TLDW; through MRI studies, (functional MRI's) meditation has been proven to turn off the "autopilot " response in your brain, and gives you the ability to change outcomes on how your brain reacts to given situations by viewing what is happening to you from an outside perspective. Also, studies on Neuroplasticity, (how your brain lights up) is positively affected through meditation, specifically cognitive training, and motor function.
