when you confess your faults one to another and pray for one another healing comes and that means that confession of people brings healing confession to god is where i get forgiveness of sin confession of people is where i get healing from the sins that have been done to me [Music] what's up everyone this is lisa fields the founder and president of the ju-3 project and if you've been tuning into the g3 project you know we just did a series why don't i go and you know that in that series questions were asked that we didn't answer because we wanted to listen but now we're back with our q a edition and i brought two friends along to help me answer some of those questions flame aka marcus gray also marcus garvey we have the truth aka emmanuel lambert i don't have a civil rights hero but we also have our panelists back jason crystal and vince and jason you had a wonderful question for episode one crystal what do you have for us for episode two so i know in years past when i've tried to you know tell people about jesus and all of that um i will always get asked a question that i didn't really know how to like respond to and i've encountered several people like this like those people that have been church hurt and they don't understand like why god allowed this to happen to me and they're even questioning like if god exists or not because of the situations that they've encountered whether it was with you know people in the church or a pastor or whatever so how would you all respond to someone that is truly not just oh this person hurt my feelings but like a deep deep heart yeah well one i mean i can relate just in terms of my own church hurt trauma it sort of still sits with me even though i've sort of dealt with it and moved past it it's still aspects of it that frightened me you know in my in my experience so one i would just affirm that hurt right i would affirm that it's real that unfortunately um the church is a place that carries um a lot of hypocrisy it seems to be this central focus even in i think of second thessalonians it talks about the man of lawlessness taken throne in god's house so there's this unique spiritual attack on the church right um i think of matthew 13 where jesus talks about the wheat growing up with the tear so jesus already so it explains in this sort of cluster of people they're going to be good guys and bad guys and there's going to be this attempt from you know god's enemy to distort god's truth to influence people in leadership to hurt people on the ground some will do it intentionally some will do it unintentionally but nonetheless the hurt is still real um but it depends on what the hurt is too because sometimes you need to call it out and ex and and expose it right you need to confront those leaders that could be through the law that could be through the the governmental system of that local church because some people are predators and they need to be exposed and dealt with and a lot of times that accountability is missing and it goes untouched unspoken of and those people have to carry that in themselves and then there's so much hush hush the church functions normally but that person is crushed and out of questioning god you know but i heard somebody say that you shouldn't judge a system on the basis of its abuse but on the basis of its founder right so when things are really turbulent because of your experience you know you try to go to that place in yourself and in community where you can realize jesus wouldn't have done this though jesus is gentle he's kind he's patient he's nurturing um so when people that bear his name contradict him lord give me the grace to hold on to his reality and separate it from you know my experience so in short that would be a good place to start just trying to keep this keep it short but that's such a deep question so yeah it breaks my heart to hear that guys and i would add just just uh to what he said listening um like i did in the first um episodes with you all because people have to get it out of them and oftentimes they haven't been allowed to get it out and it's when they are getting it getting it out that the healing comes and there are so many things that i've been healed from just by being able to tell a fellow believer or someone else this happened and that's true scripture when you confess your faults one to another and pray for one another healing comes and that means that confession of people brings healing confession to god is where i get forgiveness of sin confession of people is where i get healing from the sins that have been done to me and so i think that's that's one of the most helpful things in navigating that one thing i would add to that as well is without rushing that process but whenever they get to that point where they're ready for this part of it i think just a reminder to not throw the baby out with the bath water because you can literally to flames point about systems you can almost throw away every system that's supposed to represent something good in your life you know whether whether it be the governmental systems or you know law enforcement or you know i mean we know there's a i mean as particularly um as people of color and our some of our lived experiences tell us give us a a radically um different type of uh relationship with police officers yeah these are people that are supposed to be here to protect and service i think it's very similar just in terms of my expectation is that you're you are to be one way but it turns out that you actually are the opposite and i think um but what we but our takeaway is not throw the law away the our take away is not now for some it is like if you listen to hip-hop you know is f the cops that's the police you know um that there's a lot of that the spirit of that exists within the hip-hop culture but by and large even the people who see the corruption within our systems are still when this when when the when the rubber meets the road and it's going down and you hear somebody downstairs some kind of intruder you press it nine one one and you hoping for the best you just got you just hoping you get the right cops the point though is that it is important to not throw the baby out with the bathwater right it is important for us to get to a place again to not rush her i don't know if it's his or her him or her but to not rush their process but once they get to a point where they're open to this part of it i think it's important to remind them you know what not all i mean it's the same fight we're fighting every day not all of us i know they stole your pocketbook but we not all like that i know they said but we not all even police officers are like please we're not all they're out there jumping rope in the hood you know what i'm saying like they wanna they're going above and beyond to make an exaggerated effort to prove we are who you think we're supposed to be and i think that the same is true for the church there are still healthy churches you know the the chur the church is does have a mixed record it does have an ambivalent history we are the you know um you know propagators of you know religious freedom but we are also you know you know the uh that's what i'm looking for we also have led the charge in systemic oppression you know that but but we're both we're not just well it's not the total sum of who we one thing or the other is not the total sum of who we are so i do think when they get to that place just reminding them there are some healthy churches out there there are some really good pastors out there and i would always try to say too that a pastor or an evangelist is god's mouthpiece and it's yes like they should be a representation of who jesus is but jesus is perfect and we're not and that's not an excuse for them to behave in any type of way that has hurt someone else but it's still kind of having that remembering their humanity and then also as a preacher as evangelist like knowing like you are now at the on a pedestal because you have decided to take on this responsibility so clean out your own closet before you can step up in front of a congregation and lead them yeah absolutely that accountability needs to be there yeah we are dropping the ball as leaders you know we are dropping the ball in a lot of ways and some not all but so and we should challenge those to come back and make it right too so the abusers that's hearing this should say you know what let me go and make it right that abuse calls to that person so let's also put the pressure in that direction as well you've been that's good it's just a lot but that's awesome he's about to say something ask a question um so i a lot of the context and what you guys are speaking of if you're identifying the church the church the church i think the church is not flawed and i'm talking i like the concept of church is of god right i feel like jesus is is the depiction of church so that is why i would say it's not i think it's the people within the church right that are i wouldn't and i'm talking about within the building the structure the concept of what we have made church to be i think that ultimately we won't ever come into a situation where someone isn't hurt because when there's one side there has to be another in order for a balance to exist in order for there to be and just like you said in matthew like i mean that's just i don't want to say it i don't say it is what it is but it is the nature um because that would be insensitive for me to say it in that fashion but what i can say is is that not everybody is this way and to move in a way that allows you you to build and grow and love again and i think that's important just and being able to express yourself helps you heal it bonds positive moments i love i love that conversation and i'm i'm glad we're able to have that and that's been episode two of why don't i go q a edition stay tuned for episode three you don't want to miss it look forward to seeing you next week god bless [Music] that's what the average pastor is dealing with and many of them crumble under the pressure of it all right and they're like man i can't give any more and then yeah they burn out or they they have health issues behind that and so i think we see these mega church pastors and think that's the pastor but the average pastor is like i'm barely holding on and if you don't pay people in this culture they ain't helping you and if you barely had the money to pay yourself then you don't have any help and so i think we have to think through where the majority of people are at and know that if something flips through their hand it's not be because they're trying to hurt you or be predatory it's just because they have so much in their hands that something slips
