I do this as well. For me the habit trackers also adds accountability--For example one of my daily trackers is 'no dessert' (all my meals are provided by my employer and I can easily grab dessert several times a day). Before I tracked it there wasn't enough motivation to not grab some pie/ice cream/cookies several times a week but now I want to dot that space and it keeps me in moderation. The dot adds permanence to the action--you can't erase it.
