hello welcome to fun with drilling engineering in deep drilling engineering we drill for oil and gas and that can be quite dangerous of course you must have heard of dangerous blowouts in order to avoid such blowouts each drilling rig is equipped with a so-called blow out preventer a blowout preventer is a huge valve below the rig floor with this the drilling crew can securely close the bow hole when it gets dangerous today we'll see how the blower preventer works as you see here it is built up from several modules each of these modules are called ramps i have a little model of the borehole uh built here i'll use this to demonstrate the first type of ramps which can be used to close the borehole are called blind drums you can see here the clothes on an empty well that is easy but most times during drilling there will be a drill string in hole so i've created another model which shows a hole with a drawstring in the bar hole now we use a different type of rams which can close the ball hole around the string and this type of ram this type of lock are called pipe rams you can see how they work of course a gas kick can create a blowout through the analogs and it will sneak up through the drift string and so you also have to lock up the drill string by installing a float valve at the top of it like this now what if something completely different than the drill pipe is in hole for example something that is not round or has a different shape for example i have something that is square and not round if this is in the hole how do we close the hole in the blower preventer we have special ramps called the shear arms they are so strong and powerful they can cut off everything that stands in the way just like this scissors can do it cuts off the entire pipe and the sheer arms close after cutting the pipe i have a piece of a real drill pipe that shows how the pipe looks when it has been cut just like this so with this ramps you can securely close your bun hole at any time however there is a law that states we must have a different mechanism to also close the hole this is the big part at the top here yeah that is called the annular preventer unfortunately i don't have a module to explain it now in the analog preventer there's a thick rubber ring which when activated is pressed together from the top and the bottom so that is squeezed inside until it closes everything in the hole we must always ensure that the blowout preventer is in good working condition always for all this protection to work the two push out driller has a control panel from which can operate everything here you can see so many levers and large nitrogen bottles in which the hydraulic energy is stored so if your butthole is in danger you can always safely close it if you would like to know more about this come to our lecture drilling engineering one here we look forward to have you in freiberg look off
