Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I think the actions against nuclear plants are one of the things that have harmed the world the most.
It is good to see them mentioned in the video. If we want to cut carbon emissions completely, we will have to rely on nuclear plants. At least for now.
Per unit of energy generated, nuclear has a lower mortality rate than even hydro, solar and wind! Seems counterintuitive but the numbers and explanation is here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesconca/2012/06/10/energys-deathprint-a-price-always-paid/amp/
We have to work together to reign in our carbon output. Great Video!
Itβs interesting where the path of inaction takes us in terms of no longer having the option of easier solutions like carbon taxes. The more we delay the bigger the eventual interference in the free market is needed and the more tyrannical the limited options become.
It seems to me the status quo who are profiting off this delay are in effect guaranteeing an extreme reaction at some point or another. They will likely exit out of their investments before it happens.
I wonder if we as a society will let them be or continue to track them down and their wealth like we do now with past war criminals.
Judging by how slowly things are moving along, and the fact that many scientists thinks its already too late is almost starting to make me lose hope for the future of our climate.
A lot of people want change but that doesnt help much when the powers that be resist it. We gotta have government regulation, and even more support and pressure from people. Most people i know doesn't care much
Pipe dream. Even if ever there was the political will there is not enough raw materials like rare earth metals in America to make this possible.
Always taking the science and charts approach will turn off a lot of people that really need to understand the situation. I really wish people would start using the Carboniferous Period to tell the story of how plants and algae trapped the carbon in the air and oceans. Bacteria had not evolved to digest the newly evolved vascular cells in plants so plant matter piled up, eventually ending up as coal. The earth cooled as a result of the trapped carbon and things trucked along through evolution to result in the biosphere that supports human life today. By digging up and releasing all of this trapped carbon, we are reverting nature's work, shifting back to the biosphere in which few organisms alive today can thrive.
This approach could engage many more people. The "fear" approach doesn't work for everyone. Especially the ones that chalk everything they don't understand to GOD. Help them understand through other explanations.
We would have done it by now if we had the resources. Well, we do but it just doesnβt make sense yet.
The production of wind turbines inflict a negative energy deficit in the production of forming the metal. Yeah we are moving in the direction of renewable energy but this move takes a long time to rnd and optimize and figure out what works and what doesnβt.
This video has a lot of mistakes.
First - we are already almost at 1.5 according to IPCC.
Second, we will reach out a +5C by 2050-2060. a +3 by 2100 is already certain.
Third, you didn't mention any feedback loops.
Forth - you didn't talk how CO2 is making the siberia release even more MEthane and there is no stopping of this.
Fifth - you are talking about the renewable replacing the big oil. Do you KNOW how much metals, minerals and other rare component you would need to fuel the whole system?
Sixth - Did you talk about how we will be getting these minerals ;) Even more MINES!
seventh - Nobody has the technology to replace fossil fuels. It's the sad reality but there's no technology that will replace the cost-weight-distance of fuel in a shipping truck.
The only thing IMPORTANT that this video didn't talk is : REDUCING THE CONSUMPTION and ENERGY NEED!
