Stewie 2K has never been in the top 20 yet is the only player to win a major and a grand slam with na rosters and just won IM Dallas after a nearly 2-year break despite never being the best in the region Stewie's easily the most popular player in North America currently so I want to take a look at how good Stewie was in his prime why he has such insane cultural impact and why he's managed to win with almost every team he's ever played and it's not luck like who who the hell is Stewie 2K right before we go further I want to talk about our sponsor War Thunder War Thunder is a free-to-play cheating it was obvious but a couple years later that same player won a major so I was probably wrong but I wasn't alone a ton of people even notable ones seem to agree that he was cheating hly He Cheats I don't care what anyone says because unlike most breakout players shroud his game sense might have been even more impressive than his aim but how exactly do you get game sense that good with 2 years of downloading the game steude I got a question I suck like when you play do you think about the decisions you make no he doesn't I realiz this when we're talking of early stewie2k we're talking about 2015 CS here JW was one of the best opers and he would literally buy a saw off and jump down drop on Cobble people thought they were playing smart CS but we know now they weren't so on first glance a lot of Stewie's plays seemed like random bad pushes that just happened to work and sometimes yeah but a lot of the time he was actually kind of ahead of the meta if we look at this clip from trick he's spamming the bottom banana smoke while his entire team is fighting top mid that's probably a mistake and Flash pushing through the smoke is just a great way to capitalize on that but still rush me these [ __ ] idiots God I [ __ ] hate Stewie so much dude it's easier to hate the player than to hate the game when it comes to these sorts of reactions you have to consider how Pros think about the game because they don't have a pros and cons list out before every play they make a lot of it is just feel based on thousands of hours of playing the game and Stewie was well ahead of his time for understanding pressure across the map the same way robs or Nico might use pressure from mid players to know they can catch the a player off guard or blame FF might delay a trade for a second so the player thinks he can get away Stewie just had a natural feel for when and how to get aggressive and it wasn't just individual either in his video about Stewie launders told this story you could see it man there were moments where I was low on ideas and I remember respectfully Stewie came in and said hey if you don't mind I can call this round and he came through with the most detailed call with names for everybody to do what they needed to do and we won the round off the back of Stewie's one call and that's when I learned firsthand the absolute value of somebody who is a good support caller that story from launders is from long before Stewie was ever on c9's radar but he was already improving the teams he played with in more ways than just fragging and I think that's the key to understanding why Stewie found success on almost every roster because when it comes to impact fragging is secondary I stopped by nothing stream the other day to ask his early thoughts on Stewie and he said a lot of the same things I was already thinking Stu was you know my early memories before I knew him was I actually thought Stu was Mexican okay he actually confirmed that Stu wasn't as much of a pug Star as people thought and gave some insight about his smoke criminal gameplay a lot of people just thought smoke criminal was like this kid who just was playing dumb through smoke but it was actually specifically the mechanic especially when they couldn't pull the underhand where when you would flash like this and they couldn't hear the Flash and you do this like someone in this position won't hear the underhand it seems like before the sound update flashbangs were harder to hear so right clicking a flash through a smoke was really effective and nothing new early on Stewie's aggression wasn't completely random but the community saw things a bit differently Stewie will not to deliver any results different from the ones Cloud9 already experienced he will not be in a positive addition to the team and he will not go big on L and then shortly after joining C9 D played simple in a 1v1 aim map battle and simple two him on 170 ping and to the community that was confirmation Stewie was overrated and couldn't hang against tier one Pros but in his first match on C9 even while bottom fragging and losing you could already see Stewie had a future at this level even closing out overtime of map one with a 4K let me remind you this is literally within 2 years of starting to play CS goo gameplay-wise it didn't take long for people to realize I Stewie was a solid pickup but watching back this era I can't stress enough how little respect entry fraggers got for how hard the job was like Stewie's been a tier one player for four months at this point he's playing against envious and his team says go entry B versus Kenny s with an op and we're not going to throw any utility and he does he gets two kills and then two rounds later his team throws one mediocre Flash and says good luck and he runs up a with one Flash and no smokes and gets two kills again games in this era were just different like I know this is from just before he joins C9 but this whole team sets up Arch and jumps through an arch smoke completely dry to go one for two and the next round they do use a flash but they don't have an arch smoke so Stewie is just clearing the whole map at the same time honestly I think steel put it best God this is the worst attack ever if someone's if you're track caller if Ocean's calling for you to do this play you it's a miracle that you're able to just run in like that and get a it's honestly doing this sort of role and putting up the numbers Stewie did as fast as he did is nothing short of a miracle and here's the thing I don't even think entry fragging was Stewie's best role I think Stewie does his best when he's taking solo control or aggro lurking think banana on Inferno you take control and you can find timings to lurk but that ability lends itself to entry fragging because on a default if you're entry goes well you can turn that into a lurk really easily and find some crazy timing and that's probably the main thing Stewie added to liquid when he joined them but on actual sight hits he always felt best as second or third in because he was great at trading and that would actually give him a chance to be alive in the clutch where he was also really good and this is a role entering on defaults but second in on exx that he actually did somewhat often on C9 where he pulled off by far his best rating his but look at the time look at the time there seconds the oh yeah the Boston major just looking at Stewie's stats or gameplay is never really going to describe why he's such a popular player in the na scene in fact Le has had better stats his entire career and placed in the top 20 five separate times to Stewie's zero but still he's nowhere close to the point that Maui snake even put Stewie above Nico in his cultural impact tier list but looking at Na's first major it is kind of obvious Not only was Stewie famous for the smoke criminal thing but he was always an insanely clutch player and he managed to do it in the biggest moment physically possible alongside one of the most iconic play calls of all time on his side but look at a time look at a time there's 7 Seconds of BL the bom they're try to build pyramid but there's no more play Ste R around we go the time but despite all that Stewie to liquid was still one of the most unpopular roster moves of all time with people calling it a scam trade offer and the worst trade deal in the history of trade deals the funny thing about Stewie's career is that by far his most wins come after this and his biggest downswing ever looking at his career page from 2019 onwards through stei never passes 1.0 rating again but liquid becomes by far the most dominant team in the world and as much as people might argue that it had to do with the fall of astralis and there's a point there I think Stewie's addition made the true difference because 2018 liquid always felt a bit predictable often playing with similar timings and walking into Stacks because of it once they added Stewie it gave them another dimension take a palace lurk for example when I watched Naf play there he generally played it very passive and didn't take any major risks which is mostly how you're supposed to play it but when Stewie went Palace he would often lurk aggressively looking for a timing and even if he didn't find it that would make teams play differently for the entire game I'm not sure on the exact timing of this but I always remember liquid as the first team I saw doing the double lurk default instead of sending a player B Apartments they would send a player in both Palace and a ramp so they could 2V1 the aight Defender and almost always end up with the kill this along with what can only be described as battle oping with Stewie having a whole 20% of his kills on the op made liquid a much better team but his stats never really reflected this and in most people's minds you could probably replace Stewie with almost any entry player and have the same result and true they probably still do lose to astris at the major but I actually think liquid versus Asis is a great example of what made Stewie so important to the na Scene It seems clear now liquid had problems versus strawless that went a lot further than in-game skill every single player on liquid except Naf did drastically worse against as strawless individually and in close games they would often turtle and play scared and just let a slowly grind them down with their methodical play style but Stewie in an effort to change that did exactly the opposite when games were getting tense instead of hiding he would go for plays through smoke run at them or pick up the op anything to try and change the pace and while these plays didn't change the outcome they did showcase exactly why Stewie was successful his whole career if he sees a problem he's going to do what it takes to fix it even if it means looking like an idiot or not getting any kills because when it comes down to it wins matter more than frags thanks for watching and if you enjoyed this video click on this other one YouTube things you'll like
