How Disclosure Makes A Remix/Edit (Stuck? Just copy these easy steps...)

[Music] it's prince but i feel like i could do a good job at bringing it back to life first i'll drag this into ableton and just see where we're at and i'll give it a quick mix because it doesn't sound good let's be honest it needs some love um when i'm approaching a track like this i like to sort of warp it in ableton i just think the algorithms are really good [Music] crazy so yeah i'm not going to use all of it but i think there's enough gems in here yeah i'm worried it's not going to be good enough quality but whatever [Music] that's just going to work so well i think once we get a live [Music] sick prince hey oh nice little rainbow there and you'll see the audio come up here [Music] yeah it sounds bad so let's see if we can heal it a little bit uh this is actually my first youtube rip tune i think we'll start with some eq so we got not a lot going on up here [Music] just digital hiss and all right so this is the kind of tune yeah that would benefit a lot from soos this needs it those vocals are cutting through really harsh so here's what we're taking out all of those horrible sounds [Music] i'm not gonna worry about you know we're missing so much top end because it's off youtube i'm gonna put all that back in with high hats and shakers and stuff so i think in the mix it should be fun [Music] nice i mean not that nice it's still uh still youtube rip let's try a bit of inflator so that's without and i'll put it in [Music] yeah cool i'll just try the gem dopamine see if it brings out any highs [Music] yeah that's better cool let's try sending us some chorus bit wider roto cab might be good definitely lift it up a little bit this is how you save a bad sounding mix guys um we could do a bit of saturation the fabfilter saturn is a good place if you want to add some shine without using eq um yeah i really like the clean tube setting that boosts a lot of highs definitely helping okay i think we're in all right place to start writing to that so this is this is supposed to be a side chain with the kick [Music] so i'm using big kick for these kick drums it's like a kink kick synthesizer yeah you can do stuff like this [Music] nice me me that was a fun little jam i didn't actually record any of that i was just having fun sometimes i like to just jam out on the 808 and then feel my way through it and then you know i'll know if an edit is possible i think this one is possible let's see if we can get a little structure going [Music] so i'm just panning that capacitor super left and right so this is what it's like without and with it just basically delays one of the speakers sound is sick it's so fast but i'm i'm in high energy crew big tree energy everyone jeez it's a nice little trick for you there guys with your 909 hats i got on the volume envelope hold all the way up from these two all the way down and it means as long as you hold the key the hat will sound and if you let go of the key it'll be short so you can do this really cool like i want that hat to be as filthy as possible get a little shaker i need to dirty that up but that's kind of sounding good so this is the kind of thing i'd like to do just for fun you know i don't know what this would be for been doing this for 10 years now so it's nice to do different stuff just for fun because if you ain't doing this for fun anymore after 10 years what are you doing always overdrive your shakers always like big time that distortion for me just reminds me of like how a shaker sounds on a seven inch record you know just breaks up always trying to emulate that sound but you just can't get it unless you're listening off a seven inch record it doesn't happen that's pretty close though that's not [Music] bad let's get some click on that kick bit of top end sick now we need some fun bits let's do some garage stuff tonight garage snares two [Music] you loki think the low end is muddy i mean 100 i haven't even mixed it in any way we'll get there guys cool i'm getting a bit uh bored of the sample looping round and round so i'm going to try adding a little filtery thing chase let me see if i can work out what key this is anyone done it already it's in the key of prince it's not even in a key really i just want a string note to be able to go in there like float above the top [Music] there's literally no point there's literally no point in me doing this howard howard needs to be here what can i do for a base thing then i could just do a tom [Music] we don't need notes screw notes little 707 tom [Music] yeah there you go so it's just going instead i think that works here we go [Music] yeah that doesn't need any more bass there's a lot of bass going on down there someone said in the chat too much bass there is no such thing i'm quite sure i've been doing this for a while there are no limits to how much bass should be applied to a song wow we are saturating let's take that down a bit yeah it does need a bit of widening right could send it to chorus or that sounds terrible on its own but in the mix it's slamming geez so fast all right bit of structure i want to play with that filter a bit more as well [Music] so [Music] that's better i don't know if it's good or not but i i definitely haven't heard anything like it before with prince anyway i want that to double [Music] tonight this bit is crazy [Music] this bit gets the uh the purple treatment it's just a bit of fun who cares just having a laugh here and like look you're when you hear the sample isolated like that as well yeah it sounds like crap but tell me this does not sound massive and clear if i had that in the club i wouldn't be going that's a youtube rip money indeed that bit is gonna be dope [Music] [Music] so guys i think i'm going to leave that like this for now structurally i think there's still lots more to explore in the sample but this is good for now all right i'll do a little bit of mastering on this well rough mix mastering [Music] i love those
