a crew welcome back to the channel this is Matt with Emerald Isle seafoods in this video I'll be showing you footage from our 2018 crab season and I'll explain some of the steps we take in the process so to start off we begin by chopping up our fate is just running it through the baby shops right here saves us a lot energy and I have to do that by hand so now we start launching crap pots Tristan loads up the bait jars and the bait bags and hands them to me I snapped them in [Music] and then I closed up the bottom of the pot [Music] [Music] I'm separating the line right here to try and keep the line from tangling on himself [Music] [Music] I still managed to catch a coil right there but it didn't get short lines so it came back all right [Music] this was the opening day so we spread our pus for our part to prospect the area that's to try and find good pockets of crab before you drop all your pots in one place [Music] they were spread out about quarter mile apart so this whole process took us Vidya about a couple hours so all dad runs up on the gear i hook the buoy and pulling the slack [Music] and then I'll put the line into the hydraulic block [Music] there's about 75 fathoms of line on each pot which is around 450 feet so at this point that clips on the pigs and hook and we lift it with our picking winch [Music] [Music] we just land the part I unclip the snap [Music] [Music] and then we just pick the crowd out [Music] each pot takes five to eight minutes to haul in and set back out [Music] [Music] as you can see in this pot wouldn't have any crab an octopus had crawled in there and either ate the ones that were in there or they just never went in they won't go in the pot with an octopus [Music] at us and back in and the end up moving the spot so this is a couple of days later we went back and checked our prospect pots and then we consolidated them onto our best spots [Music] these pups get kind of heavy to swing around when they have that many crab to them this is around 30 or 40 legal crab in order to keep crab they have to measure five and a half inches across atop the shell and to measure that distance kristen has a measuring stick and he'll measure point to point on the top of the crab shell [Music] during this time I repaid the pot and then dad goes and repositions and launch it and then I go over and help Christine store that crap [Music] you sort them all out before we start on our next pot so that they don't get stressed out the cold winter air after they're all sorted we pour them down to the hole filled with circulating seawater this will keep them alive until we deliver them [Music] we run xxx wearing Potsie today starting at 8 a.m. ending at 6 p.m. and then there's a 20-pot limit nomatter the boat size that your limit is 20 pots and with that I'll live here if you enjoyed the video hit that like button feel free to comment and subscribe for more fishing videos personal vows thanks for watching [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
