[Music] hey guys hi guys um i feel like you're too far away let me bring you closer okay okay so today i'm going to be well first off i just want to say i just want to say i plotted a book in one day yeah i uploaded a book in one day and this is extremely funny to me because i am a pantser i do not plot for my life i just write whatever i can and hope for the best but for some reason this particular day i just felt like i wanted to change as a writer and start plotting like a normal person so if you are a panther or you just can't plot for your life or you struggle with it a lot this is the video for you because i'm going to be telling you exactly how i plotted my book in one day but before we get on to the video i really hope you guys subscribe to um our writer channel because y'all we have become such a cool writing community and i feel like we're growing so so much so thank you so much for subscribing and joining the writer community but yeah without further ado let's go ahead and get on to the video so i want you guys to open up a word document make sure you name your um document so you know what the heck it is i'm just going to say plotting my novel because i make the randomest um file names like it's actually so bad because surely i'm not the only one who writes as my files don't be like me don't be like me now that we have our beautiful document we're going to be going to insert and we're going to be making a table so you're going to go insert table and we're going to make um a table of two times two and in the first column you're going to be writing a chapter in the next column you're going to be writing about of course if you have a prologue you'll you know put zero like chapter zero or if you just go straight into your book you wanna do chapter one um and then you start writing your book so the reason why i like to use this table um sort of section is it kind of helps me remember that i'm not writing a book that i am plotting usually i like to either do mini paragraphs or i like to do dot points dot points are a really great way just to kind of state what happens in the chapter um and kind of keeps you focused and allows you not to go into too much detail which i definitely do the time that i plotted my novel in one day you can definitely see the discrepancy in my about column because i like i was really good at the start and i was like writing just like this happens this happens this happens and then towards the end i started to get longer and longer because i'm like wait no this happens then this person says this blah blah blah but it kind of depends on how detailed you guys want to plot um your book before i get into the details of how to plot i do want to give you two little things to remember the first thing i want you guys to kind of remember is that i actually kind of had an idea so if you do have an idea of what your book is about who your characters are what kind of happens in the book and what your three kind of acts are that's a great start to plotting and that's what kind of helped me speed up the plotting process but if you haven't really thought about your book too much um i definitely recommend making a new document naming it brain vomit and literally just putting dot points of everything you think about the book like your characters the world building um the plot anything you think about put it in this document and have it by your side when you're actually plotting and the second thing i wanted to tell you guys is the biggest the biggest hugest i can't even stress this i can't stress this enough i kind of discovered this on my own when i started to plot and since i struggle so much with plotting um this is the biggest tip i can ever give anyone and also myself whenever i want to plot out my chapters and my book in general okay i don't know if you guys have this problem i know it happens like i know that this needs to happen and then this happens i just don't know the in between i don't know how the characters are going to get here i don't know how the plot is going to progress to here but i know where the kind of you know book is going i just don't know how to connect those two ideas together and i have a tip to completely change that and what i do is i think about setting settings helps so so much because it helps you you know visualize where things are gonna happen even if you don't know what is gonna happen it kind of is almost like a trigger to what could happen in that place at that time and you kind of almost interconnect and join those sort of ideas settings together but i will show you what i mean right now so let's get back to our document and we're going to be going um beneath this so before we're actually going to plot we're going to be setting out this setting every kind of setting that you think your characters will go to even just like cool things that you have in your world or at least like places you want to visit places you want to talk about places that things happen so that can be for example like a graveyard or an abandoned building maybe the library or a high school and let's say a cathedral it kind of depends on if your story is a fantasy or just a fiction book um my story that i plotted was a fiction book so it's a bit more like easier i guess but it could be easier too if you have a fantasy book by the way that you're able to kind of think of really cool places like maybe there's a like secret cave or like a really cool mountain that um transports to another world i don't know literally such cool things but settings help create action does that make sense so if we say chapter one um you know the story begins in a graveyard we can then kind of visualize what happens in that graveyard because if you just pick a setting and describe the setting describe what the characters think of the setting describe what characters can do in that setting those are really good triggers that help you kind of understand where you want your your story to go and and where things can kind of link so since we have a list of settings i don't know if this helps anyone else but it definitely helps me it just kind of helps me kind of almost stay on the plot and gives me ideas to how the story can progress and the places that kind of allow the story to progress does that make sense i i really really hope it does um but yeah let's go ahead and get on to plotting so of course since this is a plotting video i'm going to be trying to plot with you guys so you see the entire process of how i actually you know plot a whole book in you know a day um but today i have had this idea for a little while i'm not sure if you guys want to hear it um but if you don't just skip to this this um time stamp i guess but this is literally such a simple idea i just had the idea of a wizard kind of guy who's like really really really cool and it kind of reminds me of how from the house moving castle anyways his assistant like had died i'm not really sure how he died but i just know that his assistant died and the wizard ends up having to go on errands himself to this underground sort of city where they kind of have all these stores set up where these wizards kind of can come and get these supplies in order to like you know do their spells and stuff but the i'm gonna hear these things but the girl but the wizard and the wizard ends up finding a human who somehow got lost and ended up um kind of going through a portal which led her to this crazy place and she's like homeless and she doesn't know what the heck she's doing she doesn't know where this place is and and i'm not sure if i want her to be kind of intoxicated almost i'm literally like thinking of ideas as i'm explaining it but maybe she's like intoxicated by this sort of like powder that a random pasta i kind of gave her and she was like homeless she's hungry she just kind of consumed it and she ends up being like high basically and this wizard ends up like taking her back and he ends up kind of giving her a home and she you know she doesn't know about magic because she's a human and she doesn't know about wizards or anything but she ends up copying his assistant so of course she like writes up his spells and everything um that's just kind of the premise of my story i just had that idea of like a really cool hot um wizard and like a girl who's a human and she has nothing to do with magic and he kind of just takes her in that's the story i'm gonna be trying to plot it today don't know how that's gonna happen but we're gonna be doing it we are gonna be doing it so uh yeah let's go ahead and plot [Music] alrighty so i just kind of wrote dot points to what kind of happens in the first chapter and it was kind of a little bit hard because i'm still kind of getting the vibe of the story again it really does help if you've been thinking about the story for like a long time like i did um for the story i actually plotted in a day but for now having dot points really just helps me get like the actions done um and yeah by having the setting which i just kind of came up with then whereas like an underground cool market place for wizards and like goblins and all these cool creatures um it just kind of helped you know with the stalls and just like me imagining like a pub for example where the girl ended up like ended up um when she had tripped into the portal and ended up there and the setting also helped me initiate the idea of like a chase scene throughout like the big tents and stalls and her going underneath the table in which like the wizard the main wizard is kind of dealing at um and it's kind of cool kind of fun but yeah i kind of wrote my first chapter in literally like five minutes kind of crazy but that's kind of like the way i plot now um and only recently have i really applied this kind of um process and it's really really helped just having those settings down below my um plotting like my chapter uh plot also i wanted to point out i kind of referenced this before but um in regards to how much detail you want to go into if i do have like a big idea around like the characters the world and stuff like that i would definitely include dialogue um it's only if you have the idea to okay so this is kind of like the catch i guess um only if you kind of have the idea just put it in there put it in that chapter um in that dot point because it will kind of help trigger that memory again once you come back to it and write your actual manuscript so like yeah sometimes you're like oh i don't want to go into that much detail about like what the characters kind of say but like if you just have the idea of like maybe the character makes a snarky comment or something like that add it in so you kind of just remember that because yeah plotting like this does give you a lot of ideas like that but yeah i hope that helped i know this was kind of a really quick video but yeah just kind of making a table like that um if you do run drive ideas literally what i do is i sit down and sleep in my bed um i put on headphones and you listen to like ambient music or like really cool like playlists and just imagine your characters and that's when you start to get ideas for like situations and stuff but if you did want a video of me kind of giving you tips of how to come up with like ideas for scenes for like uh characters plot ideas plot twists definitely comment down below because i have a lot of things that i like to do to kind of literally come up with these ideas um when i'm completely blank but again that one tip about the settings helps me so much i hope you guys actually understand what i mean by that um but yeah that's what i use like literally all the time all the time but yeah i hope you guys enjoyed the video i know again it was quick but i hope this kind of helped at least give you some idea of how you can set out your plotting process and plotting by chapters is really important if you guys are struggling you know plotting we've all been there i think like plotting in one day definitely is hard but if you do have a day like dedicated to writing i would definitely recommend just smashing that plot out because it helps so much when you're actually writing your manuscript and i hope you're not a panther anymore i hope i've like converted you into a plotter because i have converted very much anyways guys i hope you guys subscribe to my channel again i love you so so much i hope these tips helped and um yeah i hope you see my next video i really wish you guys luck um with your plotting and with your books i hope to see you in my next video and yeah see you soon keep writing bye [Music] [Music]
