Martin Mystery was the best, can't believe they skirted by with a G rating. I still remember the episode that was an homage to "The Thing".
It's weird watching this and experiencing a cultural divide that is only a few years wide. I suspect I'm something like 5 years older than the narrator. Yet even though I watched all the same time slots (The Zone after school and Saturday Morning cartoons) I have never heard of a lot of the shows he talks about. A few of them I remember, but I remember them as 'kids shows'. The hosts he talks about are 'not my hosts', I grew up with Phil and the purple blob thing on The Zone. Looks like the time period the narrator describes in nostalgia was when I was 'over' cartoons and smoking weed in highschool. It's interesting to see such a cultural divide when we can't be more than 5 years (maybe 10) different in age.
Then again, this could be me just realizing I'm 'old' and people I view as 'kids' are now old enough to experience their own versions of nostalgia. Still wierds me out when I find out someone I work with was born after Y2K.
A little on the long side, but I imagine for those eating a meal after a big day and have nothing in particular happening soon, or those currently commuting on public transport, this'll be a good watch. The former was me when I first watched it.
It's worth noting how Nitro Rad mentions the fetishism aspect of those particular moments in cartoons that could shape future interests. I know a few people that can trace certain "likes" back to that particular episode of Totally Spies. One even became an artist for the community, as it is niche - but yeah, I couldn't help how relevant that part was to my own vicarious experiences... and just in general how much TV shapes us. I'm going to be much more attentive to what my child is influenced by now, as best I can lol.
Wow class of the Titans was so good what a throwback! Totally got me into Greek mythology
i love martyn mysteries! java!
I grew up watching too much Canadian TV, but everything referenced in this video happens after I stopped watching TV entirely. It's so weird. It's vaguely familiar and nostalgic, but also alien and commercial. It feels like a parallel universe.
