how people [Music] in The Sopranos Tony Soprano must sift through the murky Waters of the underworld as boss of a crime family a treacherous and cynical world where betrayal is right around the corner Tony faces issues from unreliable subordinates like his nephew Christopher antagonism from rival gangsters like Phil leotardo and the ever-present threat of the law looming over his head one of the men working under Tony is Vitus patafori who is made captain of the April crew after the mysterious disappearance of Ralph ciferetto veto's effort in greasing the union pays off as he ends up as Tony's highest and most valuable earner through things like no-show jobs no work jobs and blow jobs to security guards early in the morning yes though it may make you feel like you were stabbed in the heart when you heard the news but you all had to accept that Vita was not in fact a professional practical joker but a muncher of ass the news shakes The Sopranos crew and threatens to cause intense violent dysentery in the ranks with guys like Paulie and Carlo having their estimation of Tony as a boss plummet as he Dilly dallies his way around the veto issue wanting to give him a pass because of how much cash he makes him fill their title however acting boss of the much larger more powerful New York luportazi family is outraged at vetoes coming out of the closet especially since Vito is married to his cousin he considers it a personal dishonor and stain on his family and this is one of the many fractures in the relationship between him and Tony on numerous occasions Phil demands to know what's being done about veto what efforts are being made to find him after he floats away and goes into hiding veto contacts Tony and wants back in with tiny warm to the idea after Vita promises to put money in his pocket but at the last minute he changes his mind because of Phil's pressure but it's Phil and his men who get to veto first appear sharing in the motel that veto is staying in murdering him and even ramming a pool cue up his ass now there is an interesting question that comes up with this affair and which might just have a surprising answer and that is how exactly did Phil know where Vita was staying it clearly wasn't hap has a chance that they spotted him coming home that night and attacked him because they were already in the room Phil hiding in the closet for who knows how long not a peep so is it possible that someone may have squealed on veto told Phil his location it wouldn't be Tony of course as Tony was clearly upset that Phil got one over him by getting to veto first now I'll get to the interesting character who I think it may have been later but let's run through a series of possibilities of course it may simply be that the way Phil found out happened off-screen and is not relevant not important not everything has to be explained it's hardly as important as say knowing whether the pool cue of veto's ass was choked or not Philly is the boss of one of the five New York families he was looking hard for veto had 200 soldiers in his family many of whom he would have tasked with tracking down veto it was also slowly becoming more known by Jersey that Vita was back in town it stands to reason that Vita was spotted by someone Fallout 2 where he was staying and then Phil was given the heads up Phil already makes his suspicions clear to Tony saying he was seen that he's sure his wife has seen veto but she's playing innocent and the veto isn't exactly the smartest guy around dancing like the guy from The Village People in a mob connected bar or sucking off a security guard at a site where he and other Mobsters worked so veto may have made a mistake somewhere leading him to get caught maybe the phone he used was tapped after all Carlo mentioned having a detective who could help them track down veto so the mob even had cops who could assist in this search maybe when he was brazenly walking around a supermarket Someone caught a glimpse of him could it be that his wife slipped up whether intentionally or not maybe Phil asking a leading question and her indicating a location with her response maybe on some level she was deluded enough to think that Phil would actually get Vito the help he needs all the right doctor notes and she was tired wanted the drama and Trauma to end and wanted her husband home so maybe she told Phil everything she knew but this would rely on her actually knowing where Vito was which is up for debate and I don't think we get an indication that Vito actually told her Tony or anyone where he was staying it's possible one of Tony's capos sickened with how he was handling the situation got word back to someone they were close with in the lukatasi family you wouldn't put it past poorly veto wasn't the only one to put his mouth to work though Paulie used it in a very different way when letting of steam to Johnny sack The Sopranos already had to deal with the Tony B situation and the squeeze Phil leotarda put on Jersey because of all that the shooting his brother Billy whatever happened there and perhaps the guys were you know too tired to be dragged into another conflict because of Tony and his greed which was really the only reason why Tony even considered keeping Vita around so maybe Paulie Carlo one of the guys in veto's crew had a quick word with a lupitasi soldier telling them that Tony had been speaking to Vito about coming back to Jersey and that was enough for Phil to up his search and one thing led to another there's one interesting possibility a suspect who is actually the reason why I made this video and that is this guy Terry dorio a guy who is part of the Altieri crew which is now run by Hollow by the way so he may have had Carlo in his ear about keeping an eye out for veto Doria was one of the guys who Tracked Down Vito at his gumar's beach house with criminal mastermind Benny Fazio the actor getting his foot run over in real life apparently a bit of Soprano's trivia there for you and doria's Main claim to fame was the classic scene where he meets with Vito borrows money from him and later when it's confirmed that Vito is dead and Patsy says he wished he borrowed money from veto we cut to Doria with a cheeky grin to himself knowing that he borrowed 20K of veto which no one knows about and he doesn't have to pay back no principle no Vig straight up profit but perhaps this scene is a little more Sinister of course the reason why Vito is so openly letting Terry borrow money is because he's trying to win back favor in the family he's going to have to buy his way back and Terry wants to utilize the situation by taking money from a guy who he pretty much knows is a Dead Man Walking and is banking on the fact that veto isn't going to be around for much longer but what if old Terry Doria made sure that Vita wasn't going to be around much longer what if he followed veto back to where he was staying and got word back to someone he knew in the lupitarzi family so that they would take him out and it wouldn't be traced back to him or if he who just straight up told him where he was staying so Terry could pay him his Vig maybe even Carlo wasn't on it seeing as though he was in Carlos crew he told Carlo Carlo told New York and then after the deed is done Carlock and Waltz into the Bing acting all surprised and immediately saying oh it must have been Phil after all there's not much to The veto and Terry scene it pretty much exists to set up the joke later and I guess to subvert our expectations because Vito is killed in his next scene so maybe this was actually the intention of the scene and most of us didn't even pick up on it that Dorian set up Vito and his smile isn't just a cheeky nod to the 20K he got but that he manufactured the situation to make sure he wouldn't have to pay veto back I mean the guy doesn't haggle about The Vig and these guys are really tight about their money on top of that the scene is immediately followed up by this scene with Tony and Phil which starts off with the Statue of a guy with a baseball bat symbolizing Vito's death as if to say this scene is where Vito sealed his fate the fact that Vito says appreciate you coming out to see me means this was a pre-arranged meeting increasing the likelihood that there'd be a way for Terry to get some info on where Vita was staying even if it was as simple as Terry telling whoever needs to be told that he met with Vito in a store which puts veto in a vicinity we saw something similar when Tony wants information on Phil during the season 6 war and agent Harris says to him Oyster Bay Long Island and that was enough for one thing to lead to another and ending up with Phil's head squashed like a watermelon so
