How Easy is it to Ride a Can Am Spyder

so let's talk about the spider question I got a couple people wants to know more about this spider and in doing that what I'm going to talk about is how easy is it to ride a can-am Spyder one of the differences between that and a motorcycle most obvious difference is this is three wheels you got a reverse trike configuration two wheels up front one in the back biggest thing is you cannot low-side it you can't slip it won't slip out from under you it's not gonna fall you know you have to hold it up if this thing is just sitting here by itself got the emergency brake on it's not going to go anywhere so number one if you were thinking that you cannot hold up a motorcycle or you have balance issues with it or maybe you have some sort of injury or disability or something that may prevent you from writing a regular motorcycle I would definitely consider checking out a can-am Spyder the stability is awesome again that's one of the key factors in this I know a difference between Spyder and a motor so let's talk about some of the features of this we're looking on the left side of the Spyder as you can see this is the ebrake right here that'll lock the rear wheel we don't see a shifter here there's no clutch here this is a semi-automatic model this Plus right here that's your up shift and you've got your downshift here when I say semi-automatic that means you have to option to downshift and I'll show an example of that later but if you're in third gear rolling up to a stop sign you don't have to downshift you can just stay on the brake slow down and the trike will do it for you the other thing is you've got no handle here no front brake this foot brake controls all three brakes and it has stability control and abs you got some nice brown bow brakes on the side here the braking in these things is absolutely phenomenal I can't overstate how great the braking is the breaking is so good on these it's almost impossible to get it to lock up like it's just I don't know I can't explain it's something that you've got to experience how awesome the braking is and why is that important it's a bigger profile than a bike so you're going to be in situations where in a motorcycle you'd be able to avoid with the spider you're gonna have to break like that there's just you don't have the option of some of the regular avoidance techniques that you do want a motorcycle so would that feel comfortable that this thing will stop when you punch the brake all right so we're sitting on this thing same buddy going configuration as a motorcycle throttle all that stuff let's uh let me put my gloves on gotta wear gloves got to be responsible so it it's got regular motorcycle control so if you're familiar with a motorcycle you're gonna be able to handle the spider and also if you had ridden a snowmobile or an ATV you'll get the handling much quicker right there if you're just coming straight over from a motorcycle so turn the key let the thing fire up got your kill switch on the side just like a regular motorcycle fire it up starts right up now every model is different this is 2013 RSO it's got the manual parking brake so you start off in neutral get things going all you got to do over here you don't even have to be on the brake but I do suggest that you do just in case you go do you want to roll anywhere hit the plus button boom you're in first that's it let off light off the foot brake here twist the throttle get going but going let off the throttle boom foot brake done so just go for a little ride and all I'm doing very gently I don't know if you guys if the camera can pick this up I'm doing this one-handed just spinning around here right hand just going now these spiders are power steering so of course and it's a lot easier when you're on the throttle to turn just go come on even though I'm only going 10 miles an hour and this same thing that can happen on motorcycles is you want to look where you're turning because if you don't these things will still go straight on you the target affiliation will still happen all right so let's talk about shifting now we can get out here on the road so this the RS spiders are a higher revving motor and it's a five-speed so you can see I won't thirty miles an hour we're still in first gear only a 5,000 rpms out of 10,000 so now if you want now if you want to go and shift let's get it up to about that hit the button boom I'm a second that's it then then just keep going I didn't let off the throttle don't hit the brakes nothing this audit just automatically shifts for you now I'm gonna slow down here all I'm doing I'm not not touching anything just slowing down got off to the side here see just downshift it for me I didn't even touch anything so again it's that easy guys I'm just cruising I'm just sitting here one-handed going 37 miles an hour just having some fun you know and that's a a difference too and something you have to be more aware of bad riding habits on a spider because believe me you can get you you can get overly comfortable whereas you would end up dumping a motorcycle but the spider will actually help you out in some instincts it's got the stability to control the traction control and things like that on it if you try to do something stupid it'll shut you down like you cannot pick up a wheel it won't flip on you it won't do anything like that so I would you want to worry about anything like that but you do still have to practice good riding habits on a spider okay and what good way you're going don't have target fixation you know be aware of your surroundings things like that and the thing that does help it is it does have a bigger footprint so I hope this helped you out a little bit gave you a little bit more a quick insight not an overly detail but just quick insight on the spiders and really how simple these things are and it's there are manual transmissions versions so there are versions you can get with a clutch and a shifter on the left foot but all spiders have the foot brake you'll never gonna find a spider that has a hand brake unless of course it was manually put in for whatever reason so any other questions
