the other day I saw this post that talked about how in just under 20 years we've gotten five Spider-Man twos and that got me thinking how the hell are we not tired of this guy I mean think about it we've practically been drowning in Spider-Man content since before I was born yet now as an 18 year old I'm more of a fan than ever so after seeing this post I looked up how many movies in total there really are and in the last 20 years we've gotten 10 Spider-Man movies that is basically a Spider-Man movie every 24 months this franchise should be oversaturated but it's not how are we as an audience not like oh my God this [ __ ] guy again well after I watched the newest Spider-Man movie across the spider-verse I realized something miles's story fixes a huge problem with every Spider-Man movie to ever exist and I'm gonna explain it in this video so enjoy [Music] and I know I just went on a whole tangent of how many Spider-Man movies there are but let me just list them for you to kind of put it into reference here Spider-Man Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man 3 The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man homecoming Spider-Man into the spider-verse Spider-Man far from home Spider-Man no way home Spider-Man across the spiderverse and then there's a Spider-Man video game and the other one and the other one and like the 50 other ones that's not even counting the hundreds of other pieces of media that have been released in the last 20 years not you the film genre video game genre animated genre pretty much every form of media is filled to the brim with Spider-Man content but spider-verse and Miles as a character shows the downright resilience Spider-Man has not just his own fictional world but in the real world as well and the icon that this symbol has become for so many people there's heart and there's passion for this character that is shared in the audience and the creators that cannot be said for other superhero films and not just miles but every iteration of this character has contributed their own ideas to the meaning of Spider-Man and in a way keeps this entry-long character running but to really understand that we have to start at the very beginning [Music] foreign okay not that far this beginning so what we're going to do is we're going to go through each evolution of Spider-Man starting with Toby Maguire's and ending with across the spider reverse and we're really going to dissect how this character has become such an icon in today's world and how miles's movies played the biggest role so sit down and enjoy the story of the spider apocalypse God that sounded really dumb I love Sam or Amy's Spider-Man movies but when Toby's Trilogy first came out I was not um I was not alive I was only two when the third one came out now I was older when Andrew's movies came out but I I didn't watch them they were dark and gritty and too scary for seven-year-old me and when I heard there was going to be another Spider-Man my tiny little brain couldn't wrap my head around it like what happened to the other two maybe this is just a personal experience from when I was a kid maybe I was just really [ __ ] stupid but my first impression of Spider-Man was they're replacing him again that is too confusing I'ma just watch cartoons instead oh God damn don't get me wrong Spider-Man was absolutely still a pop culture icon this video is mostly about spider-verse but I don't want to just gloss over the foundation that Toby and Andrew Bill and however you feel about the quality of these two franchises they are iconic to the Spider-Man brand but I think at the time the general consensus of Spider-Man was that he really wasn't the star of the show like he is nowadays like at the time the star of the show was Iron Man or Captain America and sure maybe he was big in the comics but I didn't know that I didn't read Comics I was too busy talking to girls it's over no please but yeah my point is that at the time when I was growing up Spider-Man was the character that no one really got right he was constantly replaced having completely different stories each time that seemingly could never make everyone happy you know it was always like Toby was too awkward or Andrew's too cool and Thomas too spoiled and when Spider-Man got rebooted again we would have to re-watch An Origin story for the third time in the last like 10 years now luckily Marvel and Sony knew this we already know the gist you know he gets bit by a spider or something and then Tony's like hey come on kiddo come fight this war with me and he's like okay and I think this was a really smart move by Marvel in such a Fantastical Universe like the MCU we don't need to establish that there's some radioactive spider with the nature of this universe it's believable we can just move on so they just plop us right into the story now this isn't what caused Spider-Man to become what he is today remember without the benefit of hindsight this is the third actor Spider-Man were on after two canceled franchises the only twist now is that he's in the MCU but then there was a shift after Iron Man arguably the lead of the MCU up to that point died Marvel was aware that Spider-Man had to take the man to to lead the MCU and that's exactly what far from home is about so while the MCU was slowly pushing Spider-Man as the lead role something else was brewing in the shadows [Music] no spider-verse was working on another way to push the spider apocalypse God it gets Dumber every time I say it similar to Tom Holland's first Spider-Man appearance the writers of spider-verse know that we already know the story we've seen it for what feels like hundreds of times so they play it out they turn it into some sort of running bit and they do this without disrespecting the stories already told and told probably one of the best origin stories of a Spider-Man and mind you this is basically the third guy we've seen bitten by a radioactive spider not only did spider-verse completely change the animation industry but it has also recontextualized every iteration of Spider-Man that exists to this day now Andrew Garfield Spider-Man isn't some failed franchise that try to be different or cool with much colder tones but instead it's just one Universe out of thousands of spider people that we saw Toby Spider-Man wasn't replaced after his third movie spider-verse introduced the fact that these are different universes and Toby's universe is still going on but we just weren't there to watch it you get what I'm saying like instead of these movies being failed or canceled Spider-Man projects they're just different universes of Peter Parker's story that we saw on the big screen and they continue to live on even if we're not watching them spider-verse maybe on accident connected these iterations together and of course or spider-verse stands alone as amazing movies maybe even the Best Western animated movies of all time now obviously Toby and Andrew Spider-Man were successful but there was always some sadness in the fact that these Spider-Man movies were canceled but this movie dampens that fact it went from these movies constantly replacing Spider-Man actors to have each character matter in their own separate way even though they're all the same guy I mean obviously this must have been an accident Sam Raimi wasn't making Spider-Man 1 going holy [ __ ] this is gonna be sick when the Multiverse collapses it was a happy accident I know I keep talking about this but I feel like this is so unique to Spider-Man's character I think if you did this with any other character or superhero it wouldn't have worked where before you only had one chance to make a good Spider-Man movie now there's four fan favorite characters that are all Spider-Man and that's not even counting the hundreds of Side characters we see I mean think about how genius that is now we can have a Spider-Man children's show teaching us about friendship and not have to wrap our heads around that this is the same guy who tried to kill Green Goblin and obviously this wouldn't be a big deal like the average viewer wouldn't think this in tons of other characters have been able to do this but it's fun it's fun to think these guys both have stories that exist together this is the friendly one from the the children's Universe now these two can coexist as different characters but stemming from the same franchise that is Spider-Man I think this is how Spider-Man really spread through all forms of media in such an easy way because now people can distinguish these characters as being two different people but also have each and every one have its own way to the story and spider-verse does another thing that just completely revitalizes Spider-Man it brought miles into the picture this was already a very heavy theme in the comics before but spider-verse reinforced the fact that anyone can be Spider-Man and also bringing a new face to the franchise that isn't the same white guy with a side part probably helped but yeah the message of anyone being able to be Spider-Man tied into the Multiverse aspect of anyone being Spider-Man perfectly God that was confusing to say it completely upped the character as more of an icon rather than just a singular person and of course after the movie everyone was thinking wait if these guys could come together does that mean that these guys could come together they actually did the thing we wanted and it was sick ass [ __ ] now I know I said the time that Toby and Andrew's movies are released I never really watched them but by the time Tom Holland was put into the MCU and the question about which Spider-Man was best really came about I watched those movies and I enjoyed them both in their own separate ways and although it seems obvious now it was nearly impossible to really know of Toby and Andrew were actually going to be in the movie aside from that one leak and and that one but they did it they did the thing we really wanted and they ended this Trilogy with Tom Holland Spider-Man finally getting a classic Spider story they also gave us Insight on Toby's life and gave Andrew a Sprinkle of redemption that he deserved and we the audience are so excited for what's to come next each Spider-Man movie just continues to give us what we want and it's so cool I should be praising you know a studio for doing something the audience actually wants but I am because that doesn't really happen a lot anymore okay guys all we have to do is not make Batman kill people okay that's like his big thing or whatever oh God damn it the bar is seriously like this low it also helps that Spider-Man expanded its grass to not just live action movies again spider-verse stands alone as one of the best animated movies ever made but I'm also very connected to the video game Spider-man because on this story I literally am Spider-Man you know I'm the one swinging and throwing the punches and I could just make a whole other video about the storytelling elements for example they know that we know that docok is evil so what they do instead is make dock likeable so that we don't want him to become evil just a bunch of stuff like that that's really smart but yeah back to no way home I kind of went on a tangent there people were ecstatic to finally see this Peter be alone to truly suffer because that's the cost of being Spider-Man and we haven't really seen that with this iteration apart from the time he died that that would probably suck and as the Multiverse Trend in movies started to come through across the spider verse completely destroyed the competition again just as we finally are happy that Thomas Peter gets a classic Spider-Man story of suffering spider-verse tops that by asking one thing does Spider-Man need to suffer across the spider verse just again shows us why this is the best story of the Multiverse so I saw spider verse 2 on release day and it was really really good now that's obviously not an unpopular opinion right you can tell there was Blood Sweat and Tears put into this movie I mean the movie deserves all the praise it gets you see the Multiverse doesn't work as well when it's used in a way for cheap cameos and fan service but it works when it's used to explore a character and examine who they really are as a person and also have fan service across the spiderverse shows us The Genius of this franchise how each movie has been able to continually explore aspects of Spider-Man in intriguing ways while also just being full of love and passion for the character just seeing the light in our miles's eyes dies when it cuts to 42 miles is just perfect in just a second we can tell that this is miles but a miles that has lost almost everything using the Multiverse to show how far someone can fall from Pure circumstance is a perfect way to ground and let us reflect on miles's character every movie challenges the beliefs of the audience can Spider-Man balance being a superhero and having a home life can Spider-Man fail can Spider-Man fit in the MCU can anyone be Spider-Man can we see our favorite Spider-Man together can we finally see a classic Spider-Man being the Everyman hero not fighting aliens or space but being a relatable broke kid in New York who has to suffer to be a hero and finally why does Spider-Man have to suffer we're not tired of Spider-Man because every new installation delivers such Nuance to the character if you think about it we barely have seen some of the most popular stories from comic books we have yet to see a full secret War Story with a Venom Suit we're just now finally getting craving content and we haven't even seen big wheel yet okay that last one uh might be a stretch usually after a while genres and movies get tainted for example the MCU has fallen Far From Grace after end game in the messy situation of phase four the audience got bored so anyone but I am not bored or Spider-Man in any franchise I can't wait for beyond the spiderverse I'm excited to see Tom Holland's Peter in college I'm counting the days until I can see Andrew and Toby again they're coming back guys I swear I'm so excited to um watch someone play Spider-Man 2 because I don't have a PS5 which by the way subscribe so I can make more Spider-Man content 95 of you guys are and if you like my personality it would really be appreciated we recently just hit 10 000 subscribers which is just insane so thank you okay Shameless plug done let's get back to the video I love Spider-Man this franchise has inspired me more than any other piece of media throughout my whole life somehow the story that has been repeated seemingly hundreds of times is not tiresome and I'm all here for it I guess you could say the spider apocalypse was a success it still sounds dumb every time I say it if you guys can think of any other reasons why Spider-Man has become a cultural icon let me know in the comments down below I genuinely want to hear your thoughts on this I know this video was me just kind of saying how good Spider-Man movies are which isn't you know an unpopular opinion but it's just so interesting how everything played out for our favorite superhero and now that you're done with this video go ahead and watch this video right here and yeah that's basically it thanks for watching um web on Webheads so yeah
