How MEN I TRUST get their sound

are you a fan of many trust's dreamy Indie pop sound have you ever wondered how they create such captivating music I spent six months living in an isolated wood cabin in the Canadian woods just to give you the inside scoop So today we're going in a deep dive into the world of many trust and learning about their unique style instruments and songwriting process and to demonstrate their techniques we're going to write an original song in the same style as the band so whether you're a musician looking to expand your sound or just a music lover curious about the creative process this video is for you welcome to sound like men I trust we are starting off with the tone and BPM their songs are generally around 70 BPM or around 1 30. when at around 1 30 BPM it feels like half time to keep the slow groovy feel [Music] so I'll be doing similarly then to set the tone their message what their music is We tend to avoid like things that are self-destructive or that are like impulses of death and they're just enough of it yeah they are and sometimes it's good it's cathartic you know it's a it helps you fill out negative energy it can be cool so I don't judge that at all but yeah for us I guess it's more you know wanted to have like things are beautiful just because they're beautiful and I just wanted to feel good yeah I guess yeah that's why we have like nice harmonies soft sounds other than through their lyrics to get the tone across the singing is light and wispy often keeping pauses between statements to let the song Breathe [Music] cause I'm leaving instruments the setup of the band is vocals guitar bass drums and usually Keys the guitar style is usually a single chord per measure that leads the chord progression in the song where I used to say the guitar usually has no effects but if there are it's sometimes a light delay or Reverb the keys are very smooth and usually act similar as they take turns on songs to each add an accent or ornamentation and sometimes even a solo [Music] [Music] One Core feature of their songs is yet again as a biased bassist the bass [Music] most songs have an iconic grooving bass line to drive the song forward for most songs there's not much time when there isn't a bass playing the bass usually moves up and down and hits the root notes of the chords to Accent the chord changes the base style is picked and usually dampened with the palm the drummer plays the softest and cleanest drums with a towel over the snare and a closed high end for Sharp clean drum hits the voice is smooth and soft if there are any effects it would be some Reverb or chorus layers men I trust layer each song gently on each other drum is usually paired with the bass as each portion of the song is added on sometimes there are vocalizations that are layered [Music] love [Music] but besides that there are not too many layers happening the songs are clean and played great Live lyrics lyrics are about people and the relationships some songs are about some of their friends or situations in their lives first thought is the bands we I used to have like lyrics and then impose them and I beat them sometimes was more hard you know when the musical aspect nowadays what we tend to do is like more go for The Melodies first and the Rhythm and then you know the certain mood emerges from that and then we'll write something that it fits you know with the mood um so we have lots of subject matters but I guess um what what do you have like in common altogether is it it's always about things that we live or that we believe in or that we ideas we're like having a conversation with a listener what do you think of that um there's always things that I guess we embody in certain certain way yeah so yeah Reflections or really factual things that happens like stories now let's do the song Here is the grooving Bass with dampen tone [Music] let's add the clean drums incoming smooth keys finally guitar chords we're just missing The Voice [Music] with the hearts all pure spirit so kind [Music] [Music] way s [Music] oh yeah [Music] oh yeah [Music]
