How a Southerner shed his racism

No I have a trouble I have trouble tell I have trouble telling the story [Music] as a ten-year-old I got on the bus from us everybody was mine except for one seat there were no seats and a black lady was sitting by side that seat and this lady said I'll never forget it she said honey you can sit right here she patted I said honey 20 huh it's okay you said Elaine ice at that sink like this I didn't move a muscle for three miles I got off first I went home I didn't tell my parents sunset dyed black [Music] finally I decided I'd say something said John let me ask you something how come black troops in World War two fought so miserably they surrender they didn't fight very hard he said Frank would you hear that I said my father told me that now John could have said your father's an idiot if he had said it the conversation is over I never would have gone anywhere he didn't say that he said Franklin I don't think you and I know enough about that to discuss it intelligently save my face save my father's face said it he said but let me ask you something you have anybody thought war I said yeah had two uncles one was in the Philippines one was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed he says that right he said I did too I had two uncles fight war two I said great he said you know where we eat lunch so you don't eat with me he said that's right Michael's right who thought World War two for freedom and justice and pursuit of happiness we leave we get on a bus and ride two miles out of town eat lunch cause none of the stores we shop in will let us see first I got tight and I didn't want to hear any more work he said did you go to bathroom I said yeah I'll go to the bathroom he said where'd you go I said I'd go anywhere woman he said my office and I would get on a bus we ride two miles out of town go to the bathroom because we can't go anywhere I listen for the less than the rest of three hours when I got to my dorm I lay down and cried I sobbed for three hours next day I went in to talk to the Dean a minute I said it's crazy we're studying English and math and science and right across the street over there we got people citizens we don't even know make sense [Music] but I'm gonna tell you is this white person sitting here I am absolutely certain I've been [Music]
