the use of light in the oil a very warm see when you brought it to us you had a sheet of paper that referenced the painting and mentioned the artist Erskine nickel and on the front and the lower right here we see the word nickel I don't see anything in front of it and the signature almost looks like it was scratched out which is not necessarily uncommon as opposed to paint it in when I look at this painting I don't think that this painting is by Erskine nickel it's an interesting painting it's decorative paint what makes me say that Erskine nickel was an artist from Scotland who worked in the 19th century primarily known as a figural painter did a lot of landscapes in the UK but as we look at this painting both in terms of the style subject matter the way it's signed here in the lower right and if we look at the canvas both front and back this is a 20th century painting and when we look at the label on the back the WT Berger company was a company founded in the 20th century in the 40s in Indiana it's an original oil painting handsomely framed the original frame the original cloth liner if I had to date the painting I would probably say the third quarter of the 20th century it's also the sort of name that as I'm sure you look and you go through the internet you can drive yourself crazy because of the number of artists whose last name is nickel so I believe it's an original oil painting perhaps done and likely done by somebody named nickel but not our skin nickel do you remember what you paid for the payment Robbie a hundred and fifty two hundred dollars so word an earth skin nickel we'd be talking about thousands of dollars if I saw this in an antique store the price you paid then would probably be similar today in 2014 so what you paid when you first bought it thank you very much thank you for bringing it in it's nice to see
